Arab World in Idaho: Food, Innovation

& Culture ConferenceThe Arab World in Idaho: Food, Innovation & Culture Conference will explore the growing roots of Arab cuisine in the American high desert and the way that food — and with it culture, tradition, family and community well-being — travels and evolves across continents. The conference and cultural celebration in Boise aims to unite scholars, local Arab and international chefs, farmers, community health care practitioners and activists as well as students to examine the place of food in cultural interchange, social integration, economic growth and mental well-being with a particular focus on the refugee and immigrant community.

The conference is free and open to the public. The evening event will include a traditional Arab meal, a fashion show highlighting traditional dress, cultural dance performance and a nationally known Arab-American comedian, Dean Obeidallah. Fundraising events will benefit a local chapter of HROC: Healing and Rebuilding our Communities, an organization that seeks to rebuild community trust in the wake of traumatic violence. Given the recent tragedy at the Boise International Market, we plan to contribute some portion of the net proceeds to help with rebuilding the Market as well.
