Language Learning Reminders:

Do Not Use a translator. Your teacher knows when the work is not your own. There are no repercussions for mistakes right now. So, do your best work and challenge yourself.

If you need a dictionary and don’t have one at home, I encourage you to use www.wordreference.com or www.linguee.com.

The term “target language” refers to the language you are studying at school. Unless the directions say otherwise, all work needs to be turned in to your teacher in the target language.

Bear on a Train:

Level 1-2: Make a list of the items you can name in the target langauge and then write 1 sentence to describe what the people and the bear are feeling.

Level 3-4: Write a seven sentence paragraph about what is happening in the picture.

Level 5-6+: Write a story (150 word min.) and explain what will happen after the bear gets off of the train.

Spanish Literacy: Write a story (200 word min.) explaining what has led to this moment.

Comic Strip Story:

Level 1-2: Write a quick comic about a boy and his dog and then illustrate your story.

Level 3-4: Write about what happened (past tense) between a boy and his dog in the park yesterday. Don’t forget to illustrate your story.

Level 5-6+: Write a story a boy and his dog who get lost in a big city and then illustrate your work. Remember you are an honors student and your work should reflect your language abilities.

Dear Diary

This assignment may be turned in as a video/recorded diary or in written format.

1-2:  In complete sentences, write ten things that you do on an average day.  Do not repeat verbs.

3-4:  In complete sentences, write ten things that you DID today. (preterit tense). Do not repeat verbs.

5-6+:  Write a complete diary entry of a minimum of 150 words.  Use several different verb tenses - explain how you feel, what you did today, what you will do tomorrow, etc.

TV Show or Movie Analysis

Watch your favorite TV show or movie.

Level 1-2: Choose three characters and write 5 descriptive (use adjectives) sentences for each character. Include a drawing of each character.

Level 3-4: Write a summary of the show/movie. Your summary should be detailed and at least 100 words. Draw a picture to go with your summary.

Level 5:6+: Choose one character to do a character analysis. Then choose one of the following activities:

Option 1: Write a short essay introducing your character. Your essay needs to have 5 paragraphs and follow this general guideline:Paragraph 1: Who is your character? What is his/her name? How old are they? Where is she/he from?Paragraph 2: What was your character’s role in the show? Is she/he a “good guy” or a “bad guy”?Paragraph 3: Who are the main people/animals involved on your character’s life?Paragraph 4: What does your character do for a living? What other hobbies/likes does your character have (you may have to use your imagination if this is not available)?

Paragraph 5: Why did you choose this character?

Option 2: Being sure to cover all of the information above, you may format your assignment as an interview.

Spanish Literacy: Write an essay about your favorite show/movie following the outline below:

Paragraph 1: Introduce the show or movie. Describe the main characters and the location where the show/movie takes place.

Paragraph 2: Describe the relationship between the main characters. What problems do they have? How do they interact with each other?

Paragraph 3: What is the main conflict in the show/movie? Describe in detail.

Paragraph 4: How did the conflict get resolved? If the conflict is ongoing explain how the characters deal with the conflict.

Paragraph 5: Compare and contrast your life and the show/movie.

Paragraph 6: Explain why this is your favorite show/movie.

Speaking Option: You must speak in the target language (French, Spanish, Chinese or German)

Record yourself and send the recording to your teacher.

Level 1-2: Explain how the men in the picture are feeling. You need to have a minimum of 7 sentences.

Level 3-4: Describe what you think happened. You need to have a minimum of 10 sentences.

Level 5-6+: Pretend you are reporting a story for the news. Describe in detail what happened. Who are the men? Where are they? What are they doing to fix the problem. Your recording must be at least 30 seconds.

Spanish Literacy: Create a dialog between the people in the picture. Get a family member to help you and then record yourselves reading the dialog. Be creative and have fun. Your recording must be at least 45 seconds.

Written option: You must write in the target language (French, Spanish, Chinese or German)

Reading Practice (stories provided by EMC Publishing): Find the story in the language you are studying and follow the directions according to your language level.

Level 3-4: Explain the main idea to the story and justify your answer with specific details. Then make a cultural comparison between the target culture and your own. Again, use specific details.

Level 5-6+: Continue the story. Use, at least, 100 words to keep the story going.
