2016-2017 School Profile Waubonsie Valley High School is a comprehensive four-year (9-12) high school serving the Naperville/
Aurora suburban community located approximately 40 miles west of Chicago along Illinois’ high-tech
corridor. It was established in 1975 in a rapidly growing school district and consists of students with
varied socio-economic backgrounds. The district has an attractive mix of residential, executive corpo-
rate, and retail areas. WVHS has been recognized as an Illinois Exemplary High School. The student-
teacher ratio is 27:1 excluding physical education, drivers education, special education and music. Stu-
dents participate in a broad spectrum of activities and clubs. WVHS has an outstanding athletic pro-
gram including 25 varsity sports and many intramurals. WVHS is fully accredited by the Illinois State
Board of Education and is a member of both NACAC and IACAC.

We will increase student connection to the Waubonsie community through effective academic interven-
tions and participation in extracurricular activities.
We will design summative and formative assessments that are aligned to course enduring understand-
ings, essential questions, and daily learning targets that yield accurate results of student learning,
and use this assessment information to plan instruction.
We will identify and challenge students of all subgroups to reach their academic potential through
enrollment in elevated course work.

Curriculum
Waubonsie Valley High School offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, offering over 175 courses to students. The opportunities are centered around the individual needs of the student and our philosophy to prepare students to navigate the post-secondary world. AP and Honors courses are the most challenging courses offered at Waubonsie Valley High School and are accelerated courses that are weighted by a +1.0 on the grade scale.

Indian Prairie Scholars
Waubonsie Valley High School has its own local honor society called the Indian Prairie Scholar Pro-gram. The criterion for membership is to achieve a 3.6 or higher cumulative GPA after six or seven semester. Indian Prairie Scholars are encouraged to perform service activities in the community and school to enhance their opportunities to grow as leaders. 221 students qualified for this honor.

School Activities
Our student activities cover a wide range of choices to meet student needs as well as in-
terests. Some highlights of the programs include:
Student Government allows participation for all interested students in a wide range of
activities such as organizing all major school events, participating in school and com-
munity committees, and representation to the School Board.
We have over 70 sponsored clubs with strong and active participation in IHSA competi-
tion, as well as other state and national competitive programs. These include vocational
organizations (BPA, VICA, FCCLA, DECA), Math Team, Scholastic Bowl, Speech and
Drama Competitive Events, and a nationally recognized Music program.
Twenty-five Varsity sports teams with over eighty-five levels compete successfully in
the Upstate Eight Conference and in IHSA competition, earning multiple Conference
Championships, State trophies, and multiple individual and team State Championships
in various sports as well as back-to-back State and National Championships for the
Girls Soccer Team.
