Participants will work in a group to organise and deliver a CIP. Previous CIPs have included activities in a care home, gardening at a community centre and tidying the gardens of a National Trust property. Participants will be responsible for generating project ideas, planning, problem solving, delivery, debriefing and evaluation. CIPs have proven an effective model of working by:

Teaching participants’ new skills, raising self-esteem and confidence Improving involvement of participants in their communities Enhancing community’s expectations of people with a learning disability

Employability SkillsThis module will focus on developing specific employment skills and experience, delivered through group work. It will cover the following:

Work skills: Introduce participants to the skills key for successful employment e.g. time management, team work and communication

My skills: Provide participants with an understanding of the workplace and the kind of employment that may suit them e.g. work placement rights and job opportunities

Finding Work: Introduction to the main ways of finding paid employment. This will cover applying for work, job searching, CV writing and interview techniques

Supported Work PlacementEach participant will complete a placement with a local employer, lasting four weeks, at a minimum of four hours per week. Mencap staff will find placements to ensure suitability and will introduce young people to the work environment, establish their ambition, interests and any further training and support needs. They may also provide a reference to help participants to move into paid employment.

Money managementThis module will ensure participants are prepared and are able to look after their finances. The course will cover:

Assessing skills with money and what money means to them Looking at essential and non-essential spending, budgeting, and debt Exploring personal spending, bank accounts and protecting identity

Fundraising EventParticipants will work together to organise a fundraising event in their local community. The groups will manage a small budget, putting their money management skills into practice.
