Harrington WCA review: Year 2 recommendations – timeline
Recommendation Response Timeline
18 The review has asked Mind, Mencapand the National Autistic Society toprovide recommendations on refiningthe mental, intellectual and cognitivedescriptors. The review looks forward to
receiving these recommendations inlate November and will make anyrecommendations it sees fit toMinisters.
Response: We await afurther report fromProfessor Harringtonduring late Decemberor early January.
Recommendations to DWP in March 2011 :
• Independent Scrutiny Group currently consideringproposals
• Recommendations to Ministers – April
19 In year two the review should examinethe descriptors, in particular how theyaccount for other fluctuating conditionsand, possibly, generalised pain andprovide any recommendationsnecessary.

Recommendations to DWP in June 2011 :
• MS Society, Parkinson’s UK, National AIDS Trust,
Arthritis Care and Forward ME currently consideringdescriptors – will report back end April• Independent Scrutiny Group will consider proposals
and work with the groups to make finalrecommendations to Ministers – July
20 In year two the review should examinewhat happens to people who are foundFit for Work, people who are placed inthe Work Related Activity Group, in theSupport Group and people who do notcomplete their WCA.

Two workstreams:

longitudinal work on borderline cases will report in Year 3 ;• work on people who do not complete their WCA will
