Design Options
Ammo Loading
The Method of loading ammunition in the gun can bealtered. This replaces the original method so the points forthat load are returned, except in case of belt loading, which isin addition to the base ammo load. Changing to break action reduces your ammo capacity to1; changing to cylinder, clip or magazine reduces ammocapacity to 4. These reductions can be offset (see ImprovedAmmo Capacity)

Barrel Extension/Reduction
Though there is a point at which the gain becomesminimal, extending a gun's barrel can add to its effectiverange. Increase the ranges of such modified firearms by 10percent. Shortening the barrel reduces ranges by 10 percent,but makes the gun easier to hide. Shothuns with a shortenedbarrel cannot have their choke set above 6.

Bullpup Configuration
Some firearms can be designed with the trigger placedfurther forward, in front of the clip/magazine. This makes the weapon more compact and concealable,and also provides 1 point of reciol compensation. This optionis not compatible with Improved Concealability.

Ceramic Components
By making the gun mostly or entirely out of nonmetallicparts, the gunsmith can reduce the risk of detection bymagnetic systems. Increase the Concealability rating of firearms with ceramiccomponents by +2 per level when attempting to avoiddetection by MAD systems. The maximum level available is3. At level 3, the gun is composed entirely of ceramic and isundetectable by MAD systems.

Some firearms, especially sniper rifles, are designed to bebroken down and rebuilt quickly. Guns with this option can be disassembled or re-assembled in 3 Complex Actions, and can fit into a largebriefcase when disassembled.

Firing Mode
A different trigger grouping will change the basic rate of firelisted in the firearms template, effectivly changing the modesin which the firearm can be used. The options are as follows:SS, SA, BF, FA, SA/BF, BF/FA and SA/BF/FA. Each mode is purchased individually, even whencombined with other modes. If a combination is purchasedthat includes the previous mode, the previous mode does notneed to be purchased. If the previous mode is dropped, thepoints for it are returned. For example, a submachine gun(base SA/BF) that is switched to BF/FA must pay the cost forFA, but the points for SA mode are returned.

High-Velocity Capability
This super machine gun is capable of firing at anextremely high rate. In burst mode, it fires 6-round burtsinstead of standard 3-round bursts. These bursts suffer recoilfor each bullet like standard bursts; a single burst incurs aRecoil Modifier of +6, a second burst in the same CombatPhase would suffer +12. HV-capable firearms have a maximum autofire rate of upto 18 rounds per Combat Phase, but cannot accept barrelmounts. A firearm must be capable of full auto fire to havethis option. This option is often combined with the recoil compensationoption to help reduce the high recoil generated by a 6-roundburst.

A gunsmith can increase the ammo capacity of a firearm.Firearms with internal magazines have an ammo maximumof 10 rounds, Cylinder loaders (or revolvers) can contain nomore than 7 rounds.

Some firearms can be designed to create a higher muzzlevelocity and a more effecient use of propellant force. Thisincreases the Power of a gun by 1 for each level purchased. For tasers, this option consists of a more powerfulcapacitor.

Metahuman Design
Some guns are designed especially for the small hands ofdwarf metatypes or the larger hands of troll metatypes. Thismakes the firearm more comfortable to use for the dwarf ortroll, but more difficult for other metahumans. Members ofany other metahuman race attempting to use a dwarf- or troll-modified gun suffer a +2 modifier when using the weapon. Adwarf attempting to use a troll-modified weapon suffers a +4modifier, and vice versa.

Reduced Calibre
By replacing the standard calibre of the firearm, with asmaller, the gunsmith can reduce weight, increaseconcealability and reduce the recoil of a firearm. Downside isa decrese in the lethality of the weapon. A firearm with a Reduced Calibre design option have onelower Damage Level. It gets a -1 recoil modifier thoughmaking it a popular choice when using High-velocity designs.
