CHSV MUN

CHSV MUN stands for Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam Model United

Nations. I was one among the many students, our school sent to attend

this conference! All of us were asked to register and in the process we

had to select which committee we wanted to be in and if we were lucky

we would get the one we wanted. My first option was ‘WHO’. World

Health Organisation and the agenda was ‘Preventing femicide and

reducing abortions’. Luckily I had received a mail from CHSV, saying

that I was successfully a part of ‘WHO’ and was the delegate of

‘Jordon’. This ‘MUN’ was my 4th one and the experience was absolutely

amazing! Not only you gain a huge amount of knowledge about pressing

world issues, at the end of the day you also get to come up with proper

solutions to solve them. Every committee drafts a resolution and very

few pass them successfully, we passed a resolution and the outcome was

amazing! Our chair and Co-chair actually send it to the actual ‘WHO’.

The conference goes on for two days. The first day representatives of

countries (delegates) address their countries say on the given agenda,

and we debate on the various topics our chair (Head of the conference)

gives us. Usually this is the phase where we learn a lot about our agenda.

The next day, the debate on various topics continue and after lunch

breaks things begin to get a little serious. We divide into blocks and we

draft resolutions. A block is a group of delegates representing various

countries. We had two blocks, two sets of resolutions out of which only

one from a particular block will be selected unanimously. Our set of

resolutions got the most number of votes and we made it quite strong

with proofs.

A committee is only said to be successful, only if it passes a resolution.

We passed one, and by one I don’t mean ‘one’. I mean more than it is

resolutions in one paper. I got to learn a lot, see new people and make

friends. The experience on the whole was wonderful!
