Many opportunities in a variety of camps for quilters, family camps, adults and youth. Information and handouts in church office.-LM

Church MouseI was a little under the weather the last month. Guess mice can get allergies just like humans, but I’m back.

WOW!!!! Something exciting happened around here after Easter service. While I was outside scoping the parking lot and playground area, I noticed some colorful plastic eggs being placed in the playground. I just got over there and the doors opened and oodles of little children and adults converged on the area. I almost got trampled. I noticed that whatever they were doing, they all seemed to be having great fun.

The Mrs. and I are expecting some little mouselings soon – I will keep you posted. The “empty nest” syndrome didn’t last very long.

MISSIONS of the Church

Global Ministries held a conference celebrating 200 Years of Methodism’s mission history.

On April 5, 1819, The Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church was formed in response to stories of the mission work of John Stewart, a freeborn African American, among the Wyandotte Native American people in Ohio. Today, 200 years later, Methodists from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean and North America work together in more than 120 countries to make disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Wow! I didn’t know that, did you?

We all have our “favorite passions”

Page 4: €¦  · Web viewThe Columbia District is hosting a fantastic event on May 18th at the old Sunnyside UMC building. Amena Brown is a compelling spoken-word performer whose work explores

My frivolous passion is earrings. Every time I go on a special trip, I buy a new pair of earrings (I have often said that earrings should come in “threes” this would make it easier to still have a pair when one is lost)

A passion I have in my “church life” is communion. Kaivon helped me in researching the sacrament. Jesus started the tradition of communion. He instructed His followers to use bread and wine to remember the sacrifice that He was going to make when He died for our sins on the cross. Jesus called Himself “the bread of life,” which means that we’re nourished by Him, we survive because of Him, and He satisfies us when everything else leaves us empty. There’s a connection between our nearness to Jesus, believing in Him, and being fulfilled by Him.

Communion uses bread as a symbol for Jesus’ body and wine as a symbol for His blood. In Pastor Brett’s presentation to the young people a few Sundays ago he talked about symbols. While visiting Italy with a tour group several years ago. I was privileged to see The Last Supper in Milan. I was disappointed that I couldn’t explore on my own. Viewing of this masterpiece was organized according to group size and time spent. Even though, I was totally captivated by Da Vinci’s portrayal of Jesus’ last supper with His fellow disciples. This beautiful painting and the experience that it represented will remain in my memory forever.

services for Children, Youth and Family; Family Resources; and Gang Intervention in San Pedro, California since 1903.

The UMW is organizing the annual Mother’s Day Tea. This event will be on Sunday, May 12 at 9:00 am. We are inviting all women to come to celebrate their mothers. Please bring your daughter and any other women in your family. We also urge you to think of inviting a friend or neighbor to celebrate with us.

The theme is being worked on and we will let you know what it is soon. You are invited to bring a special treat along with you. Becky Akins will have the sign-up sheet on May 5th.

Special offerings Many of you know that the “United Methodist Church” has special offerings throughout the year. We recently took an offering for UMCOR and this coming week we will have envelopes available for Native American Sunday with more to come. We are providing these envelopes for donations to special groups. In no way is it a requirement but, we are merely trying to support the ministries of the larger church.

TechnologyWe have finally gotten some traction to carry out improvements. Please note the new tv’s in the sanctuary. We will be exploring new ways to put them to use. These tv’s have been funded by memorial funds.
