The PMBOK defines the work breakdown structureas a "deliverable oriented hierarchical decompositionof the work to be executed by the project team.“
• Advantages of Creating WBS of a Project:• Assignment of responsibilities to the project team.• Indicates the project milestones and control points.• Helps to estimate the cost, time and risk.• Project scope is graphically expressed so that all the
stakeholders can have a better understanding.

A work package is just a collection of activities andtasks that fit together logically and could be “ringfenced” to assign to a responsible person.
Work packages are the lowest level of the WBSand are pieces of work. This is also the level atwhich the project manager has to monitor allproject work.
