The Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) provides literacy resources and programming to support children at risk of growing
up with low literacy skills. To qualify for a CLiF storytelling event, you must:
Be a social service provider or community organization based in Vermont or New Hampshire that serves low-income or at-risk children from birth to age 12
At least 35% of the children you serve must come from low-income families Be able to gather at least 25 children for a storytelling event
If your organization is selected, you will receive: A Storytelling Presentation: A CLiF storyteller will attend a special event at your organization to
tell stories and talk about the joys of words, books, reading, and writing.
WITH AN OPTION FOR:
A Literacy Seminar: CLiF Executive Director Duncan McDougall will lead a 20-minute conversation with parents, caregivers, home visitors, and volunteers about the importance of literacy and the benefits of reading to children at a young age. Duncan models techniques for reading aloud and gives suggestions for age-appropriate children’s books.
If you choose to have the seminar as your sole presentation without the storytelling session we ask that you gather at least 20 adults to be eligible.
In addition to the above presentation(s) you will also receive: A Book Giveaway: Every child present will be invited to choose two books to keep from a large
selection that CLiF brings to the storytelling event. For those of you applying for a literacy seminar only, CLiF will provide books for parents to take home to their children or for home visitors to bring. The number of books is based on the number of children served.
On-site Library: A collection of new children’s books based on the needs and size of your facility to create an on-site library or supplement an existing one.
As a part of this grant you must be able to host the storytelling presentation, the literacy seminar, or both in order to receive books.
Please fill this form out to the best of your ability. Grantees will be notified of their award no later than six weeks after the most recent deadline.
