Challenge and extension tasks

1. Set yourself the challenge to learn ONE NEW WORD per day for the next week. Learn what it means, use it in conversation!

2. Create a WORD WALL with post-it notes or pieces of paper/card. Banish the boring and write up the best words you can think of to describe each day as it happens…

3. Continue with one of the descriptions you did earlier for the four pictures…which one can you turn into a story?

4. Turn some of the vocabulary on these worksheets into posters that capture the essence of the word and its meaning…

For example:

Massive Petite

5. Find a picture of your favourite superhero or someone you look up to. Think of 10 words to describe them without being bland or boring!

6. Go a whole day without using the words: good, nice or okay.

Mission Impossible?!

7. Although these famous book titles are pretty amazing anyway…challenge yourself to change the underlined words but keep the same meaning

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

George’s Marvellous Medicine

The Big Friendly Giant

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Grandpa’s Great Escape

The Secret Garden

Where the Wild Things Are

Shadowy
