O-Opportunity: a favorable

juncture of circumstances or

a good chance for advance or

progress. These definitions

summarize the entire purpose

of UNICO. The “opportunity”

for Italian-Americans to join

together and work as one unit

and the “opportunity” for

Italian-Americans to advance

through humanitarian efforts.

To me, the word opportunity,

when talking about UNICO, is

usually followed by “to serve”

which then translates to the

fact that we should use

whatever gifts we have

received from God to serve

others as faithful stewards.

As UNICANS we are a called

to “Service Above Self” which

conveys our humanitarian

efforts to help others while

perpetuating the vision of Dr.

Vastola of spreading the

positive imagery of Italian-

Americans in the United

States.

It is our duty as UNICANS to

take advantage of the

opportunities presented to us

to get involved, make a

difference and help others.

UNICO provides us the

opportunity to grow in our

love of service and our love

of our heritage.

Now is the time to put our

motto in action by getting

involved in and completely

supporting our upcoming

fundraisers. The Italian

Corned Beef Dinner, Duck

Day Raffle and Golf

Tournament are coming

quick and need your help to

be successful. As you know,

our ability to grant

scholarships or donations

to local/national charities is

contingent on the financial

success of our fundraisers.

So help, sell tickets,

volunteer, spread the word

and join the fun!! Your time

& talents are needed!

Walker Road Red Table Wine is a dry full-bodied red wine, fermented from St Croix grapes (70%) grown in Woodbury and at a local vineyard in

Watertown. This allows us to crush and process these grapes within hours of harvesting. The balance of the wine (30%) is from purchased grapes, which

allows us to balance critical properties and taste. Blending is an important part of wine making with an honored tradition in all significant winemaking regions. This wine is completely dry, but softened by slow cool fermentation and oak barrel storage. In 2008, Walker Road Red Table Wine was awarded a Silver Medal at a major competition including hundreds of wines submitted

by commercial wineries throughout New York and the 5 New England states. The competition was judged by Amenti Del Vino, national and

Chamber’s Annual Duck Day Race Raffle Sales

Commitment involves coordinating ticket distribution with our members; arranging

for location sales and publicity.

Ticket sales start mid-April and continue to the end of May. UNICO will receive $2.50 from every ticket

we sell. Each ticket has a chance to win one of 50++prizes!!

Once again, a Bill has been introduced in the CT State Legislature to name October “Italian and Italian-American Heritage” Month. This Bill was introduced by State Representative Anthony D’Amelio [R-71st

District] and is currently in the Government & Elections Committee. Our Anti-Bias Chair, Frank Travisano, testified at the hearing on February

22nd. This non-partisan Bill, which is endorsed by UNICO National, needs your support. Please contact

your State Representative and State Senator to make them aware of this Bill and ask them to sign on as co-sponsors. The official title of the Bill is: Bill #5151: An Act Recognizing October as Italian and Italian-

American Heritage Month.
