Year 3 Activities - Week Beginning 18 th May Numeracy Literacy World Around Us Other Life Skills -Learn the Story of 16 add. Write out these number bonds. Practise quick recall of number facts on Topmarks, Hit the button. -Read and solve problem sums on the worksheet below. Remember when adding two numbers, you don’t always need to carry over a ten. Remember your answers need a label, except for numbers 6 and 7. - Google BBC Bitesize, go to All Bitesize, NI KS1, Maths, Capacity. -Find three containers, predict which holds the most and the least. Check by filling and emptying. -Capacity worksheets 1- 4. -Use coins to make these amounts: 10p, 20p, 30p, 40p,50p,60p,70p,80p, 90p. Try to use the least amount of coins possible and record in your book. E.g. 20p= 10p + 10p Talk about other ways to make these amounts. Challenge: Make 40p five different ways and record. -Spellings and spelling activity. -Google: Letter writing for kids and watch a video on You tube Write a letter to someone you haven’t seen recently and that you miss, e.g. your grandparents, aunt, friend etc -Read the story about The Zoo Vet and answer the questions. Select from Bears, Tigers and Monkeys. -Add ing and ed to the end of verbs (doing words). Money challenge.Explain that every letter of the alphabet is worth money:a=1p, b=2p, and so on to z=26p.This can be displayed on paper for reference. Then write a shopping list and work out the cost of each item by adding together the values of the letters. For example: bread costs 2p+18p+5p+1p+4p=30p. eggs cost 5p + 7p + 7p + 19p = 38pThis is a good opportunity to discuss strategies for adding mentally or you could use a calculator if appropriate. What is the cheapest item they can find? What is the most expensive?
