II.Main Part

LISTENING

Teacher: Good morning, dear students. Today we start our lesson with a nice poem, which is called “Home”. Listen to it attentively.

Home

Hearing my dad on the computer. Hearing the quiet buzz of the heater.

Hearing the cars rushing past. I know I am home.

Smelling paint as I walk past the wall. Smelling the food being cooked.

I know I am home.

Touching the peach wall when I walk in. Touching my toys and start playing with them.

I know I am home.

Setting the food on the table ready to eat. Seeing the furry stairs in the corridor.

I know I am home.

Teacher:Do you understand this poem? How can you explain it?

Pupil 1: It tells us that the most beautiful place of the world is our home.

Pupil 2:Only at home we can feel safe.

READING

Teacher: Yes,you are right. We can visit any country we want, any place, but we know that only at home somebody is waiting for us. So, today we’ll speak about the place you live, about our Motherland, Ukraine. I want you to read the epigraph of our lesson. It is “ A man travels the world in search of what he needs and returns home to find it.” So, let’s look at the map of Europe and read about the geographical position of Ukraine.

Geographical location

Ukraine is situated in the central part of Eastern Europe, on the crossroads of major transportation routes from Europe to Asia and from the Scandinavian states to the Mediterranean region.

Most of Ukraine is located south-west of the Eastern European plain. Mountains occupy only 5% of Ukrainian territory: the Ukrainian Carpathian mountains in the west and the Crimean mountains in the south. The highest peak in Ukraine, Goverla Mountain (2,061 m), is situated in the Carpathians.

Ukraine borders on Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and Romania. The area of Ukraine is 603,700 sq. km.

Our country is washed by The Black Sea and The Sea of Azov.

Kyiv is a capital of Ukraine .

Roman-Kosh peak (1,545 m) is the highest mountain in Crimea.

The territory of Ukraine is mostly flat.

Other big cities are Kharkiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, lviv

Teacher: Thank you very much. You dialogues were very interesting. And now I propose you to listen a short text about Europe and watch pictures on the screen.

Ukraine is situated in the centre of Europe. The geographical center of Europe is situated in the small town of Rakhiv,in Westen Ukraine. Europe is one of the world’s seven continents. It is the world’s second smallest continent.

Europe consists of 50 states. 27 of them are member states of the European Union. Ukraine isn’t a member of European Union yet.

Teacher: I propose to you to take a ball from a box. You will see a question to this text on the ball. Your task is to answer the question.

WRITING

Teacher:At the end of the lesson I suggest a very interesting task. Ralf Waldo Emerson once said “All men are poets at heart”. Today we’ll try to be poets and we’ll write short poems in the form of “senken”. This poem consists of five lines.

Line 1: a noun

Line 2: two adjectives

Line 3: a sentence

Line 4: two ing-words

Line 5:a noun.

Write poems about our Mortherland.
