ABOUT THE VOCATIONAL NURSING PROGRAM

The Vocational Nursing Program at CTC is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON) and is a 12-month program preparing the graduate for the state board examination in vocational/practical nursing. If you begin in the Fall semester (August) you will graduate in August of the following year. If you begin in the Spring semester (January) you will graduate in December of the same year. There is a new 20-month program for students who wish to work and take courses in the evening and weekends. Upon successful completion, graduates receive a Certificate of Completion and are eligible to become candidates for the NCLEX-PN for licensure. The candidate who successfully passes the NCLEX-PN may practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. If you do not plan on taking the licensing exam in Texas, this program meets the requirements for taking the examination in most other states also. To become licensed in another state, the graduating student needs to contact the Board of Nursing in the state in which a licensure is desired to obtain necessary documents to be submitted. Texas is a member of the Multi-state Licensure Pact, of which 22 other states are members. For further information on this, refer to the Texas Board of Nursing website, www.bon.state.tx.us
