We exist to magnify God’s word and transform the world. MARCH 2020 “Connecting Families with the Family of Faith at Edgewood Baptist Church” Edgewood Baptist Church, 717 South Main Street, Nicholasville, KY 40356 Be One, Make One We are now in March, which seems impossible, but this is going to be a great year at Edgewood. Between celebrating God’s faithfulness over the past 50 years and looking forward to future ministry, I want to remind us of the vision for the discipleship ministry at Edgewood. In discipleship, we need something that we can hang on to, easy to remember, and something that can motivate us to be the disciples of Christ that He has called us to be. So, God laid this statement for discipleship on my heart for us at EBC, Be One, Make One. This statement is our goal statement as disciples of Christ, this is the fulfilling of the great commission that we read in Matthew 28: 18-20, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…” We are called as followers of Christ to be disciples and to make disciples. We are called to build disciple- making relationships in Church, Sunday school, at home, work, school, and wherever else God has placed us in our day to day lives. I am excited to see lives transformed for Jesus in our community, and as eve- ryone in the church comes together to “Be One, Make One” we will see an amazing impact on friends, families, and even complete strangers in our city, state, country, and even the world. Cody Dean, Associate Pastor of Education and Discipleship [email protected] Cody Dean Associate Pastor Spring is coming! And for once I can say AMEN to that! Things at Edgewood are definitely on the move! The choir is starting to work on Easter, and I believe you will love to hear the presentation of "Is He Wor- thy." Also, if you would love to have an outstanding op- portunity to work with children who need to hear the Word of God, Vacation Bible School will be here before you know it! Brett Burton, Worship Pastor [email protected] Brett Burton Worship Pastor March is a time of transition. Spring is getting closer, hopefully. And for UK basketball fans, we transition into the greatest 3 weeks of sports on the calendar year: March Madness and the NCAA Tournament! It is also a time in which we transition into a new mes- sage series on Sunday morning entitled Famous Last Words. We will take an up-close examination of the last seven sayings of Jesus on the cross. It is an in- credible time that will begin the first weekend of March and take us to Easter. We will also begin and end the series with Com- munion, which is an incredible time of reflection and celebration for the church body. This is also a great time to ramp up our inviting. The Roman Road to Salvation in Jesus Christ.

God loves you and wants you to experience peace and life with Him. “We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” - Romans 5:1 We do not have this peace and life with God because we are separated from Him by our sin. “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” - Romans 3:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” - Romans 6:23 Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead paying the penalty for our sin and bridging the gap between God and people. “But God demon-strates His own love for us in this, while we were still sin-ners, Christ died for us.” - Romans 5:8 Each person must choose to trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and receive Him by inviting Him into his or her life. “If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” - Romans 10:9,10 “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” - Romans 10:13 To receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior: Admit your need to Him that you are a sinner. Be willing to repent or turn away from your sin. Believe that Jesus died for you on the cross and rose from the dead so that you can have a new life in Him. Through prayer, (talking to Him), receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior by inviting Him to come into your life and take control through the Holy Spirit.

March is said to come in like a lamb or lion. Always check to see if the wind is blowing. Reach for a scar f or head cover . Check to see if you are ready. Have a good time while you are out. Weatherman says it will be a lion today. Each weatherman says something different, today it will be a lamb. After the weatherman says one thing or the other who really knows. The person who knows is God. He had the lamb and lion with Him at all times. Either the lamb of God will be gentle, oR the Lion of Judy will be ferocious. -submitted by Fanell Scudder

Frank and I are preparing to return to Malawi this July. We will work primarily in Kafunde Village where my mission team planted a church in 2018. Our work will include hut-to-hut evangelism, discipleship, partak-ing of the Lord’s Supper with the Kafunde church, baptism with 10 churches, preaching and speaking at dif-ferent churches, working with youth and children, working with a school, and sharing the gospel in other vil-lages in the surrounding area. We have formed a great ministry team with local pastors and an IMB missionary who lives in the capital city of Lilongwe. We are seeking God’s voice as to what our purpose in Malawi is - what work is He calling us to do? How will He use us to fulfill His purpose? As I am planning for this trip and all the details that have to be worked out, I admit I become a bit over-whelmed! Which flight will be cheapest? Where will we stay? Where will we eat and WHAT will we eat? How will we travel? How will we pay our team’s salaries and expenses? WHERE is all that money going to come from? But as I was working through these details recently, I thought of the sermon Alex preached a few weeks ago which was based on Hebrews 12:1-3. Endurance. Perseverance. Don’t grow weary or lose heart. You may remember a story I told when I came home from Malawi in 2018. I talked about being in a church service when a man wearing a bright yellow shirt came crawling down the aisle. I have no idea how he got there and can only assume he crawled or got a ride from someone. But this man - this man! His legs were thin and weak and withered, but his face was shining with joy! He sang beautifully with the choir, raising his hands in praise! This man knew the meaning of endurance! How easy it is for us, in our first-world life, to grow weary of the race… to quit when the going gets hard, to change directions when the details of God’s call overwhelms us, or when we are misunderstood or ridiculed for doing what He has called us to do. But the man in the yellow shirt - he was so determined to praise our God that he crawled through the dirt so he could give thanks for what God had done in his life - his life as a disabled man in a third-world country. Can you imagine? I believe that man understands what it truly means to “run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” What if we would do that? We are fortunate people - born in the richest country in the world… everything is at our disposal and our fingertips… and yet… we give in to the daily inconveniences and disagreements until we let them pile up and take away our joy! Hebrews tells us to ‘throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.’ Will you join me in persevering until we reach the end? God has placed a long dusty road before me reach-ing all the way to Malawi, Africa, and He has placed a task in front of you as well. He has placed a task in front of Edgewood, too. What are we going to do with it? Are we going to push through and endure the jour-ney? Are we going to get out in our community and lead the lost to Jesus? Or are we going to grow weary and lose heart? We each have to decide what we are going to do. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fix-ing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such op-position from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:1-3 Submitted by Tina Muse, Mission Coordinator
