Words of welcome and introduction

Opening Prayer

All Come, let us pray and sing hymns to the Lord.Let us seek his blessing on those to whom we witness,to both friends and strangers, those in the community around us, and those far across the world.May we be as one household in Christ.

Song

I, the Lord of sea and sky,I have heard my people cry.All who dwell in dark and sin,My hand will save.I, who made the stars of night,I will make their darkness bright.Who will bear my light to them?Whom shall I send?

Here am I, Lord. Is it I, Lord?I have heard you calling in the night.I will go, Lord, if you lead me.I will hold your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain,I have borne my people's pain.I have wept for love of them. They turn away.I will break their hearts of stone,Give them hearts for love alone.I will speak my words to them.Whom shall I send?

Here am I, Lord. Is it I, Lord?I have heard you calling in the night.I will go, Lord, if you lead me.I will hold your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of wind and flame,I will send the poor and lame.I will set a feast for them.My hand will save.Finest bread I will provide,Till their hearts be satisfied.I will give my life to them.Whom shall I send?

The Liturgy of the Word

Narrator  1   Jesus went up the mountain, sat down, and began to teach his disciples. Jesus    Blessed are the poor in spirit Narrator    those who know they need God, Jesus    for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.Jesus    Blessed are those who mourn,Narrator  2 those who feel lonely, lost, helpless, and sad, Jesus    for they will be comforted.Jesus    Blessed are the meek,Narrator  3   those who quietly trust in God and put others before themselves, Jesus    for they will inherit the earth.Jesus    Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,Narrator  4   those who really want everyone to do what is right, Jesus    for they will be filled.Jesus    Blessed are the merciful,Narrator 5 those who get alongside people in need, Jesus    for they will receive mercy.Jesus    Blessed are the pure in heart,Narrator 6   those who love God with their whole heart,Jesus    for they will see God.

Jesus    Blessed are the peacemakers,Narrator  7  those who work for better relationships between people and countries, Jesus    for they will be called children of God.Jesus    Blessed are those who are persecuted because they stand up for what is right,Narrator   8 those who are treated badly when they try to do good, Jesus    for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.Jesus    Blessed are you when people are nasty to you and say bad things about you because you believe in me. Rejoice and be happy about this, because they did the same things to the prophets who spoke about me long ago. Your reward is great in heaven.

Luke 6: 20-31

Reflection

Profession of Faith Let us affirm, our common faith in Jesus Christ.

Do you believe and trust in God the Father, source of all being and life, the one for whom we exist?

All I believe and trust in him.

Do you believe and trust in God the Son,who took our human nature, died for us and rose again?

All I believe and trust in him. Do you believe and trust in God the Holy Spirit, who gives life to the people of God

Page 6:   · Web view2019-11-01 · I, the Lord of snow and rain,I have borne my people's pain.I have wept for love of them. They turn away.I will break their hearts of stone,Give them hearts

and makes Christ known in the world? All I believe and trust in him.

This is the faith of the Church. All This is our faith.

We believe and trust in one God,Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Prayers of Intercession

Loving God, we thank you for those people who are saints in the world today, those who follow your commandment to love one another and give their lives to help and care for others. We thank you for those who go and work in the most difficult and dangerous places of the world, put their lives at risk to help others, make personal sacrifices to campaign for change, help the people nobody else can be bothered with, work enthusiastically for no reward.Help us to learn from their example and be faithful followers of Jesus too.Help us to see and hear the things we can do to help others, and then get on and do them.Amen.

And Dear Jesus, thank you that you bless us – and often when life is hard:when we know we are poor in spirit – you bless us,when someone that we love has died – you stay close to us ,when we are humble and meek in your presence – you bless us ,when we are desperate for things to work out fairly – you hear us ,

Page 7:   · Web view2019-11-01 · I, the Lord of snow and rain,I have borne my people's pain.I have wept for love of them. They turn away.I will break their hearts of stone,Give them hearts

when we are merciful to other people – you bless us ,when we are trying to live pure and holy lives – you reveal yourself to us ,when we make peace between people – you bless us ,when people are horrid to us for following you – you help us to rejoice in your love .Amen .

Song

I will offer up my life in spirit and truthPouring out the oil of love, as my worship to youIn surrender I must give my every partLord, receive this sacrifice of a broken heart

Jesus, what can I give, what can I bringTo so faithful a Friend, to so loving a King?Saviour, what can be said, what can be sungAs a praise of Your name for the things You have done?Oh, my words could not tell, not even in partOf the debt of love that is owed by this thankful heart

You deserve my every breath, for You've paid the great costGiving up your life to death, even death on the crossYou took all my shame away, there defeated my sinOpen up the gates of heaven and have beckoned me in

Jesus, what can I give, what can I bringTo so faithful a Friend, to so loving a King?Saviour, what can be said, what can be sungAs a praise of Your name for the things You have done?

The peace of the Lord be always with you All And also with you

All may exchange a sign of peace.

Song

Lord, for the years your love has kept and guided, urged and inspired us, cheered us on our way, sought us and saved us, pardoned and provided:Lord of the years, we bring our thanks today.

Lord, for that word, the word of life which fires us,speaks to our hearts and sets our souls ablaze, teaches and trains, rebukes us and inspires us:Lord of the word, receive Your people's praise.

Lord, for our land in this our generation, spirits oppressed by pleasure, wealth and care:for young and old, for commonwealth and nation,Lord of our land, be pleased to hear our prayer.

Lord, for our world where we disown and doubt you, loveless in strength, and comfortless in pain, hungry and helpless, lost indeed without you:Lord of the world, we pray that Christ may reign.
