CALL FOR ABSTRACTSResident Cancer and Education Submission Deadline:

Friday, July 30th, 2021 at 11:59pmDear Colleagues:

The Annual Meeting of the Kansas Chapter of the American College of Surgeons will take place Saturday, September 18th, 2021, at the Drury Plaza Hotel Broadview Wichita. Each year our meeting demonstrates continued growth and the quality of the presentation tops themselves. It goes without saying that our continued growth and success, clearly depends on you!

The program committee will accept Resident Cancer and Education abstract submissions with questions until the deadline on July 30, 2021. As in previous years, all abstracts will be considered for podium presentation format. Full oral talks will consist of an 8-minute presentation followed by 4-minutes of discussion, both timeframes subject to change.

Entries in the Commission on Cancer category should be specific to oncology and related to the mission of the Commission on Cancer: The Commission on Cancer is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care. Education submissions can be any specialty (cancer or otherwise) focusing on trainee education.

To be eligible for submission, trainees must meet ALL of the following criteria:

Medical students, residents, or fellows Research performed within the state of Kansas (cannot

be performed at an institution outside of Kansas) Enrolled in a Kansas-based training program at the

time of the presentation (may not have graduated or moved to an out of state program prior to presentation)

Guidelines for submissions:1. Work may be in basic science or clinical science. The entry should represent original work done by the trainee. The principal author of the abstract must be that individual.

2. Please ensure that the abstract identifies all authors and the institution. The abstract should be no more than one written page plus one page for charts and graphis if needed, and provide

adequate information and objective data to evaluate the abstract properly. Case reports are not eligible.

3. The abstract should be submitted electonically as a Word or PDF document. Charts and graphs must be embedded in the document.

4. Submitted work must not have been published, accepted for publication, or won previous awards. As a condition of submission, the contestant agrees to present this work on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at the Annual Meeting.

5. The winning abstract submitted for the Kansas Chapter Commission on Cancer Physician-in Training Research Paper will then be advanced to the 2021 Commission on Cancer competition. Please note while medical students may present at the local ACS KS meeting, they are not eligible for COC Awards and/or advancement to the national COC competition due to national rules.

6. Questions are to be formulated during the planning of the presentation. Each presenter should submit 2 questions in case-based format based on their abstract. Each question should have 4 possible answers. True-false responses, and responses that include “all of the above,” or “none of the above” are not permitted.

Please note: case reports and literature reviews may be submitted, although acceptance is not guaranteed, given potential time constraints.

We hope that each of you will make plans to join us in Wichita.
