Week 11 News!
Wow! What a great Electronics Lab! Students were able to have hands-on learning through trial and error to make a light and buzzer work! Plus, students learned the difference between an insulator and conductor, an open and closed circuit, and a series and parallel circuit! They even walked away with an assignment (see below for ELA substitutions). Phew! Thank you to all who participated!
NEW THIS WEEK:
Character Book Dress Up Bookworms unite! On Tuesday, October 30, come on campus dressed as a favorite book character. Make sure to bring the book with you - we will be sharing/reading about our characters, as well as continuing weekly lessons. Hope to see you there! Please arrive at your scheduled f2f times. Please RSVP through email to let us know if you are attending. SNEAK PEAK: Sir Cumferance will be making an appearance!!!
Many of you are getting ready to complete your explanatory essay. Please note, grading will be based on the rubrics Mrs. Sohel provided in your binder and found on her website: ocvsreading.weebly.com.
Parents and Students, note the addition of several videos added to the Math section under the PARENT ACADEMY MINI LESSONS tab on the elementary website. Check out the other videos while you are there!
Reminder: iReady = 45 min reading + 45 min math each week (Monday-Sunday)

Share what you and your family is thankful for! On Tuesday, November 6, we will be sharing our Thankful Books. While we know families are thankful everyday for what they have, we hope you will enjoy hearing what others are thankful for. If you did not receive a Thankful Book, no problem. Have each member of your family write what they are thankful for on paper and bring it on campus to share. Please arrive at your scheduled f2f times. Regular lessons will continue, as well.
Don’t be in the dark! Come to our Flashlight Reading event on Tuesday, November 27. Bring your current reading pleasure - we have books on campus too - and read by flashlight with your classmates! Please arrive at your scheduled f2f times. Regular lessons will continue, as well.

SCIENCE SUBSTITUTIONS:
Clay vs potting soil (silt) vs sand ~ Watch the video to help understand the difference between the 3 types of soil in addition to working through the experiment with sand and potting soil (clay is not available in Florida). Use the video to help answer questions on the following lessons:

FUNDRAISING:
Clothing fundraiser ongoing. Please bring in your gently used clothing/shoes to help those less fortunate. OCVS receives money based on the weight of the clothes. Look for dropbox/bin in the pavillion by the back parking lot.
We collect Box Tops for Education. Please collect these and turn them in at the office. The collection box is on the coffee table.
We collect toner cartridges and used ink cartridges, too! Bring them to the classroom.
