We Are The Elect Of Godby Pastor Fee SolivenColossians 3:12-15Wednesday NightAugust 28, 2013
12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies,
kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;
13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a
complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in
one body; and be thankful.
12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies,
kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;
John 15:16-1716 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and
bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. 17 These things I command
you, that you love one another.
1 Corinthians 1:27-3127 But God has chosen the foolish things
of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of
the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 28 and the base things
of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things
which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29 that no flesh should
glory in His presence. 30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us
wisdom from God--and righteousness and sanctification and redemption-- 31 that, as it is written, "He who glories, let him
glory in the LORD."
1 Peter 2:9-109 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises
of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once
were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but
now have obtained mercy.
Ephesians 4:1-41 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord,
beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all
lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 3
endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
1 Corinthians 13:4-84 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is
not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked,
thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in
iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never
fails.
13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a
complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
(1) Remember how much the Lord forgave them
(2) Realize the presumption in refusing to forgive someone God had already
forgiven.
Mark 11:25-2625 "And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive
you your trespasses. 26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven
forgive your trespasses."
Matthew 18:21-3521 Then Peter came to Him and said, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin
against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?" 22 Jesus said to him, "I do not say
to you, up to seven times, but up to
seventy times seven. 23 Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 And when he had begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25
But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that
payment be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down before him, saying,
'Master, have patience with me, and I will
pay you all.' 27 "Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion,
released him, and forgave him the debt. 28 But that servant went out and found
one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on
him and took him by the throat, saying, 'Pay me what you owe!‘ 29 "So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged
him, saying, 'Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.' 30 "And he would not,
but went and threw him into prison till he
should pay the debt. 31 So when his fellow servants saw what had been done,
they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done. 32 Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, 'You wicked servant! I
forgave you all that debt because you begged me. 33 Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant,
just as I had pity on you?' 34 "And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that
was due to him. 35 So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his
heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses."
14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
1 John 3:10-1210 In this the children of God and the
children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. 11 For this is the message that
you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, 12 not as Cain
who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him?
Because his works were evil and his brother's righteous.
Ephesians 5:1-51 Therefore be imitators of God as dear
children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an
offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. 3 But fornication
and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is
fitting for saints; 4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which
are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. 5 For this you know, that no fornicator,
unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the
kingdom of Christ and God.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in
one body; and be thankful.
Philippians 4:3-74 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will
say, rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything
by prayer and supplication, with
thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through
Christ Jesus.
John 14:2727 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to
you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
