WE HELP PEOPLE OVERCOME.

FOR OVER 50 YEARS, WE’VE BEEN SOLVING A PROBLEM THAT’S ALL AROUND US.

T H E P R O B L E M W E ’ R E S O L V I N G

More than 60 million people in the U.S. suffer from physical, mental, or social barriers that impact how they live. The majority have fallen through the cracks and aren’t receiving the care they deserve.

At Hope Network, we are advocates for these people – by providing services that give them a better chance to overcome life’s challenges. The result is fulfillment through independence, progress, and community integration. Whether it’s someone recovering from a brain injury, a child growing up with autism, or someone living with a mental illness, we have countless stories of restoration to tell.

HERE’S HOW WE MAKE HOPE POSSIBLE.Overcoming looks a little different for each person we serve. That’s why the services we offer are so deep and broad. But more important than what we do is why we do it. We believe each person deserves a rewarding, fulfilling life. That’s why, instead of taking a one-size-fits-all approach, we look at each individual – no matter the injury, diagnosis, or situation they have to overcome.

WITH OVER 240 LOCATIONS AND 2,800 STAFF MEMBERS , WE SERVE MORE THAN 23,000 PEOPLE ANNUALLY THROUGHOUT MICHIGAN.

It’s who we are. It’s what we do.

Because we have a belief that every person,

created by God, can be more.

Can do more.

Can go further than anyone ever imagined.

This is what Hope looks like.

OVERCOME.

GUTSY. DRAMATIC. BRAVE. THESE ARE WHAT COMEBACKS ARE. THIS IS WHERE THEY HAPPEN.

Life can change in an instant. A brain or spinal cord injury can make the simple things in life seem far away. That’s why we’re firmly dedicated to helping people make a comeback.

For over 30 years, Hope Network Neuro Rehabilitation has helped people with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and other neurologic conditions re-establish purposeful participation at work or home, and return to the leisure activities they enjoyed prior to their injury.

It was a terrible car crash. Doctors expected Emily to be paralyzed, her injuries were so serious. Among them, a severe brain injury that left her dependent on a wheelchair, struggling to talk, and forced to relearn the simplest tasks. A recovery seemed insurmountable. But Emily pushed her body to the limit and never gave up. Today, she’s living her comeback story. “I have the old me back!”

CHANGING THE WORLD FOR CHILDREN WITH AUTISM.Autism Spectrum Disorders occur in 1 of every 68 children. At Hope Network’s Center for Autism, we give every child a chance for a healthy, productive life. Through early intervention and comprehensive outpatient treatment services like Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), we see results in children with autism that were not believed possible 10 years ago. Our clinical team develops a personalized treatment plan for each child to maximize outcomes.

Neuropsychological/Psychological Evaluation Provides assessments for children who may be exhibiting academic, developmental, or emotional struggles.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)Involves highly structured, skill-oriented activities so children with autism can function in their daily lives.

For the first year of his life, Max followed the milestones of a normal baby. Then he regressed, words were replaced with crying and tantrums, and he was diagnosed with severe autism. Recognizing the importance of early intervention and therapy, his mom made the bold choice to move their family from Indiana to Michigan so Max could go to Hope Network’s Center for Autism. That decision changed Max’s life. Instead of depending on special education and living in a group home as an adult, Max will have the same choices as other children. The choice to go to college, have a job, and a family. Fortunately for Max, hope was just within reach.

REDUCING THE DEVASTATING EFFECTS OF MENTAL ILLNESS.

This year alone, one in five people will experience a mental illness. That’s a statistic that touches all of us. We believe that ensuring mental health is as critical as our physical health, that’s why we serve more than 9,000 people with a broad continuum of care.

From crisis to community-based living, we treat mental illness, complex care needs, co-occurring disorders, and other related conditions. We focus on teaching and bringing about change, rather than simply “managing” behaviors. By emphasizing an individual’s unique abilities, not disabilities, we help them assume control over their own lives and reach their highest potential.

When Bernie left the psychiatric institution where he lived for 30 years, the staff said he’d never make it on the outside. But he’s never looked back since arriving at Hope Network’s River Valley campus. It’s home for people with mental illness like Bernie, where they can roam throughout the building and backyard, and participate in regular exercise, music class, and community outings. Bernie has a mental illness. But at Hope Network, he also has hope. And there’s nothing more important than that.

SUPPORT—WHEREVER, WHENEVER, AND HOWEVER IT’S NEEDED.

C O M M U N I T Y S U P P O R T S E R V I C E S

Those we serve often live in a community that wasn’t designed for people with disabilities or facing socio-economic disadvantages. That’s why we offer comprehensive support services to work in conjunction with one of our specialized care services, or as a stand-alone option, depending on the individual’s needs.

Whether it’s a place to live, a place to work, or a ride to an appointment, we’re here and ready to serve. We continue to help individuals achieve their wants, meet their needs, and maximize their potential for greater independence.

12

HousingOur subsidized housing services provide income-based apartment and townhouse rentals that are safe, comfortable, and affordable.

Supported Independent LivingIndividuals who desire more independent community living options – yet still need help with basic needs such as meal preparation, laundry, or nursing – can receive supports in a variety of locations across West Michigan.

Michigan Education CorpsOver 45,000 Michigan students are failing to reach basic levels of literacy. We’re here to change that. Michigan Education Corps works with students age three through grade three, ensuring each one has a chance to succeed. To get children back on track, we partner with AmeriCorps members who provide students in our program tutoring in their own school, five days per week, over the course of the school year. We isolate each child’s challenges and create a tutoring schedule to help them catch up to their peers.

Transportation We provide accessible, cost-effective options for people in need of transportation services across Michigan, and manage a specialized transportation fleet in Kent County. If you see a bus with the message “We Help People Overcome,” that’s us.

Workforce DevelopmentWe believe that through employment, individuals can achieve meaning and identity, and establish their place as a contributing member of their community. Hope Network Workforce Development serves those with disabilities, disadvantages, or other barriers to employment by providing specialized training and evaluation, job placement, and ongoing supports.

Care CoordinationWe offer a full range of care and services including psychiatric, nursing, and behavioral supports. We also provide assistance with housing, obtaining benefits, coordinating medical care, facilitating vocational supports, and fulfilling other needs.

WE HELP PEOPLE OVERCOME. AND TO DO THAT, WE NEED YOU.If you believe in our mission to help people overcome, there are many ways to get involved.

G E T I N V O L V E D13

We believe it can inspire, spark the first steps of recovery, be an advocate,

lead to groundbreaking approaches, and motivate people in incredible

ways. If you have nothing, but you have hope, you have everything.

So join us. Be part of a mission that takes on the challenges, the barriers,

the statistics, the seemingly impossible. Help us overcome them all.

WE BELIEVE IN HOPE.PARTNER
