The Watchers on the Wall

The illumination in the sky was not emanating from the sun whichwas still yet to rise. However all things were visible to those whowaited and watched.

The soldiers waiting in formation on the top of the icy wall could seeeach other clearly even though there was no obvious source of light.

Their uniforms were red and gold, their pointed peasant type hatswere straw coloured also. Soldiers they were, and of eastern origin,yet they bore no weapons.

Anxiety, apprehension and anticipation filled their breasts and

showed in their frequent sideways glances one to another.

Above each soldier, suspended on a cord, which was in turn attachedto a long line extending above the heads of all of the soldiers, was agolden bell; a bell about the size of a large fist.

At the base of the wall to the eastern side, were rolling hills of rock;smooth rock with no vegetation. Some were capped with a dusting of snow.

The hills extended to encroach on a small village which sat right onthe edge of a bay. At the entrance to the bay, on opposite sides, weretwo pairs of icebergs.

Despite the light from an invisible source there was no discernibleactivity or audible noise from the village.

The only sounds were the inhalations of the soldiers on the wall asthey drew the frosty air into their bodies deeper and faster in

increased anticipation.

It was the duty and awesome responsibility of the first soldier to sightthe rising sun cross the horizon to give the warning. This he was todo by striking the bell suspended directly above his head. Thesoldiers at his side had to respond likewise and so the message

would spread along the wall in a resonance that would awaken thevillage inhabitants.

The inhabitants had to be warned. The warmth of the rising sunwould immediately melt the four icebergs. This would cause anincrease of the sea level in the bay and the village would be flooded.

It was inevitable. The sun would rise. The increased warmth wouldbring the flood to the village. They must be warned as soon as thisoccurs.

And the Watchers on the Wall had no choice. There they mustremain, watching in the unseen light for the greater light which wascertainly to come.

Who are the Watchers? Who are those who must be warned ?

Those who have a knowledge of the Sun, the Son of God, have theresponsibility to warn all those who sleep in dark ignorance of thetruth.

They stand on the wall in the light available to them, aware of thecoming of the son and needing to warn those who will flounder if notwarned in time.

Are you a Watcher or a Sleeper?

Where will you be when the Sun rises?

Will those who need to hear the benefit of the warning receive theknowledge in time to save then from the inevitable inundation tocome?
