Welcome!

This handbook is intended to clarify my philosophies, principles and describe the conditions under which I agree to provide care. Please feel free to discuss any questions or concerns that you may have at any time.

Thank you for considering my services for your child. I started this business out of my love for children and wanting to provide a safe, reliable, quality environment for your child to grow. In my home, we strive to provide the very best. Your child will be in a comfortable, stimulating, fun and educational environment in my care but most of all, he or she will have lots of fun! The children will have a semi-structured day plan that will include music, movement activities, circle time, arts, science and more. I will also provide nutritious meals and snacks while encouraging good hygiene and manners.

Through a mixture of guided and undirected play, children will have an opportunity to learn about shapes, texture, numbers, letters, and concepts such as “pretend”. These may seem like big concepts for infant and toddlers but the studies have shown that children learn all these concepts through creative play. I do not believe in pushing a child to learn at an accelerated rate and will not make any child feel pressured to achieve any developmental milestones. By providing the right kind of fun, safe environment, I believe that children will learn at their own pace.

I truly hope that your childcare experience will be a positive one. With that in mind, I make it my goal to provide your children with the best care possible and look forward to a positive provider / parent relationship.

Welcome to Tracey’s Teddy Bear Childcare

My Family and Background

I have a daughter, Hannah, and a son, Jordan who will be active in the home daycare. My daughter, Hannah helps in the daycare when needed. My husband and I have been together for 15+ years. I feel that I

am a loving and caring person and hope to bring that into my daycare atmosphere.

My Training and Experience

I have worked with children for 12 plus years. I have taken care of children in my home, as a nanny, and in a bigger childcare setting, it has been rewarding to watch children learn and grow in all these different setting. I take classes on topics related to caring for young children and I have gone back to school to get my degree in Early Childhood Education. Please feel free to ask about my training. I will share everything that I learn with the families in my program.

Pet Policy

I have three wonderful animals (1Dog and 2 Cat). All my animals are updated on all their shots and are in very good health. My dog is a sweet natured and non- aggressive dog. I will be present when the children are around any of my animals. I provide a separate area for the animals to relieve themselves.

Philosophy and Program Description

I started this business out of my love for children, to provide a safe, reliable, quality environment for children to grow in. In our home, we strive to provide the very best care for each individual child. I believe that all children are capable of learning, exploration and can do anything they set their mind to. My role is to provoke learning and stimulate children in natural ways. I develop activities for my program curriculum that focus on supporting each individual child’s age and stage of development, learning style and interests while giving them frequent hands-on experiences throughout the day. Your child will be in a comfortable, stimulating, fun and educational environment while in my care but most of all, he or she will have lots of fun! The children will have a semi-structured day that will includes music and dance activities, circle time, arts and crafts, story time and more. I will also provide

nutritious meals and snacks while encouraging good hygiene and manners.

Through a mixture of guided and undirected-play (known as “free play”), children will have an opportunity to socialize with other children, explore learning materials at their own pace and learn about concepts like colors, shapes, textures, numbers, letters, and concepts such as “pretend”. These may seem like big concepts for infants and toddlers, but studies have shown that children learn all these concepts through creative and open-ended play and interactions with adults who care for them. I do not believe in pushing a child to learn at an accelerated rate and will not make any child feel pressured to achieve any developmental milestones they are not ready for. By providing the right kind of fun safe environment, I believe that children will learn at their own pace.

Communication Plan with parents/guardians

Your involvement as a parent/guardian is critical to your child. I encourage coming into the childcare and being part of your child’s environment. If for any reason you have any questions or concerns, please contact me in person or by phone anytime. Drop off and pick up times are opportunities for us to communicate daily on anything important about your child, so that we can support each other on providing the best care for your child to thrive in.

Developmental Screening and Assessment

At enrollment, I ask all families complete an All About Me introduction sheet about your child and I will use it to learn the likes/dislikes, favorite foods, toys and books, as well as strengths and needs of your child. I also ask that all families work with me to complete an initial developmental screening tool to help me learn about your child. This is a great way for me to learn about your child’s development and find ways for me to best work with your child and them grow and keep

developing new skills. I will also conduct period observation and/or assessment of each child to track their growth and progress.

Parent Conferences

Starting in 2018, I offer 3 Parent Conferences a year: Winter (February), Summer (June) and Fall (October). I will share information about your child’s growth and development, areas of strengths and goals of growth we can have for your child that we will work on.

Activities

Most of our times is free play and I have set up my program environment to allow children to explore, learn and interact together. Studies have shown children learn and retain best when playing (playtime is learning time!). All ages of children in my care will be together. This allows younger children to learn from the older children. In addition, this allows the older children to appreciate and interact with the younger children. On occasion, age groups will be divided when it is appropriate for specific activities or to maintain a safe environment. Some of our daily activities and their benefits are listed below. We will also have circle time, art activities, and outdoor fun.

Admission Requirements and Enrollments Procedures

Introductory visit

I believe that children, providers and parents do best when everyone participates in a “get to know you” session prior to the 1st day. This helps children get used to the provider and allows parents plenty of time to ask

11

Page 12: storage.googleapis.com · Web viewThe children will have a semi-structured day plan that will include music, movement activities, circle time, arts, science and more. I will also

questions to the provider. It also helps everyone feel comfortable with the new situation. This benefits the child by allowing us to approach the 1st day with ease, helping to reduce stress for everyone. Please let me know when you would like to do the first visit.

Trial Period

Trial period is used to observe your child’s adjustment to my care and talk about your concerns. I will talk with you daily about your child’s day. Please share with me any concerns you may have. This time is to decide if my childcare is the best fit for all parties.

Transition Planning

I collaborate with families to help prepare children for Kindergarten. When a child is a year away from starting Kindergarten, I complete a Kindergarten Readiness checklist to help us see what we can do together to prepare your child for Kindergarten and I help families by letting them know of times for Kindergarten Orientations and when to sign-up for Kindergarten. If a child is moving away or going to a new program, I help the child transition by preparing them for the move to their new program and their environment.

Termination of Services

There are different reasons that I may choose to terminate childcare services (ex. non-payment of childcare fees) I have only terminated service on a family based on the recommendation of an outside professional resources or specialist. These recommendations are usually made after extensive counseling; classroom observations and parent meetings have been done. If you do decide that you no long require my services, I ask that you give me a notice of one month.

As a child care provider, I will protect children from all forms of child abuse or neglect. I will also inform my licenser. All staff or volunteers in this program, as well as my family members, are trained on prevention and reporting of child abuse and neglect.

Guidance and Discipline

I do not believe in spanking, slapping or any form of corporal punishment. This type of discipline will not be used in my home at any time for any reason. Instead, I prefer the following disciplinary method and procedures to handle dangerous or hurtful offenses:

1. Rules are 1st explained and then followed up with plenty of reminders and positive reinforcement.

2. For children ages 3 and up, redirection and positive reinforcement are the only methods of discipline that will be used when necessary. There is no “time out” chair in my house as I feel that it is humiliating to the child to be sent to a “Bad Chair.”

3 If something of a more serious nature or a persistent behavior should occur, that is of concern to me. I will need to discuss it with the parent so that we can jointly decide on a course of action that can be followed at home and in my childcare. If the problem cannot be, resolved arrangements must be made for the child to receive care elsewhere.

Non-Discrimination Statement

I do not discriminate in my enrollment, hiring practices or in the care of children because of race, color, creed, ethnicity, national origin, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, age socio-economic status,

I personally do not practice or teach any religion with the children in my care.

Care of Young Children
