WBUUC Phenology* Board
*The Study of Cyclical Events in Nature
Green SanctuaryWe created the Phenology Board at WBUUC in May 2013 so people could share their nature stories and observations.
The project is an on-going part of our green
sanctuary commitment.
To get everyone involved we spoke to all the different religious education classes about nature observation
The older youth got involved by creating the months of the year.
The younger classes made the numbers and some drawings of some of their favorite nature scenes.
What to expect?Every month we post a summary of last year’s phenology events so people can better understand these cyclical events and hopefully take notice of nature around them.
BluebirdMarch 17!
Every month we also include an additional item:
A little gem of information like an infographic, a comic, a poem, a wildlife tip, etc.
People have added their own items by taping newspaper articles or other interesting nature news to the board
Info and tidbits
At homeWe also encourage people to track phenology at home.
One idea is to use a blank calendar for observations –
what do you
notice or keep
track of?

Gathering SpotThe phenology board has proven to be a popular place for people to gather, meet and talk about what they’re seeing.
We now have over two years of members sightings from around church and around their lives and homes as well.
We’ve forged many new friendships around the board and cultivated an awareness and appreciation for the remarkable cyclical patterns of nature.
