English-The Snail and the Whale

With an adult, read the rest of the story below.

With an adult, discuss what how the snail would feel during key parts of this story. Act out different feelings, showing the expressions on your face.

Our key emotions we will be focussing on are:

· Adventurous

· Frightened

· Relieved

· Delighted

· Anxious

With an adult, talk about what these words mean.

On your worksheet, look at the pictures of key events in the story along the bottoms. Plot the snail’s emotions throughout the story. You can draw the snail.

For example, when the snail is visiting the island, she might feel adventurous.

Adventurous

Anxious

Frightened

Relieved

Complete the table showing how the snail’s emotions change throughout the story. Think about why they change at different parts. Would you feel the same?

Choose one picture and emotion and write a sentence using a conjunction (because/so/and/when…) to explain why the snail feels this way.

For example:

When the whale was beached, the snail felt frightened because she thought her friend might die.
