FEDPOLEL Becomes Institution Member of Oracle AcademyPrincipal Officers received the news that the Polytechnic had become an Institution Member of the Oracle Academy, a foremost brand in the ICT world. The Chairman of ICT Committee of the Institution, Mr. Johnson Olarewaju informed them that the status was conferred on the institution in a 5-day training workshop he attended at Baze University, Abuja between 13th and 17th May, 2019. The training workshop had been organized by the Federal Ministry of Education in partnership with Oracle Academy on Database Design & Programming with SQL. The Federal Ministry of Education had apparently collaborated with the Oracle Academy to facilitate the incorporation of oracle modules into the curriculum of tertiary institutions in the country in view of the advantages inherent in the youths acquiring proficiency in SQL, a programming language. The collaboration led to the Federal Ministry of Education and Oracle Academy signing a Memorandum of Understanding which would enable tertiary institutions in Nigeria to teach and adopt the Oracle curriculum.

This culminated in the training workshop organized for some selected tertiary institutions in the country. Federal Polytechnic, Ile Oluji, Ondo State was among the selected institutions for the workshop which was held at Baze University, Abuja. Participants were trained on database design and programming with SQL. tertiary institutions. He further explained to the Management team that Institution Membership was conferred on the Institutions of the participants at the end of the training workshop. Mr. Johnson Olarewaju presented the materials acknowledging the Institution Membership of the Polytechnic in Oracle Academy, including a plaque, a letter of membership and a flex to the Rector. Receiving the materials, the Rector said that the Management would continue to explore opportunities that would offer students trained in Federal Polytechnic, Ile Oluji advantages among their contemporaries. While noting that the membership of FEDPOLEL in Oracle Academy was an addition to its membership of Cisco Networking Academy, he enthused that certificates issued on the Oracle Academy curriculum would be additional ones to students who participated in such training. The Rector also noted that though the NBTE approved curriculum for polytechnics did not accommodate Oracle Curriculum, the institution would wish to take advantage of this opportunity which would enhance students in the employment market. He therefore advised relevant departments to explore ways of incorporating the Oracle curriculum, even if they need to introduce it as an elective course.

The high point of the event was the lecture delivered by the Guest Lecturer, Prof. Asiwaju Yemi Ogunyemi, on the topic: The Role of University of Ibadan in National Development. The Guest Lecturer, in delivering his lecture, said, experts had noted that education was a veritable tool for human development. He noted that education was the vehicle that drove national development. He said over the years the Premier University of Ibadan had produced more than two hundred and thirty-two thousand, two hundred and thirty-five (232,235) graduates of different categories. He observed that government purse could not solely cater for the needs of the University in view of its lean purse and increasing number of tertiary institutions because more Universities were being established. The Guest Lecturer thus suggested that the alumni of the University of Ibadan had to rally round to salvage the deteriorating facilities of their alma mater.

The event was capped with the bestowal of various categories of awards on many of their illustrious alumni, including the Rector, Prof. Emmanuel Adedayo Fasakin who was decorated with an Outstanding Alumnus Award.
