It’s a great time to get together with family and friends while celebrating and giving thanks for everything we have. 2018 Jingle Ball

This year’s Jingle Ball concert at Madison Square Garden was probably the best one yet. Our lucky campers who attended saw a 5 hour show that featured Cardi B, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello Calvin Harris and more. This show is truly the highlight of the concert season and Camp Pennbrook’s campers were well represented. If you could not attend the concert, don’t forget to send the response card back or call to confirm that you can attend our New York Camp Reunion on January 13th at Dave and Busters Times Square!

New for Summer 2019!!!!

We always take all of your suggestions and comments into consideration. So far these are some of the new things we have.

MORE BUNK NIGHTS!! Girls you asked for it and you got it. Wednesdays will be “bunk nights” at Camp Pennbrook. This is a great chance for campers to hang, chill and catch up with their friends. It will also be a great opportunity mid week for everyone to rest more.

MORE CHOICES! We have come up with a new concept for Wednesdays at camp. Starting next summer Wednesdays will be your day. That’s right in the afternoon you are in control of your activities t. Once campers do their cardio periods of the day they will get to choose from selected activities what they want to do. This will be a great opportunity for campers to do more of the activities they enjoy as well as interacting with campers in other groups.

NEW BRUNCHES! Many of you suggested we re-look our brunch menus because they felt repetitive. We have been working with Hannah the nutritionist as well as Don at The Pennington School and we have come up with 4 new brunches. So far we are hearing: blueberry pancakes, chocolate chip waffles, cheese omelets, scrambled eggs and more!

At buffet parties:

· Take a look at all that’s available on the buffet table before making your choices.

· Don’t forget to watch your portion sizes at buffets- go for ½ plate fruit and vegetables.

· Try taking up a smaller plate this can help reduce how much you can take in one go!

· Make a decision before you start loading your plate- Choose healthy foods to fill up on, some foods to sample, and the foods you will skip.

· Try starting to fill your plate with salad and vegetables then move onto the other items available.

· Move away from the buffet table to stop nibbling while chatting to family and friends.

· Don’t skip meals before a party; ensure you have your regular meals and a snack before you go out to avoid overeating.

· Wait 10 minutes before going back to a second plate to see if you are truly still hungry.

· Bring a healthy dish with you if you are concerned about lack of healthful choices. Most hosts will appreciate the extra dish, and guests will love to try your healthy treats.

DONT FORGET beverages can contain empty calories and lots of sugar, opt for water or sugar free/diet options. One 500ml glass of full sugar coke contains 53g of sugar- that 12 ½ teaspoons of sugar in one drink!!

Holiday Recipes from Jenn!

The holidays are here and I thought id share some of my favorite recipe ideas with you all. The holidays are a tricky time but there are plenty of ways to still eat healthfully; aim to have half you plate vegetables or salad and opt for a broth based soup as a starter to help prevent overeating during the main course. The recipes below all are easy ways to add in extra fruits and vegetable servings to even the most stubborn vegetable avoider in the family! Don’t forget to check out your camp cookbooks for more holiday recipe suggestions.

Hi Girls,

How are you all doing? Can you believe it? The holidays are here already! I know the holiday season has arrived when everything pumpkin flavored starts coming into the stores. I love the holidays and all that comes with them! Remember that they are a really tricky time of year to maintain a healthful lifestyle, especially with the weather changing and having time off from school.

When you think of the holidays what’s the first thing that comes to mind? I know what I think about and that’s FOOD. The holiday period is always linked to over-indulgence and excess with all our favorite family recipes, but that doesn’t mean our healthful lifestyle has to go out the window!

Top tips for a healthy holiday season:

· Get active & create healthy family traditions! For example going for a walk to catch up with visiting family members, or suggest an outdoor family game.

· Remember you don’t have to sample everything, pace yourself and enjoy leftovers in the days after.

· Don’t rush your meal, enjoy socializing during your meals and take your time.

· Be mindful when selecting your meal- opt for white turkey meat without the skin, instead of the brown meat with the skin on it. Making mindful choices will allow you to still enjoy your holiday meal in a healthful way.

· Remember you can still have your holiday favorites but consider portion control and enjoy them in moderation.
