We want to introduce you to one of the kids
from the Smelter Heights.
His Name is LESLIE BALDWIN JR.
Approx. 10 min. of Video Interview.
He is not alone, he is just one of hundreds of kids
who grew up in the immediate area that is
affected by the contamination.
The lead has affected him, and he has gone thru life
mistreated and looked down upon by many.
No explanation has ever been given to him, and
until now he didn’t really know.
He has never been offered any help or explanation until
some of the facts were brought to light.
Much information has been swept under the rug. This has caused many to
suffer for years.
I call for the churches and their members to reach out, at least with “understanding”, and to
learn how to identify lead damage and the other
chemicals that have killed many of your own members,
and citizens.
Most churches have their own prayer list. How many names
do you remember seeking prayer for just kidneys?Think back for 10 years!
We are just now truly discovering the effects, and can recognize the scale of the problem.
Our speaker and hundreds of others are
not like this because GOD looked down upon
them.
They are like this because of lack of information and
an outright cover-up going on now for 35
years.
This man and many others have never been
offered any help, hope or understanding.
What's funny, for you non- believers, is that this same stuff
that made him this way is under your home, in your
alleys, under your street and in your yard.
It’s leaching into your basement, storm cellar, and can get into your
water every time a water line breaks around town.
The main water line that feeds the whole town,
runs next to the 150,000 cubic yard toxic dump.
That line did break about 8 years ago, and it was in
a very bad spot.
CAUTIONIf you have a sump
pump, every time it kicks on you may be dumping
toxic waste onto your yard.
This plume extends from 21st street across Main street and
from Doolin to Ferguson It’s not just about some poor
folks.
The plume really doesn’t mean much. New studies
have show the sewers on all of Fairview are
contaminated. They are far from the plume.
All the creek systems are contaminated. All have lead, mercury, arsenic, and very
high levels of zinc, which can be harmful. All waterways in
Blackwell and all standing water, and mud are affected.
The Shaw group dug up the creek, stirred up the toxins and they will wash down every time
it rains Keep the kids out of the creek.
This is no joke!
EPA in 1993 highly recommended that all kids be
tested for lead. Only three children under the age of six were tested. Why?? This was the most at risk group. They knew that group would show
high lead levels.
Insert EPA letter
Your city will not even put up signs warning of the
dangers. There's none at the creeks or even on the BIP.
WHY?
The cover-up has gone on long enough.
Don’t you find it odd the city has not responded to the contamination issue.
NOTHING in the Newspaper.
Even in a city meeting when an Engineer stated
“Cadmium has exasperated our sewer problem”. Our Newspaper was silent!!!!
The things they have done aretake down the campaign signs and defame us thru their little group. The good news is, that
the smarter ones who have nothing to loose, are finally
understanding they have been duped..
They are contaminated also.
What I am doing is not going to lower your property values.
How do you lower something that's the lowest in can be.
Correct clean-up can only raise your property value!
We already have the highest electric, sewer,
and tax base. Thanks to Phelps Dodge and the city council, we are paying for
this contamination.
We just got stuck with a multi-million dollar
water basin, because of the contamination. It was billed to you, not
Phelps Dodge.
Willis time tickets show he is billing the city for
PR work for Phelps Dodge now at $85.00 an
hour.
We are in trouble with ODEQ for dumping
contaminates in the river. (not raw sewage) Is this basin for Phelps Dodge passed off by Willis and
the ODEQ to you?
Where is our leadership?
Who approves a school to be built on contaminated soil, removes the
top 12 inches and dumps it illegally on the river? Then who brings back soil that came from underneath an abandoned oil
refinery and spreads it on our new school location?
The soil should have been taken to the BIP, not across town
damaging our only new street. They didn’t even cover the
trucks. Where was our leadership that is suppose to protect us? We have always depended upon them to take
care problems.
We should be very careful and elect new leadership to do just
that!!!
Where were the stories in the newspaper,
Integrity:1. Possession of firm principles
2. The state of being sound
“ The integrity of this program will be tested during its
execution”
Unfortunately, my job is to bring certain things out that makes me unpopular among
the responsible parties. They in turn, will go kicking and
screaming to anyone whom they think they can control or
bully.
