1.0 INTRODUCTION
Health is the level of functional or metabolic efficiency of a living organism. In
humans it is the ability of individuals or communities to adapt and self-manage when facing
physical, mental or social challenges. The World Health Organization (WHO) defined health
in its broader sense in its 1948 constitution as "a state of complete physical, mental, and
social well-being and not only the absence of disease or infirmity. However, health
awareness among Malaysian can be said as low according to the fact that Malaysia citizens
facing obesity problem especially among teenagers. According to former Ministry of Health,
Dato’ Chua Jui Meng, about 300 Malaysian facing obesity problem in 2000 and the number
increases from year to year.
There are a few factors why Malaysian facing obesity problem especially among
teenagers. Nowadays, people tend to have instant food because it reduced time and good in
taste. As for students, instant food such as nugget, sausage and instant noodles can be one of
their choices because it needs a short time to prepare it. But, as we know such instant
noodles contain high calories and fat which is not good to our body. Excessive amount of fat,
calories and sugar can lead towards obesity as well as heart problem.
Hence, in order to improve this situation, a program that can change eating habit and
routine exercise of students are relevant to be done. Align with our organization’s
philosophy, vision and mission we come out with this paperwork. This program: Burn Baby
Burn is a program that can expose university students about healthy eating habit specifically
on how to prepare healthy meal. Besides that, this program also will demonstrate to students
about new interesting step in aerobic exercise so that it can attract student to get involve in
aerobic as well as make university students more healthy and active.
Therefore, our company objective towards this program is to promote healthy lifestyle
and good eating habit to students of Universiti Teknologi Mara Shah Alam. Each module
prepared also consists of rational objective toward promoting healthy lifestyle. This program
target university students who in degree level at University Teknologi Mara Shah Alam.
2.0 RATIONALE
Since, we know students’ awareness towards healthy lifestyle is still low, therefore we
need to increase their understanding about health, diet, exercise and many more. This
program also allows the participants to have their medical check-up before the program
begins so that they can know about their current health conditions. At the end of the
program, the participants need to undergo their medical check-up again to oversee the
changes on their health condition. It is important to evaluate the effectiveness of our program
towards our participants.

it will also have an opening and a closing ceremony.
As when all the participants registered themselves, they will gather around outside of
the Dewan Agong Tunku Canselor (DATC) which is the venue of the program. Each of the
participants will be given a “Burn Baby Burn” passport. In the passport, each participant will
need to get a stamp for each of the module that we will be doing in that day. Then the
opening ceremony will start and will be officially launch by the Vice Canselor of UiTM,
Immediately after the opening ceremony finished, the first out of five of our main
modules will take place. This module we named it as “Did you know?”.The module is when
all the participants will be going through a basic series of medical check-ups. The medical
check-up will examine the current weight and height together with the BMI of the
participants. Besides that, it will also able to look at the participant’s recent level of sugar, fat
and cholesterols in their body. The results of the check-ups will be given to the participants
directly after that and it can be keep by them.
As they finished with the medical check-ups, all the participants will then be seated in
the DATC and the second module of the day will begin. The second module is a talk that will
be given by a fitness coach that we invite named Kevin Zahri. The title of his talk is
“#HealthyLifestyle” (Hashtag Healthy Lifestyle) .His session will basically introduce and
give additional knowledge to the participants regarding healthy lifestyle. Other than that, he
will also explain in general about the results of the medical check-ups that the participants did
earlier and most importantly, what are the supposed value that they should get in their results.
At the same time, he will give clarification about calories and how it affects the human body.
In his talk, he will also include videos and power point slides in order to give more
understanding to the participants. More than that, before he starts his session, our team will
distribute to the participants all the handouts provided by Kevin Zahri that were given to us
earlier (through e-mail).Before end the talk, a question and answer (Q and A) session is given
for the participants to ask any question.
Then the program will carry on with the third module. The third module is “Eat
Clean: What and How? “.It is a cooking demonstration that will be delivered by Chef
Sherson Lian .The highlight of this cooking demonstration is that it will only show to the
participants on how to “eat clean” everyday. Eat clean means that the food intakes do not
consist of any processed foods at all thus the ingredients is fresh and clean. At the same time,
the amount ingredients and flavoring agents are also being control such as salt and sugar. In
the previous module, the participants learn about calories therefore in this module, they can
learn on how to control the amount of food together with the quantity of the calories intake
for them in a day.
More than that, this session will introduce the participants how to cook for their
everyday meals without using any processed foods or flavoring agents in their cooking and
they will also get to learn the various way of cooking method that suitable for people that are
currently having a healthy lifestyle. While cooking, Chef Sherson will also explain about
nutritional value and facts in the ingredients that he chooses and their calorie values. Same as
previous module, a (Q and A) session is provided for the participants to ask any questions.
After the break, the participants that already in their sport attire will continue with the
fourth module of the day. The module we call as “Move It to Burn It”. Before the module
begin, the participants will be separated according to the gender and the male will be
positioned at the front area while the female will be at the back area. The instructor is from
our company. They are professionally trained aerobic instructor. Before the activity begin, all
the participants will do a warm up involving all body parts in order to avoid any injuries or
muscle cramps during the activity being done. In this module, they will experienced
themselves and at the same time learn new exercise routines that they can do by themselves
later when they go back home. The instructor will demonstrate to the participants a variety of
aerobic dance routines or nowadays is called as Zumba. Zumba is actually sequence of
workout routines or can be consider as dance routine that will be done together with an
arrangement or combination of diverse music elements. In the middle of the activity, the
participants will be given several short breaks for them to catch their breath and stabilize their
heartbeat. As for precautionary reasons, we positioned the medical team as standby around
the activity area and two ambulances are standby outside of the DATC.
As when they finish with the fourth module, they will directly continue with the fifth
which is the last module of the day which we named it as “The number is your beginning
to...” . This module is actually the second series of medical check-up that will be experienced
by the entire participants of the day. The things that will be examined are the same as the first
medical check-up. From the results, we can see at least there will be a little difference in the
value of their medical check-up results. The participants can see the differences by their own
and from that they can be motivate and they will encourage to begin new way of living which
is the healthy lifestyle.
Come to the end of the program, a simple closing and prize giving ceremony will be
done. All of the participants that manage to get all stamps in their “Burn Baby Burn” passport
will get their prize. This also show that the participant presence or take part in the entire
module that being done. In addition, at end of every module, an evaluation form based on the
module will be given to each participant in order for them to evaluate the module and the
program together.
3.7 METHODOLOGY
The methods that will be use throughout the program are giving the “Burn Baby
Burn” passport, medical checkups, talks, cooking demonstration and exercise among the
participants. In the introduction part, we will give the “Burn Baby Burn” passport to the
participants and in conclusion we will use the second series medical checkup as same as the
first medical checkup. For further information, you can refer Appendix V that stated the
modules and the person in charge for each module.
For the first things in our program, we will give the participant “Burn Baby Burn”
passport. They need to get the stamp for each of the module that we will be doing in that day.
Then in our first module that is “Did you know?”, we will divide the participants into five
groups. Each group, we will be provided a nurse to make a medical checkup for each
participant. So in one group there will about 50 members with one nurse to make a medical
checkup to them. Next for the second module that is talk that we called as
“#HealthyLifestyle” (Hashtag Healthy Lifestyle), we have invite the fitness coach named
Kevin Zahri. Kevin Zahri will give the additional and precious knowledge to the participants
about healthy lifestyle. Before the fitness coach that we invite starts his session, we will
distribute the handouts provided by Kevin Zahri to all the participants. The participants also
can ask the questions to Kevin Zahri about the things that they curious to know about the
healthy lifestyle during question and answer (Q and A) session.
The method that we will use in next module that is “Eat Clean: What and How?” is
cooking demonstration. The cooking demonstration will be demonstrated by Chef Sherson
Lian. In this demonstration, Chef Sherson Lian will be introduced the participants on how to
cook the everyday meals that health without using any flavoring agents and instant food. She
also teaches the variety way of cooking method that suitable for person having a healthy
lifestyle. Same with other module, a question and answer (Q&A) session will be provided
for those participants that want to ask any questions. The next module is “Move It to Burn
It”.The method that we use is exercises between the participant. This module will be
conducted by our professionally trained aerobic instructors. Firstly, we divide the participants
according to the gender. The male will be positioned at the front area while the female at the
back area. To avoid the muscle cramps among the participants, all the participants will do a
warm up involving all body parts. Then the instructor will demonstrated a variety of aerobic
dance routines or in other name called as Zumba. There are five types of Zumba that the
participants will be done. They are Kpop, Malaysian Traditional, Bollywood, Pop Yeah Yeah
and yoga. We also have positioned the medical team to standby if something happen to the
participants.
After that for the last module that we called as “The number is your beginning to...”,
we used the method of medical checkup. This is the second series of the medical checkup that
participants have to experience. We will examine the same things as the first medical
checkup. We can see at least a little difference in the value in the medical checkup results
from the results. When there are some differences in the medical checkup results, it will
motivate the participants to become healthier in the healthy lifestyle. Then lastly, we also
appreciated the participants by giving them the prize if they get all stamps in their “Burn
Baby Burn” passport. At the end of every module, we will provide the evaluation form based
on the module so that the participants can evaluate our modules and program.
3.8 EVALUATION
Evaluation of Module
The assessment for this program is the participants need to complete their “My Health
Form” provided by our company. The assessment included the changes that a participant can
achieve in terms of body weight. If the participants can achieve high reduce in body weight
after the program, the participants will be rewarded. We do not expect the participants to loss
about 2-3 kg after our program. Our objective is to see whether the participants body weight
have reduced in number although the changes are about 200-300 mg only.
This evaluation will help us to evaluate the level of achievement made by our module.
Moreover, it can show the level of attention of the participants in following the aerobic steps
in Module 4. If they manage to reduce their body weight even though in small value, it will
show that they have well participate in the program or vice versa.
Evaluation of Program
For the feedback form from the participants, it is included in the appendices. In this
feedback form, there are five questions have been prepared to be answered by the
participants. The first question is on the enthusiasm of the participants to participate in our
future program or not. The second question is to evaluate if our program has been achieved
their expectations or not. The third question is to see the willingness of the participants to
recommend our program to other persons so that we can see the level of support given by the
participants. The fourth question is to verify a satisfaction of the participants throughout the
program so that we can improve our facilities, management or content of the program if
needed. The fifth question is to recognize the participants’ opinion on how to improve our
program in future. This evaluation form will help us to identify what should we improvised
and the thing we should maintain to ensure this program can be done for others in future. To
