July 4th Celebration

By Sandy Singletary

Once again, Waterwood proved that we can throw a

great party! Participants in the boat parade went all out

this year decorating their boats. We had 7 golf carts

participate this year in the golf cart parade, and we had a

flag win best costume in the costume contest!

Congratulations to all of the winners! We hope that

everyone who participated had a great time.

The fireworks show was outstanding. Twenty minutes of

non-stop explosions! Waterwood continues to have one

of the best fireworks shows on Lake Livingston.

The social committee would like to thank everyone who

donated their time and hard work to make this a special

celebration for all of Waterwood.

Patriotism abounds!

Justin Curren Memorial

Golf Tournament for HAPS

By Teresa Brown

The Justin Curren Memorial Golf Tournament for

Houston Area Parkinson Society (HAPS), held Saturday,

June 24th, was a great success! Over $7000.00 was

raised to support such a worthy charity and to honor the

memory of our beloved friend – Justin Curren. Early rain

did not dampen the spirit of the tournament and at start

time, the weather cooperated with cooler temperatures

and overcast skies. Excitement was in the air!

The course was in beautiful form and with 64 players

(16 teams), the atmosphere was that of fun and friendly

competition. Water holes were everywhere but that

didn’t stop the courageous!

After the tournament, a delicious lunch of brisket and

sausage with all the trimmings provided by Dona Curren

and Andrew Curren was enjoyed by participants,

volunteers, sponsors and special guests. Desserts were

provided by the Women’s Golf Association. That

brisket! Oh. My. Goodness. So amazing!

In early January, 2017, the idea of the tournament was

taking form and by March the idea was a reality! In three

short months, the tournament was played! Thank you to

the Curren Family, Waterwood Men’s Golf Association,

HAPS and those that worked tirelessly to get the golf

course in such great shape. Also, thank you to the

volunteers, those that sponsored a hole, all participants

in the tournament, those that donated door prizes, served

on committees, provided golf carts and provided

refreshments. So many of you gave your time and

talents to help with this tournament and it couldn’t have

happened without each of you. What a tribute to our

great friend, Justin.

HAPS and Dona Curren. At the time the big check was

printed we had raised $5770.00. By the end of

tournament, we had raised over $7000.00!

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

What a wonderful neighborhood we live in! The Justin

Curren Memorial Golf tournament was organized in

Justin’s memory to benefit the Houston Area

Parkinson’s Society. A group of friends and neighbors

organized this tournament in a relatively short period of

time and raised over $7000.00 for HAPS.

My family and I would like to thank all of the

organizers, donors, volunteers, sponsors and players who

made the success possible. A special thank you to Steve

and Shirley Morrell and Rick and Teresa Brown. They

worked long and hard to pull this event together. What a

wonderful memorial to Justin benefitting a very worthy

recipient who gives such needed support to those

affected by Parkinson’s.
