CEB Isaiah 50:4 The LORD God gave me an educated tongue to know
how to respond to the weary with a word that will awaken them in
the morning. God awakens my ear in the morning to listen, as
educated people do. 5 The LORD God opened my ear; I didn't rebel; I
didn't turn my back. 6 Instead, I gave my body to attackers, and my
cheeks to beard pluckers. I didn't hide my face from insults and
spitting. 7 The LORD God will help me; therefore, I haven't been
insulted. Therefore, I set my face like flint, and knew I wouldn't
be ashamed. 8 The one who will declare me innocent is near. Who
will argue with me? Let's stand up together. Who will bring
judgment against me? Let him approach me. 9 Look! the LORD God will
help me. Who will condemn me? Look, they will wear out like
clothing; the moth will eat them.

ὅτι οὐ μὴ αἰσχυνθῶ 8 ὅτι ἐγγίζει ὁ δικαιώσας με τίς ὁ κρινόμενός
μοι ἀντιστήτω μοι ἅμα καὶ τίς ὁ κρινόμενός μοι ἐγγισάτω μοι 9 ἰδοὺ

CEB Psalm 31:9 Have mercy on me, LORD, because I'm depressed. My
vision fails because of my grief, as do my spirit and my body. 10
My life is consumed with sadness; my years are consumed with
groaning. Strength fails me because of my suffering; my bones dry
up. 11 I'm a joke to all my enemies, still worse to my neighbors. I
scare my friends, and whoever sees me in the street, runs away! 12
I am forgotten, like I'm dead, completely out of mind; I am like a
piece of pottery, destroyed. 13 Yes, I've heard all the gossiping,
terror all around; so many gang up together against me, they plan
to take my life! 14 But me? I trust you, LORD! I affirm, "You are
my God." 15 My future is in your hands. Don't hand me over to my
enemies, to all who are out to get me! 16 Shine your face on your
servant; save me by your faithful love!

fails because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away. 11 Because
of all my adversaries I have become a reproach, especially to my
neighbors, and an object of dread to my acquaintances; those who
see me in the street flee from me. 12 I have been forgotten like
one who is dead; I have become like a broken vessel. 13 For I hear
the whispering of many-- terror on every side!-- as they scheme
together against me, as they plot to take my life. 14 But I trust
in you, O LORD; I say, "You are my God." 15 My times are in your
hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my
persecutors! 16 Make your face shine on your servant; save me in
your steadfast love!

plot to take my life. 14 But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, "You

of my enemies and persecutors. 16 Let your face shine upon your

CEB Philippians 2:5 Adopt the attitude that was in Christ Jesus:
6 Though he was in the form of God, he did not consider being equal
with God something to exploit. 7 But he emptied himself by taking
the form of a slave and by becoming like human beings. When he
found himself in the form of a human, 8 he humbled himself by
becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9
Therefore, God highly honored him and gave him a name above all
names, 10 so that at the name of Jesus everyone in heaven, on
earth, and under the earth might bow 11 and every tongue confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

CEB Matthew 26:14 Then one of the Twelve, who was called Judas
Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said,"What will you give
me if I turn Jesus over to you?" They paid him thirty pieces of
silver. 16 From that time on he was looking for an opportunity to
turn him in. 17 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened
Bread the disciples came to Jesus and said, "Where do you want us
to prepare for you to eat the Passover meal?" 18 He replied, "Go
into the city, to a certain man, and say, 'The teacher says, "My
time is near. I'm going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples
at your house."' 19 The disciples did just as Jesus instructed
them. They prepared the Passover. 20 That evening he took his place
at the table with the twelve disciples. 21 As they were eating he
said, "I assure you that one of you will betray me." 22 Deeply
saddened, each one said to him, "I'm not the one, am I, Lord?" 23
He replied, " The one who will betray me is the one who dips his
hand with me into this bowl. 24 The Human One goes to his death
just as it is written about him. But how terrible it is for that
person who betrays the Human One! It would have been better for him
if he had never been born." 25 Now Judas, who would betray him,
replied, "It's not me, is it, Rabbi?" Jesus answered, "You said
it." 26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke
it, and gave it to the disciples and said, "Take and eat. This is
my body." 27 He took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them,
saying, " Drink from this, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the
covenant, which is poured out for many so that their sins may be
forgiven. 29 I tell you, I won't drink wine again until that day
when I drink it in a new way with you in my Father's kingdom." 30
Then, after singing songs of praise, they went to the Mount of
Olives. 31 Then Jesus said to his disciples, " Tonight you will all
fall away because of me. This is because it is written, I will hit
the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will go off in all
directions. 32 But after I'm raised up, I'll go before you to
Galilee." 33 Peter replied, "If everyone else stumbles because of
you, I'll never stumble." 34 Jesus said to him, "I assure you that,
before the rooster crows tonight, you will deny me three times." 35
Peter said, "Even if I must die alongside you, I won't deny you."
All the disciples said the same thing. 36 Then Jesus went with his
disciples to a place called Gethsemane. He said to the disciples,
"Stay here while I go and pray over there." 37 When he took Peter
and Zebedee's two sons, he began to feel sad and anxious. 38 Then
he said to them, "I'm very sad. It's as if I'm dying. Stay here and
keep alert with me." 39 Then he went a short distance farther and
fell on his face and prayed, "My Father, if it's possible, take
this cup of suffering away from me. However--not what I want but
what you want." 40 He came back to the disciples and found them
sleeping. He said to Peter, " Couldn't you stay alert one hour with
me? 41 Stay alert and pray so that you won't give in to temptation.
The spirit is eager, but the flesh is weak." 42 A second time he
went away and prayed, "My Father, if it's not possible that this
cup be taken away unless I drink it, then let it be what you want."
43 Again he came and found them sleeping. Their eyes were heavy
with sleep. 44 But he left them and again went and prayed the same
words for the third time. 45 Then he came to his disciples and said
to them, " Will you sleep and rest all night? Look, the time has
come for the Human One to be betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46
Get up. Let's go. Look, here comes my betrayer." 47 While Jesus was
still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, came. With him was a
large crowd carrying swords and clubs. They had been sent by the
chief priests and elders of the people. 48 His betrayer had given
them a sign: "Arrest the man I kiss." 49 Just then he came to Jesus
and said, "Hello, Rabbi." Then he kissed him. 50 But Jesus said to
him, "Friend, do what you came to do." Then they came and grabbed
Jesus and arrested him. 51 One of those with Jesus reached for his
sword. Striking the high priest's slave, he cut off his ear. 52
Then Jesus said to him, " Put the sword back into its place. All
those who use the sword will die by the sword. 53 Or do you think
that I'm not able to ask my Father and he will send to me more than
twelve battle groups of angels right away? 54 But if I did that,
how would the scriptures be fulfilled that say this must happen?"
55 Then Jesus said to the crowds, " Have you come with swords and
clubs to arrest me, like a thief? Day after day, I sat in the
temple teaching, but you didn't arrest me. 56 But all this has
happened so that what the prophets said in the scriptures might be
fulfilled." Then all the disciples left Jesus and ran away. 57
Those who arrested Jesus led him to Caiaphas the high priest. The
legal experts and the elders had gathered there. 58 Peter followed
him from a distance until he came to the high priest's courtyard.
He entered that area and sat outside with the officers to see how
it would turn out. 59 The chief priests and the whole council were
looking for false testimony against Jesus so that they could put
him to death. 60 They didn't find anything they could use from the
many false witnesses who were willing to come forward. But finally
they found two 61 who said, "This man said, 'I can destroy God's
temple and rebuild it in three days.'" 62 Then the high priest
stood and said to Jesus, "Aren't you going to respond to the
testimony these people have brought against you?" 63 But Jesus was
silent. The high priest said, "By the living God, I demand that you
tell us whether you are the Christ, God's Son." 64 "You said it,"
Jesus replied. "But I say to you that from now on you'll see the
Human One sitting on the right side of the Almighty and coming on
the heavenly clouds." 65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and
said, "He's insulting God! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look,
you've heard his insult against God. 66 What do you think?" And
they answered, "He deserves to die!" 67 Then they spit in his face
and beat him. They hit him 68 and said, "Prophesy for us, Christ!
Who hit you?" 69 Meanwhile, Peter was sitting outside in the
courtyard. A servant woman came and said to him, "You were also
with Jesus the Galilean." 70 But he denied it in front of all of
them, saying, "I don't know what you are talking about." 71 When he
went over to the gate, another woman saw him and said to those who
were there, "This man was with Jesus, the man from Nazareth." 72
With a solemn pledge, he denied it again, saying, "I don't know the
man." 73 A short time later those standing there came and said to
Peter, "You must be one of them. The way you talk gives you away."
74 Then he cursed and swore, "I don't know the man!" At that very
moment the rooster crowed. 75 Peter remembered Jesus' words,
"Before the rooster crows you will deny me three times." And Peter
went out and cried uncontrollably.
27:1 Early in the morning all the chief priests and the elders
of the people reached the decision to have Jesus put to death. 2
They bound him, led him away, and turned him over to Pilate the
governor. 3 When Judas, who betrayed Jesus, saw that Jesus was
condemned to die, he felt deep regret. He returned the thirty
pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, and 4 said, "I
did wrong because I betrayed an innocent man." But they said, "What
is that to us? That's your problem." 5 Judas threw the silver
pieces into the temple and left. Then he went and hanged himself. 6
The chief priests picked up the silver pieces and said, "According
to the Law it's not right to put this money in the treasury. Since
it was used to pay for someone's life, it's unclean." 7 So they
decided to use it to buy the potter's field where strangers could
be buried. 8 That's why that field is called "Field of Blood" to
this very day. 9 This fulfilled the words of Jeremiah the prophet:
And I took the thirty pieces of silver, the price for the one whose
price had been set by some of the Israelites, 10 and I gave them
for the potter's field, as the Lord commanded me. 11 Jesus was
brought before the governor. The governor said, "Are you the king
of the Jews?" Jesus replied, "That's what you say." 12 But he
didn't answer when the chief priests and elders accused him. 13
Then Pilate said, "Don't you hear the testimony they bring against
you?" 14 But he didn't answer, not even a single word. So the
governor was greatly amazed. 15 It was customary during the
festival for the governor to release to the crowd one prisoner,
whomever they might choose. 16 At that time there was a well-known
prisoner named Jesus Barabbas. 17 When the crowd had come together,
Pilate asked them, "Whom would you like me to release to you, Jesus
Barabbas or Jesus who is called Christ?" 18 He knew that the
leaders of the people had handed him over because of jealousy. 19
While he was serving as judge, his wife sent this message to him,
"Leave that righteous man alone. I've suffered much today in a
dream because of him." 20 But the chief priests and the elders
persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and kill Jesus. 21 The
governor said, "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?"
"Barabbas," they replied. 22 Pilate said, "Then what should I do
with Jesus who is called Christ?" They all said, "Crucify him!" 23
But he said, "Why? What wrong has he done?" They shouted even
louder, "Crucify him!" 24 Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere
and that a riot was starting. So he took water and washed his hands
in front of the crowd. "I'm innocent of this man's blood," he said.
"It's your problem." 25 All the people replied, "Let his blood be
on us and on our children." 26 Then he released Barabbas to them.
He had Jesus whipped, then handed him over to be crucified. 27 The
governor's soldiers took Jesus into the governor's house, and they
gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. 28 They stripped
him and put a red military coat on him. 29 They twisted together a
crown of thorns and put it on his head. They put a stick in his
right hand. Then they bowed down in front of him and mocked him,
saying, "Hey! King of the Jews!" 30 After they spit on him, they
took the stick and struck his head again and again. 31 When they
finished mocking him, they stripped him of the military coat and
put his own clothes back on him. They led him away to crucify him.
32 As they were going out, they found Simon, a man from Cyrene.
They forced him to carry his cross. 33 When they came to a place
called Golgotha, which means Skull Place, 34 they gave Jesus wine
mixed with vinegar to drink. But after tasting it, he didn't want
to drink it. 35 After they crucified him, they divided up his
clothes among them by drawing lots. 36 They sat there, guarding
him. 37 They placed above his head the charge against him. It read,
"This is Jesus, the king of the Jews." 38 They crucified with him
two outlaws, one on his right side and one on his left. 39 Those
who were walking by insulted Jesus, shaking their heads 40 and
saying, "So you were going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in
three days, were you? Save yourself! If you are God's Son, come
down from the cross." 41 In the same way, the chief priests, along
with the legal experts and the elders, were making fun of him,
saying, 42 "He saved others, but he can't save himself. He's the
king of Israel, so let him come down from the cross now. Then we'll
believe in him. 43 He trusts in God, so let God deliver him now if
he wants to. He said, 'I'm God's Son.'" 44 The outlaws who were
crucified with him insulted him in the same way. 45 From noon until
three in the afternoon the whole earth was dark. 46 At about three
Jesus cried out with a loud shout, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani,"
which means, "My God, my God, why have you left me?" 47 After
hearing him, some standing there said, "He's calling Elijah." 48
One of them ran over, took a sponge full of vinegar, and put it on
a pole. He offered it to Jesus to drink. 49 But the rest of them
said, "Let's see if Elijah will come and save him." 50 Again Jesus
cried out with a loud shout. Then he died. 51 Look, the curtain of
the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook,
the rocks split, 52 and the bodies of many holy people who had died
were raised. 53 After Jesus' resurrection they came out of their
graves and went into the holy city where they appeared to many
people. 54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding
Jesus saw the earthquake and what had just happened, they were
filled with awe and said, "This was certainly God's Son." 55 Many
women were watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from
Galilee to serve him. 56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the
mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebedee's sons. 57
That evening a man named Joseph came. He was a rich man from
Arimathea who had become a disciple of Jesus. 58 He came to Pilate
and asked for Jesus' body. Pilate gave him permission to take it.
59 Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 and
laid it in his own new tomb, which he had carved out of the rock.
After he rolled a large stone at the door of the tomb, he went
away. 61 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting in
front of the tomb. 62 The next day, which was the day after
Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered
before Pilate. 63 They said, "Sir, we remember that while that
deceiver was still alive he said, 'After three days I will arise.'
64 Therefore, order the grave to be sealed until the third day.
Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the
people, 'He's been raised from the dead.' This last deception will
be worse than the first." 65 Pilate replied, "You have soldiers for
guard duty. Go and make it as secure as you know how." 66 Then they
went and secured the tomb by sealing the stone and posting the
guard.
ESV Matthew 26:14 Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas
Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, "What will you
give me if I deliver him over to you?" And they paid him thirty
pieces of silver. 16 And from that moment he sought an opportunity
to betray him. 17 Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread the
disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Where will you have us prepare
for you to eat the Passover?" 18 He said, "Go into the city to a
certain man and say to him, 'The Teacher says, My time is at hand.
I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.'" 19 And
the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared the
Passover. 20 When it was evening, he reclined at table with the
twelve. 21 And as they were eating, he said, "Truly, I say to you,
one of you will betray me." 22 And they were very sorrowful and
began to say to him one after another, "Is it I, Lord?" 23 He
answered, "He who has dipped his hand in the dish with me will
betray me. 24 The Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe
to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been
better for that man if he had not been born." 25 Judas, who would
betray him, answered, "Is it I, Rabbi?" He said to him, "You have
said so." 26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after
blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take,
eat; this is my body." 27 And he took a cup, and when he had given
thanks he gave it to them, saying, "Drink of it, all of you, 28 for
this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for
the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you I will not drink again of
this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you
in my Father's kingdom." 30 And when they had sung a hymn, they
went out to the Mount of Olives. 31 Then Jesus said to them, "You
will all fall away because of me this night. For it is written, 'I
will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be
scattered.' 32 But after I am raised up, I will go before you to
Galilee." 33 Peter answered him, "Though they all fall away because
of you, I will never fall away." 34 Jesus said to him, "Truly, I
tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny
me three times." 35 Peter said to him, "Even if I must die with
you, I will not deny you!" And all the disciples said the same. 36
Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said
to his disciples, "Sit here, while I go over there and pray." 37
And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to
be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, "My soul is
very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me." 39
And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying,
"My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me;
nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will." 40 And he came to
the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, "So,
could you not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray that you
may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but
the flesh is weak." 42 Again, for the second time, he went away and
prayed, "My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your
will be done." 43 And again he came and found them sleeping, for
their eyes were heavy. 44 So, leaving them again, he went away and
prayed for the third time, saying the same words again. 45 Then he
came to the disciples and said to them, "Sleep and take your rest
later on. See, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed
into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let us be going; see, my
betrayer is at hand." 47 While he was still speaking, Judas came,
one of the twelve, and with him a great crowd with swords and
clubs, from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now
the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, "The one I will kiss is
the man; seize him." 49 And he came up to Jesus at once and said,
"Greetings, Rabbi!" And he kissed him. 50 Jesus said to him,
"Friend, do what you came to do." Then they came up and laid hands
on Jesus and seized him. 51 And behold, one of those who were with
Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword and struck the
servant of the high priest and cut off his ear. 52 Then Jesus said
to him, "Put your sword back into its place. For all who take the
sword will perish by the sword. 53 Do you think that I cannot
appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve
legions of angels? 54 But how then should the Scriptures be
fulfilled, that it must be so?" 55 At that hour Jesus said to the
crowds, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and
clubs to capture me? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching,
and you did not seize me. 56 But all this has taken place that the
Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the
disciples left him and fled. 57 Then those who had seized Jesus led
him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders
had gathered. 58 And Peter was following him at a distance, as far
as the courtyard of the high priest, and going inside he sat with
the guards to see the end. 59 Now the chief priests and the whole
Council were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might
put him to death, 60 but they found none, though many false
witnesses came forward. At last two came forward 61 and said, "This
man said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to rebuild
it in three days.'" 62 And the high priest stood up and said, "Have
you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against
you?" 63 But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to
him, "I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the
Christ, the Son of God." 64 Jesus said to him, "You have said so.
But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at
the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven." 65
Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "He has uttered
blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have now heard
his blasphemy. 66 What is your judgment?" They answered, "He
deserves death." 67 Then they spit in his face and struck him. And
some slapped him, 68 saying, "Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who is it
that struck you?" 69 Now Peter was sitting outside in the
courtyard. And a servant girl came up to him and said, "You also
were with Jesus the Galilean." 70 But he denied it before them all,
saying, "I do not know what you mean." 71 And when he went out to
the entrance, another servant girl saw him, and she said to the
bystanders, "This man was with Jesus of Nazareth." 72 And again he
denied it with an oath: "I do not know the man." 73 After a little
while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, "Certainly you too
are one of them, for your accent betrays you." 74 Then he began to
invoke a curse on himself and to swear, "I do not know the man."
And immediately the rooster crowed. 75 And Peter remembered the
saying of Jesus, "Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three
times." And he went out and wept bitterly.
27:1 When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of
the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death. 2 And
they bound him and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate
the governor. 3 Then when Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was
condemned, he changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces
of silver to the chief priests and the elders, 4 saying, "I have
sinned by betraying innocent blood." They said, "What is that to
us? See to it yourself." 5 And throwing down the pieces of silver
into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself. 6 But
the chief priests, taking the pieces of silver, said, "It is not
lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is blood money." 7
So they took counsel and bought with them the potter's field as a
burial place for strangers. 8 Therefore that field has been called
the Field of Blood to this day. 9 Then was fulfilled what had been
spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, saying, "And they took the thirty
pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set by
some of the sons of Israel, 10 and they gave them for the potter's
field, as the Lord directed me." 11 Now Jesus stood before the
governor, and the governor asked him, "Are you the King of the
Jews?" Jesus said, "You have said so." 12 But when he was accused
by the chief priests and elders, he gave no answer. 13 Then Pilate
said to him, "Do you not hear how many things they testify against
you?" 14 But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge, so
that the governor was greatly amazed. 15 Now at the feast the
governor was accustomed to release for the crowd any one prisoner
whom they wanted. 16 And they had then a notorious prisoner called
Barabbas. 17 So when they had gathered, Pilate said to them, "Whom
do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called
Christ?" 18 For he knew that it was out of envy that they had
delivered him up. 19 Besides, while he was sitting on the judgment
seat, his wife sent word to him, "Have nothing to do with that
righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today in a
dream." 20 Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd
to ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus. 21 The governor again said
to them, "Which of the two do you want me to release for you?" And
they said, "Barabbas." 22 Pilate said to them, "Then what shall I
do with Jesus who is called Christ?" They all said, "Let him be
crucified!" 23 And he said, "Why, what evil has he done?" But they
shouted all the more, "Let him be crucified!" 24 So when Pilate saw
that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning,
he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, "I am
innocent of this man's blood; see to it yourselves." 25 And all the
people answered, "His blood be on us and on our children!" 26 Then
he released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered

69 Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A servant-girl
came to him and said, "You also were with Jesus the Galilean." 70
But he denied it before all of them, saying, "I do not know what
you are talking about." 71 When he went out to the porch, another
servant-girl saw him, and she said to the bystanders, "This man was
with Jesus of Nazareth." 72 Again he denied it with an oath, "I do
not know the man." 73 After a little while the bystanders came up
and said to Peter, "Certainly you are also one of them, for your
accent betrays you." 74 Then he began to curse, and he swore an
oath, "I do not know the man!" At that moment the cock crowed. 75
Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said: "Before the cock crows,
you will deny me three times." And he went out and wept
bitterly.

Messiah?" 18 For he realized that it was out of jealousy that they
had handed him over. 19 While he was sitting on the judgment seat,
his wife sent word to him, "Have nothing to do with that innocent
man, for today I have suffered a great deal because of a dream
about him." 20 Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the
crowds to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus killed. 21 The
governor again said to them, "Which of the two do you want me to
release for you?" And they said, "Barabbas." 22 Pilate said to
them, "Then what should I do with Jesus who is called the Messiah?"
All of them said, "Let him be crucified!" 23 Then he asked, "Why,
what evil has he done?" But they shouted all the more, "Let him be
crucified!" 24 So when Pilate saw that he could do nothing, but
rather that a riot was beginning, he took some water and washed his
hands before the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this man's blood;
see to it yourselves." 25 Then the people as a whole answered, "His
blood be on us and on our children!" 26 So he released Barabbas for
them; and after flogging Jesus, he handed him over to be crucified.
27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor's
headquarters, and they gathered the whole cohort around him. 28
They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and after
twisting some thorns into a crown, they put it on his head. They
put a reed in his right hand and knelt before him and mocked him,
saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!" 30 They spat on him, and took the
reed and struck him on the head. 31 After mocking him, they
stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they
led him away to crucify him. 32 As they went out, they came upon a
man from Cyrene named Simon; they compelled this man to carry his
cross. 33 And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which
means Place of a Skull), 34 they offered him wine to drink, mixed
with gall; but when he tasted it, he would not drink it. 35 And
when they had crucified him, they divided his clothes among
themselves by casting lots; 36 then they sat down there and kept
watch over him. 37 Over his head they put the charge against him,
which read, "This is Jesus, the King of the Jews." 38 Then two
bandits were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his
left. 39 Those who passed by derided him, shaking their heads 40
and saying, "You who would destroy the temple and build it in three
days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the
cross." 41 In the same way the chief priests also, along with the
scribes and elders, were mocking him, saying, 42 "He saved others;
he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down
from the cross now, and we will believe in him. 43 He trusts in
God; let God deliver him now, if he wants to; for he said, 'I am
God's Son.'" 44 The bandits who were crucified with him also
taunted him in the same way. 45 From noon on, darkness came over
the whole land until three in the afternoon. 46 And about three
o'clock Jesus cried with a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lema
sabachthani?" that is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
47 When some of the bystanders heard it, they said, "This man is
calling for Elijah." 48 At once one of them ran and got a sponge,
filled it with sour wine, put it on a stick, and gave it to him to
drink. 49 But the others said, "Wait, let us see whether Elijah
will come to save him." 50 Then Jesus cried again with a loud voice
and breathed his last. 51 At that moment the curtain of the temple
was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, and the rocks
were split. 52 The tombs also were opened, and many bodies of the
saints who had fallen asleep were raised. 53 After his resurrection
they came out of the tombs and entered the holy city and appeared
to many. 54 Now when the centurion and those with him, who were
keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place,
they were terrified and said, "Truly this man was God's Son!" 55
Many women were also there, looking on from a distance; they had
followed Jesus from Galilee and had provided for him. 56 Among them
were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and
the mother of the sons of Zebedee. 57 When it was evening, there
came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who was also a
disciple of Jesus. 58 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of
Jesus; then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. 59 So Joseph took
the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth 60 and laid it in
his own new tomb, which he had hewn in the rock. He then rolled a
great stone to the door of the tomb and went away. 61 Mary
Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the tomb.
62 The next day, that is, after the day of Preparation, the chief
priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate 63 and said, "Sir,
we remember what that impostor said while he was still alive,
'After three days I will rise again.' 64 Therefore command the tomb
to be made secure until the third day; otherwise his disciples may
go and steal him away, and tell the people, 'He has been raised
from the dead,' and the last deception would be worse than the
first." 65 Pilate said to them, "You have a guard of soldiers; go,
make it as secure as you can." 66 So they went with the guard and
made the tomb secure by sealing the stone.

ἀργύρια. 16 καὶ ἀπὸ τότε ἐζήτει εὐκαιρίαν ἵνα αὐτὸν παραδῷ. 17 Τῇ
δὲ πρώτῃ τῶν ἀζύμων προσῆλθον οἱ μαθηταὶ τῷ Ἰησοῦ λέγοντες· ποῦ
θέλεις ἑτοιμάσωμέν σοι φαγεῖν τὸ πάσχα; 18 ὁ δὲ εἶπεν· ὑπάγετε εἰς
τὴν πόλιν πρὸς τὸν δεῖνα καὶ εἴπατε αὐτῷ· ὁ διδάσκαλος λέγει· ὁ

38 τότε λέγει αὐτοῖς· περίλυπός ἐστιν ἡ ψυχή μου ἕως θανάτου·
μείνατε ὧδε καὶ γρηγορεῖτε μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ. 39 καὶ προελθὼν μικρὸν ἔπεσεν
ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ προσευχόμενος καὶ λέγων· πάτερ μου, εἰ δυνατόν
ἐστιν, παρελθάτω ἀπ᾽ ἐμοῦ τὸ ποτήριον τοῦτο· πλὴν οὐχ ὡς ἐγὼ θέλω
ἀλλ᾽ ὡς σύ. 40 καὶ ἔρχεται πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς καὶ εὑρίσκει αὐτοὺς
καθεύδοντας, καὶ λέγει τῷ Πέτρῳ· οὕτως οὐκ ἰσχύσατε μίαν ὥραν
γρηγορῆσαι μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ; 41 γρηγορεῖτε καὶ προσεύχεσθε, ἵνα μὴ

δύναται τοῦτο παρελθεῖν ἐὰν μὴ αὐτὸ πίω, γενηθήτω τὸ θέλημά σου. 43
καὶ ἐλθὼν πάλιν εὗρεν αὐτοὺς καθεύδοντας, ἦσαν γὰρ αὐτῶν οἱ
ὀφθαλμοὶ βεβαρημένοι. 44 καὶ ἀφεὶς αὐτοὺς πάλιν ἀπελθὼν προσηύξατο

πατέρα μου, καὶ παραστήσει μοι ἄρτι πλείω δώδεκα λεγιῶνας ἀγγέλων;
54 πῶς οὖν πληρωθῶσιν αἱ γραφαὶ ὅτι οὕτως δεῖ γενέσθαι; 55 Ἐν
ἐκείνῃ τῇ ὥρᾳ εἶπεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς τοῖς ὄχλοις· ὡς ἐπὶ λῃστὴν ἐξήλθατε
μετὰ μαχαιρῶν καὶ ξύλων συλλαβεῖν με; καθ᾽ ἡμέραν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ
ἐκαθεζόμην διδάσκων καὶ οὐκ ἐκρατήσατέ με. 56 τοῦτο δὲ ὅλον γέγονεν
ἵνα πληρωθῶσιν αἱ γραφαὶ τῶν προφητῶν. Τότε οἱ μαθηταὶ πάντες
ἀφέντες αὐτὸν ἔφυγον. 57 Οἱ δὲ κρατήσαντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἀπήγαγον πρὸς
Καϊάφαν τὸν ἀρχιερέα, ὅπου οἱ γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι
συνήχθησαν. 58 ὁ δὲ Πέτρος ἠκολούθει αὐτῷ ἀπὸ μακρόθεν ἕως τῆς
αὐλῆς τοῦ ἀρχιερέως καὶ εἰσελθὼν ἔσω ἐκάθητο μετὰ τῶν ὑπηρετῶν
ἰδεῖν τὸ τέλος. 59 Οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ τὸ συνέδριον ὅλον ἐζήτουν
ψευδομαρτυρίαν κατὰ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ ὅπως αὐτὸν θανατώσωσιν, 60 καὶ οὐχ
εὗρον πολλῶν προσελθόντων ψευδομαρτύρων. ὕστερον δὲ προσελθόντες
δύο 61 εἶπαν· οὗτος ἔφη· δύναμαι καταλῦσαι τὸν ναὸν τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ
διὰ τριῶν ἡμερῶν οἰκοδομῆσαι. 62 καὶ ἀναστὰς ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς εἶπεν
αὐτῷ· οὐδὲν ἀποκρίνῃ τί οὗτοί σου καταμαρτυροῦσιν; 63 ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς
ἐσιώπα. καὶ ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς εἶπεν αὐτῷ· ἐξορκίζω σε κατὰ τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ
ζῶντος ἵνα ἡμῖν εἴπῃς εἰ σὺ εἶ ὁ χριστὸς ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ. 64 λέγει
αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· σὺ εἶπας. πλὴν λέγω ὑμῖν· ἀπ᾽ ἄρτι ὄψεσθε τὸν υἱὸν
τοῦ ἀνθρώπου καθήμενον ἐκ δεξιῶν τῆς δυνάμεως καὶ ἐρχόμενον ἐπὶ τῶν
νεφελῶν τοῦ οὐρανοῦ. 65 τότε ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς διέρρηξεν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ
λέγων· ἐβλασφήμησεν· τί ἔτι χρείαν ἔχομεν μαρτύρων; ἴδε νῦν
ἠκούσατε τὴν βλασφημίαν· 66 τί ὑμῖν δοκεῖ; οἱ δὲ ἀποκριθέντες
εἶπαν· ἔνοχος θανάτου ἐστίν. 67 Τότε ἐνέπτυσαν εἰς τὸ πρόσωπον
αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκολάφισαν αὐτόν, οἱ δὲ ἐράπισαν 68 λέγοντες· προφήτευσον
ἡμῖν, χριστέ, τίς ἐστιν ὁ παίσας σε; 69 Ὁ δὲ Πέτρος ἐκάθητο ἔξω ἐν
τῇ αὐλῇ· καὶ προσῆλθεν αὐτῷ μία παιδίσκη λέγουσα· καὶ σὺ ἦσθα μετὰ
Ἰησοῦ τοῦ Γαλιλαίου. 70 ὁ δὲ ἠρνήσατο ἔμπροσθεν πάντων λέγων· οὐκ
οἶδα τί λέγεις. 71 ἐξελθόντα δὲ εἰς τὸν πυλῶνα εἶδεν αὐτὸν ἄλλη καὶ
λέγει τοῖς ἐκεῖ· οὗτος ἦν μετὰ Ἰησοῦ τοῦ Ναζωραίου. 72 καὶ πάλιν
ἠρνήσατο μετὰ ὅρκου ὅτι οὐκ οἶδα τὸν ἄνθρωπον. 73 μετὰ μικρὸν δὲ
προσελθόντες οἱ ἑστῶτες εἶπον τῷ Πέτρῳ· ἀληθῶς καὶ σὺ ἐξ αὐτῶν εἶ,
καὶ γὰρ ἡ λαλιά σου δῆλόν σε ποιεῖ. 74 τότε ἤρξατο καταθεματίζειν
καὶ ὀμνύειν ὅτι οὐκ οἶδα τὸν ἄνθρωπον. καὶ εὐθέως ἀλέκτωρ ἐφώνησεν.
75 καὶ ἐμνήσθη ὁ Πέτρος τοῦ ῥήματος Ἰησοῦ εἰρηκότος ὅτι πρὶν
ἀλέκτορα φωνῆσαι τρὶς ἀπαρνήσῃ με· καὶ ἐξελθὼν ἔξω ἔκλαυσεν
πικρῶς.
27:1 Πρωΐας δὲ γενομένης συμβούλιον ἔλαβον πάντες οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς
καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τοῦ λαοῦ κατὰ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ ὥστε θανατῶσαι αὐτόν· 2
καὶ δήσαντες αὐτὸν ἀπήγαγον καὶ παρέδωκαν Πιλάτῳ τῷ ἡγεμόνι. 3 Τότε
ἰδὼν Ἰούδας ὁ παραδιδοὺς αὐτὸν ὅτι κατεκρίθη, μεταμεληθεὶς ἔστρεψεν
τὰ τριάκοντα ἀργύρια τοῖς ἀρχιερεῦσιν καὶ πρεσβυτέροις 4 λέγων·
ἥμαρτον παραδοὺς αἷμα ἀθῷον. οἱ δὲ εἶπαν· τί πρὸς ἡμᾶς; σὺ ὄψῃ. 5
καὶ ῥίψας τὰ ἀργύρια εἰς τὸν ναὸν ἀνεχώρησεν, καὶ ἀπελθὼν ἀπήγξατο.
6 Οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς λαβόντες τὰ ἀργύρια εἶπαν· οὐκ ἔξεστιν βαλεῖν
αὐτὰ εἰς τὸν κορβανᾶν, ἐπεὶ τιμὴ αἵματός ἐστιν. 7 συμβούλιον δὲ
λαβόντες ἠγόρασαν ἐξ αὐτῶν τὸν ἀγρὸν τοῦ κεραμέως εἰς ταφὴν τοῖς
ξένοις. 8 διὸ ἐκλήθη ὁ ἀγρὸς ἐκεῖνος ἀγρὸς αἵματος ἕως τῆς σήμερον.
9 τότε ἐπληρώθη τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ Ἰερεμίου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος· καὶ
ἔλαβον τὰ τριάκοντα ἀργύρια, τὴν τιμὴν τοῦ τετιμημένου ὃν
ἐτιμήσαντο ἀπὸ υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ, 10 καὶ ἔδωκαν αὐτὰ εἰς τὸν ἀγρὸν τοῦ
κεραμέως, καθὰ συνέταξέν μοι κύριος. 11 Ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ἐστάθη
ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ ἡγεμόνος· καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτὸν ὁ ἡγεμὼν λέγων· σὺ εἶ
ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων; ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ἔφη· σὺ λέγεις. 12 καὶ ἐν τῷ
κατηγορεῖσθαι αὐτὸν ὑπὸ τῶν ἀρχιερέων καὶ πρεσβυτέρων οὐδὲν
ἀπεκρίνατο. 13 τότε λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Πιλᾶτος· οὐκ ἀκούεις πόσα σου
καταμαρτυροῦσιν; 14 καὶ οὐκ ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ πρὸς οὐδὲ ἓν ῥῆμα, ὥστε
θαυμάζειν τὸν ἡγεμόνα λίαν. 15 Κατὰ δὲ ἑορτὴν εἰώθει ὁ ἡγεμὼν
ἀπολύειν ἕνα τῷ ὄχλῳ δέσμιον ὃν ἤθελον. 16 εἶχον δὲ τότε δέσμιον
ἐπίσημον λεγόμενον [Ἰησοῦν] Βαραββᾶν. 17 συνηγμένων οὖν αὐτῶν εἶπεν
αὐτοῖς ὁ Πιλᾶτος· τίνα θέλετε ἀπολύσω ὑμῖν, [Ἰησοῦν τὸν] Βαραββᾶν ἢ
Ἰησοῦν τὸν λεγόμενον χριστόν; 18 ᾔδει γὰρ ὅτι διὰ φθόνον παρέδωκαν
αὐτόν. 19 Καθημένου δὲ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τοῦ βήματος ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς αὐτὸν
ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ λέγουσα· μηδὲν σοὶ καὶ τῷ δικαίῳ ἐκείνῳ· πολλὰ γὰρ
ἔπαθον σήμερον κατ᾽ ὄναρ δι᾽ αὐτόν. 20 Οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ
πρεσβύτεροι ἔπεισαν τοὺς ὄχλους ἵνα αἰτήσωνται τὸν Βαραββᾶν, τὸν δὲ
Ἰησοῦν ἀπολέσωσιν. 21 ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ ἡγεμὼν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· τίνα
θέλετε ἀπὸ τῶν δύο ἀπολύσω ὑμῖν; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν· τὸν Βαραββᾶν. 22
λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ Πιλᾶτος· τί οὖν ποιήσω Ἰησοῦν τὸν λεγόμενον χριστόν;
λέγουσιν πάντες· σταυρωθήτω. 23 ὁ δὲ ἔφη· τί γὰρ κακὸν ἐποίησεν; οἱ
δὲ περισσῶς ἔκραζον λέγοντες· σταυρωθήτω. 24 ἰδὼν δὲ ὁ Πιλᾶτος ὅτι
οὐδὲν ὠφελεῖ ἀλλὰ μᾶλλον θόρυβος γίνεται, λαβὼν ὕδωρ ἀπενίψατο τὰς
χεῖρας ἀπέναντι τοῦ ὄχλου λέγων· ἀθῷός εἰμι ἀπὸ τοῦ αἵματος τούτου·
ὑμεῖς ὄψεσθε. 25 καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς πᾶς ὁ λαὸς εἶπεν· τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐφ᾽
ἡμᾶς καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ τέκνα ἡμῶν. 26 τότε ἀπέλυσεν αὐτοῖς τὸν Βαραββᾶν,
τὸν δὲ Ἰησοῦν φραγελλώσας παρέδωκεν ἵνα σταυρωθῇ. 27 Τότε οἱ
στρατιῶται τοῦ ἡγεμόνος παραλαβόντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν εἰς τὸ πραιτώριον
συνήγαγον ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν ὅλην τὴν σπεῖραν. 28 καὶ ἐκδύσαντες αὐτὸν
χλαμύδα κοκκίνην περιέθηκαν αὐτῷ, 29 καὶ πλέξαντες στέφανον ἐξ
ἀκανθῶν ἐπέθηκαν ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ καὶ κάλαμον ἐν τῇ δεξιᾷ
αὐτοῦ, καὶ γονυπετήσαντες ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ ἐνέπαιξαν αὐτῷ λέγοντες·
χαῖρε, βασιλεῦ τῶν Ἰουδαίων, 30 καὶ ἐμπτύσαντες εἰς αὐτὸν ἔλαβον
τὸν κάλαμον καὶ ἔτυπτον εἰς τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ. 31 καὶ ὅτε ἐνέπαιξαν
αὐτῷ, ἐξέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὴν χλαμύδα καὶ ἐνέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ
καὶ ἀπήγαγον αὐτὸν εἰς τὸ σταυρῶσαι. 32 Ἐξερχόμενοι δὲ εὗρον
ἄνθρωπον Κυρηναῖον ὀνόματι Σίμωνα, τοῦτον ἠγγάρευσαν ἵνα ἄρῃ τὸν
σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ. 33 Καὶ ἐλθόντες εἰς τόπον λεγόμενον Γολγοθᾶ, ὅ ἐστιν
Κρανίου Τόπος λεγόμενος, 34 ἔδωκαν αὐτῷ πιεῖν οἶνον μετὰ χολῆς
μεμιγμένον· καὶ γευσάμενος οὐκ ἠθέλησεν πιεῖν. 35 Σταυρώσαντες δὲ
αὐτὸν διεμερίσαντο τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ βάλλοντες κλῆρον, 36 καὶ
καθήμενοι ἐτήρουν αὐτὸν ἐκεῖ. 37 Καὶ ἐπέθηκαν ἐπάνω τῆς κεφαλῆς
αὐτοῦ τὴν αἰτίαν αὐτοῦ γεγραμμένην· οὗτός ἐστιν Ἰησοῦς ὁ βασιλεὺς
τῶν Ἰουδαίων. 38 Τότε σταυροῦνται σὺν αὐτῷ δύο λῃσταί, εἷς ἐκ
δεξιῶν καὶ εἷς ἐξ εὐωνύμων. 39 Οἱ δὲ παραπορευόμενοι ἐβλασφήμουν
αὐτὸν κινοῦντες τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶν 40 καὶ λέγοντες· ὁ καταλύων τὸν
ναὸν καὶ ἐν τρισὶν ἡμέραις οἰκοδομῶν, σῶσον σεαυτόν, εἰ υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ
θεοῦ, [καὶ] κατάβηθι ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ. 41 ὁμοίως καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς
ἐμπαίζοντες μετὰ τῶν γραμματέων καὶ πρεσβυτέρων ἔλεγον· 42 ἄλλους
ἔσωσεν, ἑαυτὸν οὐ δύναται σῶσαι· βασιλεὺς Ἰσραήλ ἐστιν, καταβάτω
νῦν ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ καὶ πιστεύσομεν ἐπ᾽ αὐτόν. 43 πέποιθεν ἐπὶ τὸν
θεόν, ῥυσάσθω νῦν εἰ θέλει αὐτόν· εἶπεν γὰρ ὅτι θεοῦ εἰμι υἱός. 44
Τὸ δ᾽ αὐτὸ καὶ οἱ λῃσταὶ οἱ συσταυρωθέντες σὺν αὐτῷ ὠνείδιζον
αὐτόν. 45 Ἀπὸ δὲ ἕκτης ὥρας σκότος ἐγένετο ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ἕως
ὥρας ἐνάτης. 46 περὶ δὲ τὴν ἐνάτην ὥραν ἀνεβόησεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς φωνῇ
μεγάλῃ λέγων· ηλι ηλι λεμα σαβαχθανι; τοῦτ᾽ ἔστιν· Θεέ μου θεέ μου,
ἱνατί με ἐγκατέλιπες; 47 τινὲς δὲ τῶν ἐκεῖ ἑστηκότων ἀκούσαντες
ἔλεγον ὅτι Ἠλίαν φωνεῖ οὗτος. 48 καὶ εὐθέως δραμὼν εἷς ἐξ αὐτῶν καὶ
λαβὼν σπόγγον πλήσας τε ὄξους καὶ περιθεὶς καλάμῳ ἐπότιζεν αὐτόν.
49 οἱ δὲ λοιποὶ ἔλεγον· ἄφες ἴδωμεν εἰ ἔρχεται Ἠλίας σώσων αὐτόν.
50 ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς πάλιν κράξας φωνῇ μεγάλῃ ἀφῆκεν τὸ πνεῦμα. 51 Καὶ
ἰδοὺ τὸ καταπέτασμα τοῦ ναοῦ ἐσχίσθη ἀπ᾽ ἄνωθεν ἕως κάτω εἰς δύο
καὶ ἡ γῆ ἐσείσθη καὶ αἱ πέτραι ἐσχίσθησαν, 52 καὶ τὰ μνημεῖα
ἀνεῴχθησαν καὶ πολλὰ σώματα τῶν κεκοιμημένων ἁγίων ἠγέρθησαν, 53
καὶ ἐξελθόντες ἐκ τῶν μνημείων μετὰ τὴν ἔγερσιν αὐτοῦ εἰσῆλθον εἰς
τὴν ἁγίαν πόλιν καὶ ἐνεφανίσθησαν πολλοῖς. 54 Ὁ δὲ ἑκατόνταρχος καὶ
οἱ μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ τηροῦντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἰδόντες τὸν σεισμὸν καὶ τὰ
γενόμενα ἐφοβήθησαν σφόδρα, λέγοντες· ἀληθῶς θεοῦ υἱὸς ἦν οὗτος. 55
Ἦσαν δὲ ἐκεῖ γυναῖκες πολλαὶ ἀπὸ μακρόθεν θεωροῦσαι, αἵτινες
ἠκολούθησαν τῷ Ἰησοῦ ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας διακονοῦσαι αὐτῷ· 56 ἐν αἷς
ἦν Μαρία ἡ Μαγδαληνὴ καὶ Μαρία ἡ τοῦ Ἰακώβου καὶ Ἰωσὴφ μήτηρ καὶ ἡ
μήτηρ τῶν υἱῶν Ζεβεδαίου. 57 Ὀψίας δὲ γενομένης ἦλθεν ἄνθρωπος
πλούσιος ἀπὸ Ἁριμαθαίας, τοὔνομα Ἰωσήφ, ὃς καὶ αὐτὸς ἐμαθητεύθη τῷ
Ἰησοῦ· 58 οὗτος προσελθὼν τῷ Πιλάτῳ ᾐτήσατο τὸ σῶμα τοῦ Ἰησοῦ. τότε
ὁ Πιλᾶτος ἐκέλευσεν ἀποδοθῆναι. 59 καὶ λαβὼν τὸ σῶμα ὁ Ἰωσὴφ
ἐνετύλιξεν αὐτὸ [ἐν] σινδόνι καθαρᾷ 60 καὶ ἔθηκεν αὐτὸ ἐν τῷ καινῷ
αὐτοῦ μνημείῳ ὃ ἐλατόμησεν ἐν τῇ πέτρᾳ καὶ προσκυλίσας λίθον μέγαν
τῇ θύρᾳ τοῦ μνημείου ἀπῆλθεν. 61 Ἦν δὲ ἐκεῖ Μαριὰμ ἡ Μαγδαληνὴ καὶ
ἡ ἄλλη Μαρία καθήμεναι ἀπέναντι τοῦ τάφου. 62 Τῇ δὲ ἐπαύριον, ἥτις
ἐστὶν μετὰ τὴν παρασκευήν, συνήχθησαν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι
πρὸς Πιλᾶτον 63 λέγοντες· κύριε, ἐμνήσθημεν ὅτι ἐκεῖνος ὁ πλάνος
εἶπεν ἔτι ζῶν· μετὰ τρεῖς ἡμέρας ἐγείρομαι. 64 κέλευσον οὖν
ἀσφαλισθῆναι τὸν τάφον ἕως τῆς τρίτης ἡμέρας, μήποτε ἐλθόντες οἱ
μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ κλέψωσιν αὐτὸν καὶ εἴπωσιν τῷ λαῷ· ἠγέρθη ἀπὸ τῶν
νεκρῶν, καὶ ἔσται ἡ ἐσχάτη πλάνη χείρων τῆς πρώτης. 65 ἔφη αὐτοῖς ὁ
Πιλᾶτος· ἔχετε κουστωδίαν· ὑπάγετε ἀσφαλίσασθε ὡς οἴδατε. 66 οἱ δὲ
πορευθέντες ἠσφαλίσαντο τὸν τάφον σφραγίσαντες τὸν λίθον μετὰ τῆς
κουστωδίας.

21 καὶ ἐσθιόντων αὐτῶν εἶπεν· ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι εἷς ἐξ ὑμῶν
παραδώσει με. 22 καὶ λυπούμενοι σφόδρα ἤρξαντο λέγειν αὐτῷ εἷς
ἕκαστος· μήτι ἐγώ εἰμι, κύριε; 23 ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν· ὁ ἐμβάψας
μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ τὴν χεῖρα ἐν τῷ τρυβλίῳ οὗτός με παραδώσει. 24 ὁ μὲν υἱὸς

εἰς χωρίον λεγόμενον Γεθσημανὶ καὶ λέγει τοῖς μαθηταῖς· καθίσατε
αὐτοῦ ἕως [οὗ] ἀπελθὼν ἐκεῖ προσεύξωμαι. 37 καὶ παραλαβὼν τὸν
Πέτρον καὶ τοὺς δύο υἱοὺς Ζεβεδαίου ἤρξατο λυπεῖσθαι καὶ ἀδημονεῖν.
38 τότε λέγει αὐτοῖς· περίλυπός ἐστιν ἡ ψυχή μου ἕως θανάτου·
μείνατε ὧδε καὶ γρηγορεῖτε μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ. 39 καὶ προελθὼν μικρὸν ἔπεσεν
ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ προσευχόμενος καὶ λέγων· πάτερ μου, εἰ δυνατόν
ἐστιν, παρελθάτω ἀπ᾽ ἐμοῦ τὸ ποτήριον τοῦτο· πλὴν οὐχ ὡς ἐγὼ θέλω
ἀλλ᾽ ὡς σύ. 40 καὶ ἔρχεται πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς καὶ εὑρίσκει αὐτοὺς
καθεύδοντας, καὶ λέγει τῷ Πέτρῳ· οὕτως οὐκ ἰσχύσατε μίαν ὥραν
γρηγορῆσαι μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ; 41 γρηγορεῖτε καὶ προσεύχεσθε, ἵνα μὴ
εἰσέλθητε εἰς πειρασμόν· τὸ μὲν πνεῦμα πρόθυμον ἡ δὲ σὰρξ ἀσθενής.
42 πάλιν ἐκ δευτέρου ἀπελθὼν προσηύξατο λέγων· πάτερ μου, εἰ ο�
