OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE WASHINGTON FEDERATION OF REPUBLICAN WOMEN

Washington Federation of Republican Women Web Site: www.wfrw.org Fall 2016

As I come to the end of my four years as state

president for WFRW, I cannot help but re-

member the very first state board of directors

meeting I attended over 25 years ago as a guest of Evergreen

Republican Women’s Club (ERWC). Several of the members

urged me to go. I was so nervous meeting all the leaders and

legislators but my dear mentors just walked me through it.

Little did I know I would become state president. Wow!

Not only have ERWC and WFRW been my lifeline throughout

these years, but they have been my standard. I cannot begin to

describe or list all the things that I have learned—I “grew up”

in in WFRW!

It’s my privilege to call you all friends and mentors and it

has been an honor to serve you. I would like to mention a few

women that have gone the “extra mile” in my life politically

and personally both early on and most recently: Vangee Harri-

son, Rose Green, Noreen Thomas, Dorothy Zimmerman, Lois

Smith, Barb Chapman, Barbara Ann Stier, Brenda Petrick,

Evelyn Spencer, Frauna Hogland, Mary Jane Aurdal-Olson,

Olga Miller, Sally Taylor, Eileen Sobjack, Dee Drewry, Fredi

Simpson, Billye Brooks–Sebastiani, Amie Biesel, Georgene

Faries, Debbie Blodgett, Lois Glover, Patsy Excell, Lori Sote-

lo, Susan Hutchinson and Kim Wyman. Thank you ladies for

your leadership and your call to excellence!

And thank you to all the rest of you ladies for the kind

words and cheering me on throughout these last four years.

There’s no doubt in my mind that the next group of lead-

ers will serve WFRW with pride and excellence. We can look

forward to their leadership.

Thank you for your trust and support. You made my pres-

idency “fun” while facing some very challenging times. I look

forward to seeing you all at our biennial convention Nov 17-

19. Let’s join together in prayer for another RED WAVE to

sweep this country and state in November.

Happy Trails! Onward & Upward –don’t give up and

don’t give in - Infiltrate, Infiltrate, Infiltrate!

WSRP Convention—Pasco

WFRW women were all over the

place at the WSRP Convention

May 19-21! We certainly appreci-

ate Chairwoman Hutchinson. She

always had time for a little chat and

a friendly smile!

Shown below is Delegate Adina Hicks,

King County Chair Lori Sotelo and

former State Supreme Court Justice,

Richard

Sanders.

Silverdale-Seabeck RW Hosts Kris “Tanto” Paronto!

The ladies of Silverdale-

Seabeck Republican Wom-

en took on a big job when

they asked Benghazi hero,

Kris “Tanto” Paronto, to

speak at an event in

Bremerton on September

10th. They got busy and

solicited donors to help

defray the cost, then began

planning an outstanding

event.

By the time approximately 350

guests attended, all corners of

WA State were represented!

The book “13 Hours in Ben-

ghazi” and the video were availa-

ble to purchase., .

From his story and spontaneous

comments, it was clear a “stand

down” order was given—truly a

black mark on our gov-

ernment. We can only

hope and pray that Justice

will prevail. God bless

them!

North Whidbey RW: On June 9th, Club President Rita Drum

and her husband, Dr. Edward Drum, USN Ret., hosted several

events for Marty McClendon who is running for Lieutenant

Governor of our State. The day began with a “Meet & Greet”

at an Oak Harbor coffee shop, then lunch with our club mem-

bers

Jan Stump, Debi Freund, & Tanto!

The WFRW Nominating Committee is pleased to announce

the following 2017-2018 Slate of Officers:

President: Dee Drewry

1st Vice President: Colleen Wise

2nd Vice President: Gail Pappacostas

3rd Vice President: Georgene Faries (2nd term)

Membership Secretary: Billie Jean Liedahl

Recording Secretary: Sharon Hanek

It is wonderful that we have a slate that is a balance of return-

ing and new executive officers. This is an ideal situation and

will provide for continuity.

We are proud of these women and their willingness to serve

on your Washington Federation of Republican Women's

Executive Committee during 2017-2018 and are confident in

this team's ability to lead our Federation during the next term.

Keeping UP With WFRW Members!

Republican Presidential Candidate Donald J. Trump spent

a day in the Everett, Washington area on Tuesday, August 30,

and the Washington Federation of Republican Women members

were out in force to welcome our Republican Nominee

After flying in at Paine Field (Mukilteo) in the afternoon,

he began his whirlwind visit with a

fundraiser (hosted by

Hussein Khorram)

and wrapped up with

a full-blown rally

with at least 13,000

people in attendance

at Everett’s Xfinity

Arena. It’s estimated

that another 4,000

people were outside

which broke the Xfinity attendance record.

ERW’s President Georgene Faries was asked tolend her

expertise to assure the program went smoothly, and to recruit

volunteers to assist with the many jobs associated with it. She

did a great job setting up committees for voter registrations,

ushers, materials (handing out campaign placards), observers

and other behind-the-scenes

positions.

Georgene worked with

Mario Lotmore, Rep. Kirk

Pearson (shown above with

Georgene), Sen. Doug Erick-

son, Sen. Don Benton and rep-

resentatives from the Trump

Campaign.

.

Excitement and anticipation were tangible, palpable—so

was enthusiasm! It was truly an

awesome time to be part of

something so big! So promis-

ing! So positive!

“Be Prepared” is a great motto

and the organizers of the event

had certainly taken it to heart.

Every corner had a group of

men and women in blue, on

alert, watching for any untoward activity.

In this picture you can see a small gathering of protestors

who were quite peacefully ex-

pressing their objections.

The efficiency of those

who did the planning and those

who carried

out the plan is

to be com-

mended!

It was a great

place to see

WFRW mem-

bers as they arrived.

WFRW members from all over the state made

the trip to welcome our Republican nominee

for President of the United States.

Below is Kathleen Hartson, past

-president of South Kitsap RW.

WFRW was invited to host an

information table for advertising our

organization to interested women.

WFRW Rockin’ on the Trump Train!

Eileen Sobjack, former WFRW

President and current 3rd Vice Pres-

Notes From Clubs Around The State!

Camano Island RW: In celebration of Mother's Day, on May 5

we hosted a Mother-Daughter Tea at the Lost Lake Clubhouse

on Camano Island. Proceeds from this fundraiser benefited the

club's scholarship fund for local students. The program high-

lighted Masaye Nakagaws, Master of the Japanese Tea Ceremo-

ny and her assistants who pre-

sented "Chado - The Way of

Tea".

Special guests included Sena-

tor Barbara Bailey and Repre-

sentative Norma Smith who

are campaigning for re-

election this year.

Cascade RW: In May our speaker was Stephen Decatur from

ACT for America, the organization formed to educate Ameri-

cans about the threat of radical Islam. We had our annual food

bank collection for the Fall City Food Pantry.

June featured our annual auction fundraising event with special

guest Kemper Freeman. Our club filled a table for the KCGOP

Flag Day dinner.

Chelan/Douglas RW: We are growing! Now that some of the

snowbirds have come back, they have rejoined and we are excit-

ed to see them again!

CDRW will partner once again with our local radio station to

hold a candidate forum in July. Instead of holding an annual

dinner/fundraiser we figured since our ladies were busy working

on campaigns we’d hold a raffle. We raffled off a Tiffany dia-

mond necklace and the winner was our own past president

Shirley Schreiber.

Several of our ladies were delegates to the state convention and

one of our own, Ellie Ownbey, will be a guest at the National

Republican Convention. Time to take back our state and county

and we’re going to do everything we can to help!

Silverdale-Seabeck RW: We are sad to report

that we’re losing a very valued member of our

club and WFRW

After losing her husband this year, Brenda

Petrick is moving to Florida to be with her

family.

Our members honored her with a farewell party

at the home of Jan Stump. We are going to miss her SO much.

Thurston County RW: Recently we hosted a

very special guest, Thurston County Commis-

sioner Bud Blake!

Our guest speaker in May was Sharon Skousen

Krey of the Thomas Jefferson Center for Consti-

tution Restoration.

Snohomish County RW: In June, we again had a record turn-

out for our club to listen to Representative Mark Harmsworth

and his work he has accomplished in Olympia fighting the I405

toll and traffic debacle it has created.

Grant County RW: Bill Bryant, candidate

for governor, was our

honored speaker on

Monday, May 9 at the

Moses Lake Senior

Center. Our Senator,

Judy Warnick, also

attended.

Lakewood Republican Women: One of our summer speakers

was J.A. Jance, national NY Times Best selling mystery writer

who introduced her new book

"Clawback". She even admitted she

was a Republican!

The fundraising event was suc-

cessful and $2,500 was donated to

the JBLM Fisher House.

In May we gave our annual

Scholarship to Emily Hensler, a re-

markable student at Liberty Univer-

sity in Lynchburg Virginia who epit-

omizes a young Republican leader.

Dann Smith from the Washington

Policy Center spoke on their Young

Professional program and college

outreach. Legislator Melanie Stambaugh a former intern from

the WPC explained the impact the program had on her desire to

run and win a seat in the legislature.

Lewis County RW: Our mem-

bers are volunteering on several

campaigns. And our Club is help-

ing to pay expenses on our coun-

ty’s headquarters. We are also vol-

unteering to staff it.

Kim Wyman was a recent lunch-

eon guest speaker and, of course,

was a hit. Here she is with Peter

Abbarno, Centralia City Councilor

and former Exec. Director of the WSRP.

Congratulations to

Terresa Hobbs,

WFRW member and

former NWRWC

President, who was

named the Island

County Republican

Party Republican of

the year at the Con-

stitution Day dinner on September 17th. No one could deserve it

more!.

NFRW

The NFRW Campaign Committee has a Strike Force working to win in 2016! The Strike Force is made up of members of our Campaign commit-

tee who travel to targeted states to train Republican Women on Get Out the Vote strategies. In an effort to increase our voting block, NFRW joined

forces with the Republican National Committee to register Republican leaning women nationwide.

In 2015 Obama finally signed S 178 The Human Trafficking Justice for Victims bill that NFRW and our Legislative branch worked hard to pass.

This year our Legislative Committee partnered with Congressman Tim Murphy, PA to work on another important issue: H.R. 2646 Helping Fami-

lies in Mental Health Crisis.

The Leadership and Membership committees began monthly email newsletters to help members develop leadership skills and increase membership.

NFRW is near the end of the process to revamp our membership databases and websites to serve you better! The website will be offline the end of

RNC

The RNC has hired a record number of Field Staff to help in battleground states. This month alone, we added 392 new staffers and opened 98 new

offices for its nationwide field organization. We now have over 1000 field staffers, more than at any point in the 2012 cycle. New offices in battle-

ground states include Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.

The RNC entered this cycle more prepared than any party in history and has built a nationwide, permanent field program for the entire GOP ticket.

WASHINGTON STATE REPUBLICAN PARTY

Let me make this perfectly clear, the WSRP supports our Presidential nominee Donald Trump! He is the nominee that the voters selected by beating 16 others in a long, hard fought primary season, garnering the most votes in Republican

Primary history, and winning the WA GOP Presidential Primary with 74%.

He is focused on the issues that people care about most such as destroying our enemy ISIS, growing the U.S. economy and jobs, and appointing

Supreme Court justices who will uphold the constitution.

The Democrats’ candidate Hillary Clinton is totally unfit to be President. Her proven incompetence and dishonesty puts our nation’s security at

risk. She supports socialist healthcare, taxation, and government control of our lives. She has abused the power of public office by trading favors for

money with corrupt regimes. She will appoint Supreme Court justices who will take away our cherished rights.

The mission of the WSRP is to elect Republicans at every level of government. Let’s unite and win!

Winners’ Circle members enjoy an exclusive reception at the regularly scheduled WFRW Board of Directors meetings and the biennial Convention.

Clubs may join and entitle their President to participate in Winners’ Circle events. We also encourage all elected Republican officials to join the Winners’ Circle and

support the Republican women’s programs that enable WFRW to support the candidates. If you are a current member of Winners’ Circle but your name is not listed, please

contact Dee Drewry. If you are not a member of the Winners’ Circle and would like more information, please contact Debra Blodgett, 425-486-7684 or email [email protected]
