DESCRIPTIONWATERGUARD EPDM MEMBRANE (Ethylene

Propylene Diene Terpolymer) membrane is a 100%

cured unreinforced single ply elastomeric

compound (synthetic rubber membrane)

manufactured from ethylene, propylene and a small

amount of diene monomer. WATERGUARD EPDM

MEMBRANE is available in black colour. The EPDM

membrane is a vulcanized / thermo set membrane

that has been fully cured in the manufacturing

process. EPDM membrane has stable physical

properties, which makes repairs easier in the

unlikely event of cuts or tears.

TYPICAL PROPERTIES

APPLICATION OFWATERGUARD EPDM MEMBRANE

INSTALLATION OF MEMBRANEThe water proofing EPDM sheets are bonded to the roof surface which is clean

and free from oil, grease and other contaminants. In this method, the main

area of covering is bonded to its substrate with bonding adhesive. The surface

undulations shall be made up with screed concrete before applying the

covering. First the roof sheet is placed in its proper position, and adhesive is

applied with the brush or roller. The rubber sheet is then unrolled over the

fresh adhesive layer and roller worked until it is flat and free from wrinkles.

Alternatively, sheets can be laid loose, with rounded pebbles at the top, which

is called ballasted system. Sufficient counter weight is required to be provided

on the surface to prevent uplift due to wind pressure.

PREPARATION OF THE SUBSTRATEConcrete surface shall be structurally sound and dry to the touch. The

waterproofing sheet shall be applied on the roof surface after completion of

curing period. Roof slope should be a minimum of 2% to allow for adequate

drainage of the roof. All debris and non-adherent areas of the existing

bitumen roof finish shall be removed. Blisters and buckles will be cut open and

sealed; defects shall be repaired by gentle warming and redressing. All outlets

must be protected to prevent debris entering and causing blockage of down

pipes. The roof surface will be made clean, dry, smooth and free of

contaminants such as grease, animal fats, coal tar and oil based products. All

sharp edges, fins and rough surfaces that could damage the membrane shall

be removed or if they can't be removed, isolated from the membrane with a

leveling layer. If the surface is rough or uneven, a finishing cement mortar

grade 1:3 shall be provided over the surface. Ponding of water must be

removed from the work surface prior to installing the system.

SEAMINGAll side and end laps to be joined with a 100 mm wide, adhesive bonded splice.

Roll seams with a 50 mm wide silicone rubber roller, both across the seam and

along its' entire length. On small surfaces, seams can also be executed with

contact adhesives instead of self-adhesive tapes.

EXPANSION JOINTSFollowing procedure shall be followed to treating the expansion joints of roof

and walls.

The expansion joints shall be thoroughly cleaned including chipping of

existing mortar, thermocol / shalitex board etc. up to a depth of 200 mm.

The expansion joint shall be filled with polysulphide sealant (gun grade) with

polysterene board (thermocol sheet) of 50 mm thick and 50 mm wide as a

backing material. Polysulphide sealant (gun grade) shall be applied over the

thermocol sheet to have a watertight surface.

The expansion joint is covered with a sheet of WATERGUARD EPDM MEMBRANE, membrane glued to either side of the expansion joint using an appropriate

fastening system.

EPDM roof waterproofing shall be carried out over this treatment.

SPECIFICATION

Materials delivered at site shall be clearly marked with legible and intact labels. The products (adhesives etc.) shall be in original, unopened containers. Materials shall be stored in areas where temperatures conform with manufacturer's recommendations and instructions.

There are no direct health hazards associated with WATERGUARD EPDM MEMBRANE. Normal precautions for hot and volatile substances should be observed during application.

WATERGUARD EPDM MEMBRANE is a synthetic rubber membrane used in roof waterproofing system, used strictly in accordance with the instruction of FAIRMATE.
