• Boyars (Noblemen) & officers staged coup.• UNSUCCESSFUL!

– Afterwards 289 Decembrists were tried; five were executed, 31 imprisoned, and the rest banished to Siberia. Their martyrdom inspired later generations of Russian dissidents.
