HistoryBegun in 1984, the TG
Internship, today known as Nexus Internship, was created
to provide opportunities for college students and
seminarians to explore calling into local church ministry. It
arose from a felt need to develop and nurture leaders
for future generations of predominantly English-
speaking Korean Americans who would need to be
theologically and practically equipped to bridge
complexities of being Korean and American, immigrant and
native, communal and individualistic, hierarchical and egalitarian. Since its inception, the summer internship has played a
significant and even critical role in the decision-making
and discerning process of its participants, many of whom are now actively serving in
United Methodist congregations and ministries throughout the United States.

The Nexus Internship is an opportunity for young adults to explore calling into ministry both within and without the local church context. Interns are matched with teaching sites committed to nurturing future leaders by exposing and involving interns into the full life and running of their ministries. Supervision and mentorship is provided at each site, usually in the person of the pastor or ministry director.
