OVERVIEW: logging in & out updated May 28 2015

The Admin Area is the ‘back office’ of the Gene Keys website. It has many tools and functions.

This guide will show how to Log In and Log Out of the web Admin Area, as well as what buttons not to press to avoid breaking the website!

1. In our web browser, copy and paste this URL: www.genekeys.com/wplogin

2. Enter in the USERNAME and PASSWORD that you will have been sent - we should now be logged into the Admin Area

3. There is a: VERTICAL MENU on the left, a HORIZONTAL MENU along the top and a ‘HOWDY, OFFICE MANAGER’ menu on the right hand side.

4. If we hover the mouse over any of the menu items in the vertical menu, then we will see SUB-MENU items come up. Don’t click on them yet - we’ll do that in detail in other guides.

5. Ignore all items in the TOP MENU

6. Once you are logged into the Admin Area of the website, you may find that any other pages of genekeys.com you have open will now have a black menu bar along the top and a green button at the bottom right (‘Activate Editor’). BE CAREFUL not to press any of these buttons (especially ‘Edit Page’ at the top and ‘Activate Editor’ at the bottom right).

These are for editing the HTML code on the page itself - and playing with them may ‘break’ the page!!

Don’t press these buttons - unless you know what you are doing! they are for editing the page code!

7. To log out, hover the mouse over the ‘Howdy, Office Manager’ menu on the far right of the screen - then click on Log Out.

Excellent! we have now logged into the web Admin Area of the Gene Keys, looked at the basic menu layout, not broken the website by pressing any buttons we are unsure of, and we’ve logged out!
