Weekly Planner Week commencing: Monday 27th April 2020 Class: Year 5 Squirrels and Otters Languages, Literacy and Communication This week you will be using the picture 'Around the World’ from 'Pobble 365’ as a stimulus for your written work. The task is to continue the story, but we would like you to focus on using the questions first as a stimulus for your writing. Be creative as you can and try to include lots of adjectives to describe the changing settings, key feelings and emotions. https://www.pobble365.com/around-the-world/ Here are some tasks you can try from the activity: Read the 'Story Starter,' can you use your imagination and creativity to finish the short story. Think about: who will make it to the finish line and claim the prize winnings? What problems/encounters might be faced along the way? How many balloons are taking place in the race? What will the crews need to do to prepare for such journeys? Add those extra details with 'Sentence Challenge.' Remember: - include accurate use of commas and adjectives describe the noun. Test your grammar and vocabulary with 'Sick Sentences' Imagine you are a crew member for one of the balloons. Can you draw everything you would take with you on the journey? Writing Task ''Chef Challenge!’’ This activity is to write a list of instructions using commands. Try to think of extra information or warnings which may apply to your recipe, as well as a full list of equipment and ingredients. Languages, Literacy and Communication This week you will be using the picture 'Around the World’ from 'Pobble 365’ as a stimulus for your written work. The task is to continue the story, but we would like you to focus on using the questions first as a stimulus for your writing. Answers to the comprehension challenge will be uploaded on Friday so you can check how you have done.

Spelling Task- As we are uploading fortnightly spellings, this week's focus continues to be on words ending in “ious’’ Last week we suggested some fun alternatives for learning your spellings such as using chalks outside, writing the

1. Choose some sentence patterns, from the list provided, to practice with a family member, take turns to ask and answer the questions. How many can you answer in one minute?

2. Use the sentence pattern booklet ‘Newyddion 5 a 6’ to help you write a short diary entry about your week or weekend.

Mathematics and Numeracy

This week we have allocated work on Active Learn linked to measures. Some other activities this week include 'Digits of Time' problem solving challenge, Marching Madness, Time homework sheet and 3 fluency fitness challenges: 'Dog Divisions,' ‘One More, One Less' and 'Take it away.' Activities can be accessed via HWB/TEAMS or on your Active Learn account. Remember, the answer sheet to the homework task will be uploaded at the end of the week. You can also try the ‘Dragons in the City Time Challenge.’ Just choose which level you feel is suitable 1*- mild, 2**- hot, or 3*** - hottest.
