Interdisciplinary Learning New Beginnings For the first term we will be forming a new class community, learning about our new classmates and our new classroom. Class Charter The UNICEF Rights of the Child will be discussed; we will discuss what rights are and how we can respect these rights and take responsibility for them. Building Our Class Community Forming friendships, working as a team and solving problems if they arise will be explored in conjunction with our class charter and class rules. Fairyland: We will focus on fairytale characters and settings. The topic will encompass literacy, technology, science and expresssive arts. What I will be learning in P2 Term 1 2020-2021 Successful Learner Effective Contributor Confident Individual Responsible Citizen Curriculum Areas Literacy – Listening and Talking In Term 1 we will focus on listening skills, knowing when to listen and when to contribute, as well as listening to others views respectfully. Literacy - Reading The progression of Literacy Rich will be followed, firstly consolidating Block 2 phoneme blends (ai/ay, ee/ea, igh/y, oa/ow, oo/ew, ou/ow) and then continuing on to Block 3. Reading fiction and non-fiction text, we will develop core reading skills, comprehension skills, fluency, expression, reading for enjoyment and sorting and using information for different purposes. Literacy - Writing We will continue to work on letter formation. Using a variety of strategies, we will create texts and presentations and will focus on imaginative writing skills, including vocabulary, sequencing, punctuation and connectives. Numeracy - SEAL Our teaching of number will be focussed around the teaching of the Stages of Early Arithmetical Learning. For example, forwards and backwards counting, numeral recognition and formation and counting out quantities. Maths We will be covering a range of maths concepts starting with measuring length and money. Health & Wellbeing Our HWB focus is following the Building Resilience programme, with an emphasis on Looking On The Bright Side. PE During PE activities, we will be learning about teamwork, benefits of daily exercise, energy and ways to keep fit. We will also work on our speed, gross and fine motor skills, creativity, decision-making and motivation. French This term we will be learning French numbers and greetings. Technology/ICT In Term 1 we will look at internet safety and the importance of passwords and security. RME Ethos & Life of the School Ethos As a class we will discuss our rights and what makes a positive learning environment. We will create a class charter. Houses Each pupil will continue to be an active member of one of the school’s 3 Houses – Almond, Barnton, and Maybury. Through this the children will develop an understanding of team work and the importance of following our school rules. Team EC Award Celebrating personal achievement through nomination for the weekly Team EC Award and receiving whole school recognition. Science

This term we will be exploring the needs of a plant and understanding what they need to grow. We will also look at identifying parts of a flower.

Linked to topic work we will also explore the senses.

As a class we will discuss our rights and what makes a positive learning environment. We will create a class charter.

Houses

Each pupil will continue to be an active member of one of the school’s 3 Houses – Almond, Barnton, and Maybury. Through this the children will develop an understanding of team work and the importance of following our school rules.
