Learn the rules. It's your responsibility to learn them and ensure your team has done so too. We expect players to know the rules. Captains should educate their team on the rules, where needed, so that disputes can be resolved quickly and fairly.

1.2. Variations for Indoor Leagues

1.2.1. PicksThere are no 'pick' calls, but it is considered very bad spirit to constantly pick and can be dangerous. In development games you may stop the game to explain the violation to new players.

1.2.2. Stall Count

1.2.2.1. Stall count is seven seconds.

1.2.2.2. The marker must be within 2 metres of the thrower to initiate a stall count, and must stay within that 2 metre range to continue the stall count.

1.2.2.3. A 'stall' happens if the thrower is still touching the disc at the first utterance of the word 'seven'.

1.2.2.4. A ‘stall’ results in a turnover unless contested by the thrower. A contested stall restarts at maximum 6 (i.e. "Stalling, 7")

1.2.3. Field of Play:

1.2.3.1. The field of play is a standard basketball court, as marked on the floor at the venue.

Page 3: d36m266ykvepgv.cloudfront.net€¦  · Web viewRules: Wellington Disc Sports games are played to the WFDF Rules of Ultimate 2020.Learn the rules. It's your responsibility to learn

1.2.3.2. The end zone is marked by the straight lines of basketball the key.

1.2.3.3. The perimeter lines are considered out of bounds.

1.2.3.4. The three lines marking the end zone are not part of the endzone.

1.2.3.5. The 'Brick' mark is at the centre of the court.

1.2.4. The Pull

1.2.4.1. Both teams line up at the back of the end zone for each pull.

1.2.4.2. If a pull becomes out-of-bounds without initially contacting the field of play and is not easily catchable in court, it can be played at either:

The point on the sideline where it crossed; orThe receiving team may call 'brick' or 'middle', in which case, it is put into play at the ‘Brick’ mark.

1.2.4.3. If the pull is dropped it is a turnover.

1.3. Code of Conduct Conduct/Formal Complaints:

1.3.1. “Ultimate has traditionally relied upon a spirit of sportsmanship which places the responsibility for fair play on the player. Highly competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of the bond of mutual respect between players, adherence to the agreed upon rules of the game, or the basic joy of play. Protection of these vital elements serves to eliminate adverse conduct from the ultimate field. Such actions as taunting of

Page 4: d36m266ykvepgv.cloudfront.net€¦  · Web viewRules: Wellington Disc Sports games are played to the WFDF Rules of Ultimate 2020.Learn the rules. It's your responsibility to learn

opposing players, dangerous aggression, intentional fouling, or other 'win-at-all-costs' behavior are contrary to the spirit of the game and must be avoided by all players.”Remember the Spirit of the Game.

1.3.2. Players in Wellington Disc Sports leagues are governed by the Wellington Disc Sports Code of Conduct and the Wellington Disc Sports Waiver. Both can be found at http://wellington.ultimate.org.nz/code-of-conduct.

1.3.3. Ultimate Frisbee is a self-regulating sport. Individuals must take first responsibility for their own actions. However, teams should take responsibility for ensuring that all their individual players play with good spirit and within the rules of the game.

1.3.4. In the event of minor breaches of conduct, your captain should first approach the opposition captain, who will talk to their player.

1.3.5. Spirit of the Game Stoppage

1.3.5.1. If a team’s captain, spirit captain, or a game advisor, believes that either or both teams are failing to follow the Spirit of the Game (SOTG), they may call a “Spirit of the Game Stoppage”. This can only be called:

1.3.5.1.1. After a call which stops the play or any other stoppage, prior to the disc being checked in.

1.3.5.1.2. After the start of a point and prior to the ensuing pull.

1.3.5.2. During this stoppage, neither team may engage in tactical discussions. All team members of both teams will form one “spirit

circle” in the middle of the field.

1.3.5.3. Separately from the spirit circle, the two opposing team captains and spirit captains must discuss all current issues with adherence to SOTG, determine actions to rectify those issues, and then convey the agreement to the spirit circle.

1.3.5.4. SOTG stoppages do not affect, nor are they affected by, the number of time-outs available.

1.3.5.5. Time taken for a SOTG Stoppage will be added to the game time to determine time caps for the game. The captain initiating the Stoppage will convey the start and end of the Stoppage to game officials for time-keeping purposes.

1.3.5.6. After a SOTG Stoppage called during play, players must return to the approximate positions they held prior to the SOTG Stoppage being called.

1.3.6. In the event of a serious breach of conduct, you should contact the Leagues Coordinator in the first instance.

1.3.7. Complaints should be made to the Leagues Coordinator in writing. The Leagues Coordinator will advise the Wellington Disc Sports Executive Committee of the complaint. From this point, the onus and responsibility rests with WDS to take action. WDS is able to delegate this responsibility if it feels it appropriate.

1.4. Alcohol:

1.4.1. Playing while intoxicated puts your own, your teammate’s and your opponent’s safety at risk. It will not be tolerated. Any player suspected of

Page 6: d36m266ykvepgv.cloudfront.net€¦  · Web viewRules: Wellington Disc Sports games are played to the WFDF Rules of Ultimate 2020.Learn the rules. It's your responsibility to learn

being intoxicated may be asked to leave the game. The Wellington Disc Sports executive committee reserves the right to ban individuals who have played while intoxicated. Team captains are expected to prevent their players from playing while intoxicated.

1.4.2. Alcohol is strictly prohibited at the ASB Sports Centre.

2. Administration

2.1. ResponsibilityThe administration of a team is the captain’s responsibility, however, if you wish to delegate the responsibility to a member of your team please notify the League Coordinator. This is so they can be given the right access on the Wellington Disc Sports website and also so they can be contacted for any missing results/information.

2.2. Rosters:

2.2.1. It is the captain's responsibility to ensure their team rosters are up to date. To do this, check the “Teams” page in the relevant league. Players who are registered will show up under their team name.

2.2.2. You will not be allowed to make any changes to your roster after the last week of league play before the playoff rounds

2.2.3. Players may only be on one roster per league. Note that the expectation is that all players on your roster are playing regularly for your team.

2.2.4. Pick-UpsPlease stick to your usual roster where possible. You may pick up one player, and one player only. As a courtesy, captains should notify their opposition when picking up a player.
