I Do: Working the List
In a minute, I’m going to ask you to “work” the list. That means:
1. Read through each word and definition quickly. Skip the examples, synonyms, and antonyms for now
2. Rank each word:
a. draw a ↑ next to a word if you know the it already
b. draw a → next to a word if you have seen it before but don’t use it
c. draw a ↓ next to a word if you have never seen it
3. Group the words that have similar meanings by drawing a - - - - - between them
4. Group the words that have similar meanings and parts of speech by drawing a _________ between them.
5. Note differences in definitions within these groupings you’ve made by circling them.
Do we need a refresher? If so, I’ll demonstrate in under 5 minutes with this sample list.

a. The “gist” of the word or its basic definition, not the exact one from the list
b. A way you’d act the word out to show what it means
