Our desired outcome is to minimise stormwater and its effects on Bendalong Boat Harbour beach and to use latest technology to achieve this. Council’s suggested options: Option 1 Divert surface water with swales to pipe end no 1 (western most pipe end currently directing water onto Boat Harbour Beach called Outlet 1 on MI Engineering’s DN 17-0120/C08 Stage 3 Layout for Council Briefing) This option removes no water from the beach – just diverts it to outlet 1 - and increases flow and velocity. Our concern about Outlet 1 is that it is in close proximity above the Aboriginal middens and early settler proposed heritage sites which we pointed out on the day and which are already affected by erosion and pedestrian traffic. Option 2 Divert surface water with swales and direct to Washerwoman’s Beach. Option 2 merely pushes water onto Washerwoman’s Beach without considering the effect of the stormwater flow. RHVA prefers Option 2 with the following inclusions: Option 2A Divert surface water with swales to pit on western side of Boat Harbour access road, then redirect pit west to retention basin above

Dear TroyIn response to your request for photos outlining stormwater effects on Bendalong Boat Harbour Beach and (RHVA) Red Head Villages Association’s preference for works to resolve the scouring on the beach please see below and attached drawings/photos.

Our desired outcome is to minimise stormwater and its effects on Bendalong Boat Harbour beach and to use latest technology to achieve this.

Council’s suggested options:Option 1Divert surface water with swales to pipe end no 1 (western most pipe end currently directing water onto Boat Harbour Beach called Outlet 1 on MI Engineering’s DN 17-0120/C08 Stage 3 Layout for Council Briefing)

This option removes no water from the beach – just diverts it to outlet 1 - and increases flow and velocity. Our concern about Outlet 1 is that it is in close proximity above the Aboriginal middens and early settler proposed heritage sites which we pointed out on the day and which are already affected by erosion and pedestrian traffic.

Option 2Divert surface water with swales and direct to Washerwoman’s Beach.Option 2 merely pushes water onto Washerwoman’s Beach without considering the effect of the stormwater flow.

RHVA prefers Option 2 with the following inclusions:Option 2ADivert surface water with swales to pit on western side of Boat Harbour access road, then redirect pit west to retention basin above Washerwoman’s Beach (similar to successful implementation at Flat Rock North Bendalong).

Surface water from Boronia Street and Red Point Road could also be captured and dealt with properly using Option 2A with the inclusion of a dish drain along Boronia Street to the pit head.

Please feel free to contact me to discuss this further

Kind regards

Note Pencil drawn Swale from Grate to the Pit Head (red arrow) RHVA suggests is decommissioned and diverted west to retention above Washerwoman’s Beach (blue arrow). Red broken line is proposed dish drain
