LAFAYETTE-ORINDA PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SUNDAY WORSHIP BULLETIN SUPPLEMENT
Hymns of Praise: Let the Whole Creation Cry (Hymnal #679) Text: Stopford A. Brooke, 1881, alt.; Music: Jakob Hintze, 1678; harm. Johann Sebastian Bach Let the whole creation cry “Glory to the Lord on high.” Heaven and earth, awake and sing “Praise to our almighty King.” Praise God, angel hosts above Ever bright and fair in love Sun and moon, uplift your voice Night and stars, in God rejoice! Men and women, young and old Raise the anthem loud and bold Join with children’s songs of praise Worship God through length of days From the north to southern pole Let the mighty chorus roll “Holy, holy, holy One Glory be to God alone!”
I Sing the Mighty Power of God (Hymnal #32) Text: Isaac Watts, 1715, alt.; Music: Gesangbuch der Herzogl. Wirtembergischen Katholischen Hofkapelle, 1784; alt. 1868 I sing the mighty power of God that made the mountains rise That spread the flowing seas abroad and built the lofty skies I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day The moon shines full at God’s command, and all the stars obey I sing the goodness of the Lord who filled the earth with food God formed the creatures through the Word, and then pronounced them good Lord, how thy wonders are displayed, where’er I turn my eye If I survey the ground I tread, or gaze upon the sky! There’s not a plant or flower below but makes thy glories known And clouds arise, and tempests blow, by order from thy throne While all that borrows life from thee is ever in thy care And everywhere that we can be, thou, God, art present there
Reading: Psalm 34:1–8 (The Message) I bless God every chance I get; my lungs expand with his praise. I live and breathe God; if things aren’t going well, hear this and be happy: Join me in spreading the news; together let’s get the word out. God met me more than halfway, he freed me from my anxious fears.

Look at him; give him your warmest smile. Never hide your feelings from him. When I was desperate, I called out, and God got me out of a tight spot. God’s angel sets up a circle of protection around us while we pray. Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see— how good God is. Blessed are you who run to him.
Preparation for Prayer : Create in Me a Clean Heart Words and Music: Keith Green Create in me a clean heart, O God And renew a right spirit within me 2x
Cast me not away from your presence, O Lord And take not your Holy Spirit from me Restore unto me the joy of your salvation And renew a right spirit within me
Response: Assurance Text: Fanny J. Crosby; Music: based on Assurance by Phoebe P. Knapp and Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring by J. S. Bach, arr. by John Ness Beck
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood This is my story, this is my song Praising my Savior all the day long 2x Perfect submission, all is at rest I in my Savior am happy and blest Watching and waiting, looking above Filled with His goodness, lost in His love This is my story, this is my song Praising my Savior all the day long This is my story, this is my song Praising my Savior all my life long
Scripture: Job 42:1–6 Then Job answered the LORD: “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. ‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?’ Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. ‘Hear, and I will speak; I will question you, and you declare to me.’ I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you;

therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”
Guiding Light Words & Music: Foy Vance
Well the road is wide Waters run on either side And my shadow in the fading light Is stretching out towards the night ’Cause the sun is low And I yet have still so far to go And my lonely heart is beating so Tired of the wonder But there's a sign ahead Though I think it's the same one again And I'm thinkin' about my only friend So I find my way home When I need to get home You're my guiding light You're my guiding light Well the air is cold And yonder lies my sleeping soul By the branches, broke like bones This weakened tree no longer holds Well the night is still And I have not yet lost my will Oh and I will keep on moving ’till ’Till I find my way home When I need to get home You're my guiding light You're my guiding light
The Lord’s Prayer Text: Matthew 6:9–13; Music: Albert Hay Mallotte, arr. by Donal P. Hustad Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever Amen.

Closing Hymn: Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah (Hymnal #65) Text:William Williams, 1762; stanza 1, trans. Peter Williams, 1771; stanzas 2–3, trans William Williams, 1772; Music: John Hughes, 1907 Guide me, O thou great Jehovah, pilgrim through this barren land I am weak, but thou art mighty. Hold me with thy powerful hand Bread of heaven, bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more Feed me till I want no more Open now the crystal fountain, whence the healing stream doth flow Let the fire and cloudy pillar lead me all my journey through Strong deliverer, strong deliverer, I will ever give to thee I will ever give to thee When I tread the verge of Jordan, bid my anxious fears subside Death of death, and hell’s destruction, land me safe on Canaan’s side Songs of praises, songs of praises I will ever give to thee I will ever give to thee
