Prayer-Trusting God The following is a summary of a column in the St. Louis Review by Fr. John Mayo referring to St. Augustine's comments on why God does not seem to answer our prayers:

1. We may be asking for something that is bad. Just as children sometimes ask their parents for things that the parents know is not good for them, God also knows what is best for us.

2. Our personal disposition is not good for wanting what we are asking for. We may be asking based on pride, ego, envy, jealousy or some other vice.

3. We may ask but do not truly believe that God will act. We have tried other things that have not worked and may be developing a fallback plan in case God doesn't come through.

4. We may ask but are living in sin. Just as parents may ask their child to change before giving them what they ask for, God may be doing the same with us.

God hears and answers our prayers, but not always in the way we want or expect.

CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE: The “Christmas Giving Tree” is a tradition in our parish that has been going on for many, many years. The Tree is covered with paper ornaments that have a number and a short list of items that are needed for some child at Christmas time and is always displayed at our Thanksgiving Services. If you wish to take a name and purchase one or more of these items, please write your name and the number you take on the paper provided. Return the wrapped gift with the number attached by December 15th! Thank you for making a child’s Christmas special! Thank you to Rueben & Jayne Lawson for chairing this important ministry.

Instead of looking at the Ten Commandments as being restrictive and telling us what we can’t do, look at them as guides for living a joy-filled and peaceful life. Dynamic Catholic, Alive! – Universal Kingship Jesus’ messianic anointing—sealed by the descent of the Holy Spirit upon Him during His baptism in the Jordan--was no mere formality. It was an event that reached across all of time and space. Jesus wasn’t just anointed Priest, Prophet, and King of Israel. Rather, His Kingship is of the universe! And when we are anointed with Holy Chrism at our Baptism, we share in this exalted office as members of His Mystical Body. Do something special to mark this royal feast day. “Your Future Begins With Us” News from St. Joachim School

Mission Statement The mission of St. Joachim Catholic School is to assist the parents and parish community in the shared responsibility of providing an excellent religious and academic education that is Alive in Christ for the children of Washington County. Last week at our All School Mass on Tuesday we heard the story of Eleazar and it stuck with me. I've thought about Eleazar since this reading and his dedication to God throughout his entire life. He never stopped honoring God, loving God, and following God's commandments. Even when Eleazar was asked to tell a lie, he refused the easy road and remained faithful to God. How many times are we presented with the "easy way out"? Too many to count. Just because it's easy, doesn't mean it's right and I think that God reminds of this when we have rough days or struggle, it’s his way of reminding us to look to him no matter what. School Improvement The Visiting Team was impressed with our parish and our school and gave us several commendations from the result of our efforts for the School Improvement process. Now that we have set the ground work the school will now focus on the "Action Plan" for the next five years. The School Improvement Commendations can be found in this week’s bulletin. Community Thanksgiving Dinner Thank you so much for attending our school Community Thanksgiving Dinner it was a great turnout with a delicious meal! We love giving back to the community that does so much for us! Cereal Drive We are having a "Cereal Drive" the week of December 2nd- December 6th to benefit the Rural Parish Workers. Any donations can be dropped off at school any day this week. Christmas Concert We invite the Parish to attend our Christmas Concert on Friday, December 13th at 6:30 p.m. Early Bird School Raffle Drawing We will have an Early Bird Drawing for the School Raffle tickets for $500.00 at our Christmas Concert! Ask any St. Joachim student how to buy tickets!

THIS WEEKS READINGS- Dear friends, today serves as an example of the kind of kingship that belonged to the Lord Jesus. Instead of an earthly throne, his cross was his throne. Instead of an earthly crown of gold and jewels, his was a crown of thorns. As we all seek to imitate Christ in his sufferings so as to share in his resurrection, we ask God for strength. As you go forth to reflect on the word of God shared today, remember our love for you, as well as our pledge of prayerful support. Remember too our eagerness to share with you one day at the table of the Eucharist. Now go in peace. QUESTION OF THE WEEK- From whom do I need to seek forgiveness and whom do I need to forgive? Can I look at this as part of the road to salvation?

Individuals doing genealogy research should be directed to the main branch of the St. Louis County Library on Lindbergh Blvd. They have copies of all Archdiocesan records up to 1930. They also have the expertise needed to assist searches. Sacraments after 1930 are private documents and only the individuals themselves (or a parent or guardian of a minor child) may ask for copies.
