Light framed: Sydney uni New Law Building – this building looks light due to the ‘floating’ effect
produced by it being positioned high and the glass framing
Ferry wharf in darling harbour – made of glass framing/ fencing and steel roof that looks like its floating
Arkansas’ Thorncrown chapel ( Glass church in the woods) – this building looks like because it is made of glass and thin wood. In the making of this building the builders used materials no bigger than what two people could carry.
Heavy framed: Sydney uni Great Hall – this building looks heavy due to the sandstone frame. The
thickness of the walls and entry doors give it a ‘huge’ and ‘loaded’ effect
Auburn Gallipoli mosque – concrete frame with infill masonry exterior walls lined with travertine stone
Fisher café – this building looks heavy due to the thick timber framing enclosing the building making it look like its stuck to the ground
Both framing: Sydney uni sports aquatic centre – had brick walls that looked like it was sitting
heavily on the ground. However this contrasts the white steels on top of the building that look like its floating, making it seems light
Lizard log pavilion in Wetherill park – the timber posts that hold the roof provide the building a light effect. Also, the amphitheatre being positioned as a high platform also makes the building look as if its floating. However, the thick steel roof and thick timber flooring makes the building look heavy as if compacted on the ground.
