    Module Objectives

At the end of this module the trainee should be able to: Describe the WCDMA measurement process of Optimizer Perform WCDMA measurements for RNCs Combine and visualise WCDMA adjacency and DSR (Detected Set

    Reporting) KPI sets

Measurement Process For RNC RU10, Optimizer gets the measurements from NetAct PM database For RNC RAS06, Optimizer uses MML commands to run measurements directly in RNC

Existing actual adjacencies and/or detected cells are measured

    Starting the Measurement

Start measurements: Tools menu or Navigator popup menu Select the RNCs to be measured (RAS06 level)

from the Navigator from the Browser in the Start WCDMA Measurements dialog

    The user needs RUN_RNC_MEASUREMENTS rights

  • 8 Nokia Siemens Networks Presentation /PLe /20.4.2009For public use IPR applies

    Start WCDMA Measurements (1/4)

Define a new name Typical measurement parameters are

    1 - 5 days 1 - 4 times / day 30 min - 2 hours / measurement

Binary data is deleted by default from the RNC after successful retrieval to LinAs. After successful parsing binary data is also deleted from LinAs.

Also starting new measurement clears all old log files in RNC (not in LinAs).

Interferer search distance is used for mapping UARFCN/ scrambling code to cell-ID

    Check the scope before starting

    Start WCDMA Measurements (2/4)

One measurement can last for several days

Measurement times can be different every day

After measurement ends give Optimizer approximately the same time to process the data than you have been measuring

Optimizer automatically combines the KPI sets of each day to a custom set with the name of the measurement

You may use measurement names like May_06_09"if your measurement lasts several days

  • 10 Nokia Siemens Networks Presentation /PLe /20.4.2009For public use IPR applies

    Start WCDMA Measurements (3/4)

The scope is automatically set if any RNCs are selected in Navigator or Browser before starting the dialog

  • 13 Nokia Siemens Networks Presentation /PLe /20.4.2009For public use IPR applies

    RNC Status

During the measurements RNC status shows the buffer size and the number of collected messages, the filled buffer size and the estimated time to fill the buffer

Tools->Network Statistics->RNC Status, select RNC and refresh

Can also be used to terminate monitoring Test measurement can be used to approximate the measurement time and buffer

limitations A short measurement can be used to estimates how long (under current traffic

    conditions) one can run measurements

    Monitoring Measurements

Logs are parsed and KPIs imported automatically after the last measurement of a day

Parsed CSV files can be downloaded from the server for troubleshooting purposes

    WCDMA Adjacency KPI Facts

KPIs available only for measured RNCs Only one KPI set is imported for each day If measurement lasts several days Optimizer automatically combines the

sets of all days into a custom set with the same name as the measurement (e.g. "New Measurement")

KPI sets for each day and the combined custom set are available some time after the last measurement has stopped

Retrieval not possible since the data comes from RNC (not PM database) A custom KPI set == custom summarisation level for ADJG/ADJS/DSR A custom KPI set may contain ADJG, ADJS and DSR KPIs ADJG, ADJS and DSR KPIs from different measurement days

can also be manuallycombined into a new orexisting custom set

  • 19 Nokia Siemens Networks Presentation /PLe /20.4.2009For public use IPR applies

    Combine KPI Sets

Select an ADJG, ADJS or DSR KPI to view existing sets in Optimizer database

Give a new name or select an existing KPI set and expiration date and combine

Original sets for each day are still available after combining a custom set

Each KPI has to be combined separately. If one common set is wanted, reuse the KPI set name

  • 20 Nokia Siemens Networks Presentation /PLe /20.4.2009For public use IPR applies

    Visualisation of the Combined Sets

    Refresh ADJS/ADJG/DSR KPI summarisation levels

Select the new level Visualise normally If Day is selected then

the visualisation dateis the date selectedfor all KPIs

    WCDMA Adjacency KPIs on Map

Select the date of the measurements

Select a KPI to display for Adjacency Line

Show adjacencies for a cell KPI values can also be viewed

    in Browser

Summary WCDMA measurements are retrieved from Pm DB (RU10) or directly from

RNC (RAS06) WCDMA measurements for RAS06 can be defined in Optimizer

Number of measurement days Number of measurement times per day Duration of each measurement Start times of measurements for each day

Measurement status and RNC status can be monitored KPI sets are automatically imported into Optimizer database after each

day's measurements) KPI sets from different days are automatically combined into a custom KPI

set when the measurement lasts for more than one day Combination is needed to get more than just day level data After the measurements the KPIs are available for visualisation and

    optimisation
