Week 7 Term 3

Learning Focus : We will use mental and informal written strategies foraddition and subtraction problem solving.

We have designed some questions just like last week, if you need some help to get started.

Enjoy exploring this week's addition and subtraction problem solving.

We are continuing with our same warm up this week. What do you think of ‘Dice Dots’?

Warm Up:

How many dots?

How do you know?

Can you write a number sentence to match your

thinking?

Task: ‘Takeaway Tuesday’.

Miss Chan wanted to find out some information for ‘Takeaway Tuesday’.

She asked the question “What is your favourite takeaway place?”

She wanted to put the information in the table below but she forgot the numbers!

Place Number of Students

McDonalds

KFC

Dominos Pizza

Sushi Train

Please help Miss Chan complete the table.

Here are some clues to think about:

CLUES1. 39 students chose KFC.2. Less students chose Sushi Train than KFC. The difference was 11.3. The number of students who chose McDonalds is double the number who chose

KFC.4. 199 students altogether answered Mrs Tuetue’s question. The rest of the students

chose Domino’s Pizza.

● Which choice would you have picked? Why?

If you need some help to get started:● Put the number of students who chose KFC in the correct column.● To find the Sushi Train numbers you will need to subtract 11 from 39.● You will have to add up the McDonalds, KFC and Sushi Train first to work out

the Dominos Pizza.

If you would like an extra challenge:There were 2 extra places, add this information to the table:

● The number of students who chose Hungry Jacks was ¼ the number whochose Sushi train.

● The number of students who chose Nandos was ¼ the number who chosechocolate.

● With these two new groups, how many students answered Miss Chan’squestion?
