Park Place program highlights for 2014-2015 include:
Transportation
Park Place buses transported 3792 seniors safely to and from medical appointments, grocery
shopping at area stores, from senior buildings, to nursing homes to visit loved ones, and shuttles
to and from Park Place for events, regular programs and important socialization.
Park Place Fitness & Wellness Program
2923 units of service were provided for seniors benefiting from the Fitness & Wellness programs
at Park Place, which includes the Arthritis Foundation Senior Size exercise classes, Zumba
Gold for Seniors, Country Line Dancing, Park Place Soul Dancing, Yoga & Meditation, the Park
Place Fitness Studio and a new men’s only fitness class. This also includes educational
workshops on health topics and screenings with the Park Place Wellness program, held at Park
Place and other locations throughout the Township.
Park Place Trip Program 821 people enjoyed outings to cultural events, plays, restaurants, musicals and sporting events,
including extended overnight trips where we took a Caribbean Cruise and visited Myrtle Beach.
Due to high demand, Park Place has added several exciting new trips in 2014-2015. October
2015 we will travel to Boston, Maine and New Hampshire and in 2016 we will travel to Hawaii.
Recreational Activates
Park Place instituted a new program schedule that allowed more programs to be enjoyed by
many more seniors. Even with the new program schedule many utilize Park Place to enjoy
themselves with many of our old favorites such as, Card games, the Senior Mouse Technology

Park Place program highlights for 2014-2015 include:
Support Groups & Support Services
2480 seniors benefited from support groups, addressing Low Vision, Alzheimer’s, Grief,
Grandparents raising grandchildren, and our Hispanic support group and our newest support
group, Life after Stroke. Seniors also enjoyed community services provided to them such as,
RTA reduce and ride free passes, Benefit Access Program and AARP tax services.
Events
1760 residents attended events created and planned for their enjoyment of seniors in
2014/2015, We have scheduled fewer events but they types of events that we’ve scheduled were
enjoyed by a wider range of individuals such as the U.S. Steele Workers Reunion. Some of our
more popular events include the Men of Distinction, Women Luncheon, Veterans Day, and our
ever popular Martin Luther King Breakfast..
Total units of service provided to seniors this year were 32,990
Park Place Bingo revenue has afforded us the opportunity to purchase new chairs in our game room and
new floor equipment for the continued beautification of Park Place.

Michael’s Story
Michael entered the
Eddie Washington Center
on March 14, 2014. Mr.
Williams had been
through decades of
h a r d s h i p a n d
homelessness, battling
alcoholism along the way.
After 9 months at the
Salvation Army, Mike
swore to himself he would
make the best of his time
at EWC and begin to
rebuild his life. Within 2
weeks of his entry he
o b t a i n e d f u l l - t i m e
employment, and kept the
job throughout his 7
month stay within the
program. Mike left the
program in October 2014,
he has maintained his
sobriety, still has his
apartment, and job, and
has just recently bought a
car. Mike is one of many
successes!

Erica’s Journey
After living 90 days in an
e m e r g e n c y s h e l t e r
operated by Catholic
Charities Erica entered
the Staben House
program. Within six
months of entering the
Staben House program,
Erica had secured full
time employment at Lake
F o r e s t H o s p i t a l ,
established a savings
account, secured her
drivers license and
purchased a vehicle while
maintaining a savings
account of over 4,000.00
dollars. Erica will be
transitioning into her own
apartment at the end of
this month.
Niki’s Journey
After a failed relationship
Niki found herself
pregnant for a second time
with a 1.5 year old in
hand and homeless. She
ended at PADS where she
was referred to Staben
House. She gave birth to
a beautiful baby boy while
in the program but six
weeks later Niki secured
child care, full time
employment at the local
Marshalls and started a
savings account. At the
end of May Niki will be
transitioning to her own
apartment.

Enhanced Senior Taxi Ticket Initiative
Allows population 55 and better to receive monthly taxi tickets in the mail without calling monthly

Cruise the Mississippi, dine and enjoy Big Band Sounds! Take

era. Our entertainers will be performing songs by Glenn Miller,
Guy Lombardo, Louie Armstrong, and many others. Your 4-hour
