On Wednesday, May 19, our Parish Council  reviewed the current CDC and State health officials’ recommendations concerning Covid precautions. Therefore, as of this date, the following will be in effect:

1. Fully vaccinated people will no longer have to wear masks during church services and activities. Those who are not fully vaccinated are asked to continue wearing masks for their protection and the protection of others. We will rely on the honor system and will not ask for vaccination proof. Anyone is welcome to continue wearing masks if they should choose.

2. We will continue to preregister for Liturgy attendance via SignUp Genius accessible from our Website (to maintain contact tracing).

Page 2: holyassumption.org · Web view2021/06/27  · All Saints of the Holy Mount Athos. 9:00 AM Divine Liturgy. God’s desire for us is that we be set apart for him now so that we will

3. We will continue to maintain social distancing within the nave of the church.

Hopefully these remaining precautions can be lifted soon.

We are fortunate that we have been able to keep our church open during this difficult year though we have had to abide with restrictions. Thank you all for your understanding, patience, and cooperation.  We pray that we can resume normal parish life soon and that this health crisis will be eliminated.

5:00 PM GREAT VESPERS. EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE & GENERAL CONFESSION

Sun. 04 July All Saints of Ukraine. All Saints of the Holy Mount Athos.

9:00 AM DIVINE LITURGY.

God’s desire for us is that we be set apart for him now so that we will be set apart with him in glory and victory for all eternity.

As a start toward setting ourselves apart, we can take some simple steps. As they help us turn our hearts to God, they also prepare us for eternal life with him.

Set aside at least ten minutes of prime time each day for personal prayer. Examine your conscience daily and repent of the sins you find, knowing God forgives

you. Read scripture for at least ten minutes each day, asking the Holy Spirit to Enlighten your mind about what you read.

Prepare a plan to foster growth in the Lord that includes spiritual reading and participation in the life of the church.

Training for SAINTHOOD – Spiritual ATHLETE

1. Lord, I know that any athlete of worth frequently takes a physical workout, and it hurts.

2. I am not interested in being an athlete of this sort, but I will date being one of YOUR athletes, a saint.

3. It seems like chewing off a big bite, but I mean it, so help me be a saint.

4. I do not like to train my soul any more than a physical athlete likes to train his body.

5. However, I do not want to be a spiritual weakling in this “knockdown, drag out” fight of life.

6. When crosses come my way, help me take them as blessings, not curses.

7. When afflictions are my daily lot, let me smile as I go about my daily labors.

8. When I seem so alone in my troubles, let me refrain from crying on my neighbors’ shoulders. I’ll come to You and express my grief, but to no one else.

9. I will even date to impose some discomforts upon myself, not because I like to do these things, but because I want to prove to myself and to You that I can be one of Your well-trained athletes, a SAINT.

–Reverend Vincent Naes.

VICHNAYA PAMYAT! MEMORY ETERNAL!WE PRAY FOR THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING of the ill-afflicted: Steve Sivulich, child Oleksandra, child Alexandria, Elizabeth, Daria, Catherine Kochenash, Joan Molnar, Bill Ketterer, Paul, Richard Stetch, Evan, Brandon and Stacy Snyder, Aaliyah Osmun, Michael Mack, Ihor Broda, James Osmun, Matthew, Tom, William Savitz, Vladimir & Emma Krasnopera, Brendan Phillips, Jessie Hnatow, Jessica Meashock, Adam Hewko, Andrew Thaxton, Susan Ferretti, Judy Albright, Rob Hewko, Daniel Kochenash, Christopher Mack, Norman Betrous, Luba Walker.

In an ancient legend. Two brothers in a village in CENTRAL EUROPE were caught stealing sheep. THEIR punishment for the crime was to have the letters "st" branded on their foreheads. Identifying them as sheep thieves. THEY were to carry that mark for the rest of their lives. FOR one of the brothers, life went from bad to worse. SOME years later he died in jail. HOWEVER, the other brother was deeply repentant. HE found the LORD JESUS. HE turned his life around. Not only did he grow in self-respect but also, he became an extremely caring person and earned the respect of others. YEARS went by. A stranger came to the village, he noticed the 'st' on the man's forehead and asked one of the younger citizens what it meant. "I really don't know the details," the young citizen replied. "IT happened many years ago. But I think the letters 'st' on his forehead are an abbreviation for the word 'SAINT'."

1. By remembering and honoring the saints we celebrate what the Holy Spirit has done in their lives. God is praised in and through His saints.

2. The saints are those who, having advanced closer to the goal of theosis (becoming like God in Christ), can help the rest of us through their example and prayers.

3. Made in the image of God and baptized in the Trinity, every Christian has the potential of sainthood and is called by God to be a saint. Just as there are Saints with a capital "S", those officially canonized by the Church, so there are "saints" with a small "s", all baptized and committed Christians.

4. Saints are our brothers and sisters in the household of God. We pray to God not only as individuals but also as members of God's family together with the saints. We may call upon them for family support beseeching their intercession in and through Christ.

5. The Saints are the heroes of our faith. God's "Hall of Fame", who offer all of us a great incentive to virtue.

6. As a great "cloud of witnesses", the saints fill the bleachers of heaven cheering us on with their prayers and challenging us with the example of their lives.

7. Since Jesus Christ is the "one mediator between God and man", saints are not mediators but intercessors. We do not pray to Saints; rather we ask them to pray for us.

8. The Theotokos (Mother of God) is venerated and honored because of her Son and never apart from Him. She is the Panaghia, the first and fullest of the Saints, leading the Church in a continuous intercession to the Trinity.

9. Saints are not worshipped; they are venerated. Only God is worshipped.10. Orthodox Christians respect and venerate the relics of the Saints (bodily remains) because the

body along with the soul is redeemed and sanctified; one day it will rise from the grave to be with God forever.

* "When you perceive that God is chastening you, fly not to his enemies...but to his friends, the martyrs, the saints, and those who were pleasing to him, and who have great power in God."

* "It is simply impossible to lead, without the aid of prayer, a virtuous life."

* "God asks little, but He gives much."
