This includes respect for authority including but not limited to: officials, teammates, instructors, Public Safety, classmates, coaches, and all college staff. It is also important to compete under the ideals that illegal substances, alcohol, tobacco, and performance enhancing drugs are not allowable and those breaking these ideals will face penalties. It is also important to understand that violations of the Athletics Code of Conduct are treated independently from any other violations or sanctions as part of the campus community. This code is enforceable for the duration of the student-athlete’s enrollment at JCC, but not just during the season of competition. It is a privilege, not a right, to be a student-athlete at JCC.

Code of Conduct: Alcohol / Drugs:

institution regarding policies and procedures relevant to the Corona Virus Pandemic. Lack of respect for the rules will not be tolerated.

Residence Halls Conducto All activities as reports in incident reports from Public Safety and Residence Life will be subject to code

violations and penalties, REGARDLESS of the sanctions with other groups on campus. These incidents will be investigated upon receipt of the incident report and are expected to receive full cooperation and honesty by the accused.

Criminal Activityo Any student-athlete charged with a misdemeanor or felony shall be immediately suspended from their

participation pending further investigation by college officials. This includes accusations of Title IX sexual assault allegations.

Consequences of Violations: May include but are not limited to: community service, probation, suspension (practice and/or games), removal

from team permanently, and are based on the severity and prior behavior/violations. Those with multiple disciplinary sanctions (more than two) will be removed regardless of the severity of the incident.

It is the coach’s discretion to remove student-athletes from a team at any time after consultation with the Director of Athletics.

A student-athlete may challenge being removed from a team by notifying the Director of Athletics. The AD will request a conduct hearing to be organized

NJCAA Eligibility Requirements andJayhawk Eligibility Requirements

Department of Athletics Responsibility

At the beginning of each semester, personnel in the Registrar’s Office, in conjunction with the Director of Athletics, Assistant Director of athletics, and the head coach will certify that each student-athlete meets the academic standards established by the NJCAA and Jamestown Community College.

Student Requirements for Participation in NJCAA Athletics

In order to participate in an NJCAA-sanctioned sport, a student-athlete must be in good academic standing, in accordance with the rules and bylaws of the NJCAA, member region, and the individual institution. He/she must be an amateur who has not exhausted his/her eligibility and who is in good health. It is the responsibility of each student-athlete to make sure all data regarding the student’s NJCAA eligibility is submitted a minimum of two weeks before the first scrimmage or official competition. Failure to meet this timetable may result in a student-athlete being temporarily ineligible. This timeframe was selected to afford timely preparation, proofing, and submission of documents to the NJCAA.

If there is a question of eligibility for a potential student-athlete, that request for more information must be submitted in writing to the Director of Athletics and the Assistant Director of Athletics for review which includes: potential student-athlete’s name, previous school, unofficial copies of their transcripts, and if they have played an intercollegiate sport before. The athletic department will look at all information and determine the status of the potential student-athlete only after all of those materials are submitted.

Enrollment Eligibility

Entrance Eligibility: a student-athlete must have earned a high school diploma, general education diploma, or passes a state Department of Education-approved high school equivalency test.

High school graduation is documented with a final/official high school transcript which identifies the school, student, and date of graduation and has an administrative signature.

o WE CANNOT ACCEPT UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS TO SUBMIT NJCAA ELIGIBILITY. To check eligibility prior to a student-athlete enrolling at JCC, we can use that as a guide, but once they student-athlete is accepted to our school and if they want to participate intercollegiate, our admissions office needs an official copy of their transcript from any previous schools on file.

In order to be eligible to participate, a student-athlete must be enrolled full-time, which is defined as 12 or more credit hours. Full-time enrollment must be established prior to the 15th calendar day of the beginning of the regular term as listed on the College academic calendar. Full-time enrollment must be maintained throughout the semester.

Full-time Requirement: student-athletes must be enrolled in full-time status using an combination of sessions within a term, and in classes that begin BEFORE the end of the published regular season schedule of the student-athlete’s chosen sport.

Academic Progress Eligibility: the basis for NJCAA eligibility is directly related to the number of fill-time terms a student-athlete has previously attempted. A student-athlete is charged with attempting a term of full-time enrollment when they remain enrolled in full-time status beyond the 15th calendar day of the term or if they have participated in the sport.

JCC Student-Athlete Expectations

The average JCC student-athlete spends 300-plus hours each season practicing, competing, and traveling. Student-athletes must demonstrate a focused effort from the first day of the semester. The JCC Department of Athletics and it’s coaching staff require that each student-athlete subscribe to these additional expectations:

Any student-athlete who is currently enrolled in only 12 credit hours of class must meet with his/her advisor to discuss the long-term implications of this course load.

JCC student-athletes are required to notify each faculty member in advance that he/she will be absent from class to attend a NJCAA-sanctioned competition. Otherwise, each student-athlete is expected to attend every meeting of every class for which they are enrolled. Furthermore, each student-athlete is required to demonstrate understanding of any concepts missed due to an absence. Finally, no student-athlete may miss any class or lab to attend a practice.

Any additional information regarding each individual faculty member’s policy on absenteeism will likely appear on the course syllabus.

IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT AT THE START OF YOUR SEASON, WELL BEFORE CLASSES START, THAT YOU STAY FOR A MINUTE OR TWO AFTER CLASS, INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO YOUR INSTRUCTOR

AND NOTIFY WHAT TEAM YOU ARE ON, AND THEN LET THEM KNOW ANY DATES THAT MAY CONFLICT WITH CLASS TIMES.

**As an FYI, they appreciate the gesture of letting them know well in advance, but are not required to count games as an excused absence. If you know you will be missing a couple of classes on a Wednesday afternoon (for example) due to classes, you should not be missing any other classes other than those that are because of games. For any further questions, please see the Director of Athletics or Assistant Director of Athletics.**

In addition to EXCEPTIONAL communication with your instructors in regards to games, you will also be expected to attend mandatory study hall sessions in the Learning Center on campus.

Coaches will set required hours for their team each year.

Also: every 3-4 weeks, mandatory progress reports will be due to the Assistant Athletic Director. It is the student-athlete’s responsibility to make time with their instructor, and have them fill out the sheet, reporting on their status in class (attendance, participation, and grade). For mid-terms grades in each semester, the Athletic Department will run a report, notifying them of any student-athletes who are carrying a D or F in any classes. If they are, they will need to set up a meeting with the Assistant Director of Athletics, and come up with an action plan for moving forward with the rest of the semester.

FAILURE TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE LEARNING CENTER AND PROGRESS REPORTS WILL REQUIRE THE FOLLOWING:

1st offense: one-on-one meeting with the Assistant Director of Athletics 2nd offense: sit out one contest

**It is expected that these standards are kept and met throughout the entire academic year, not just while the student-athlete is in season**
