Thanks once again to the many of you who attend our Assemblies each Friday afternoon. Last week it was a privilege to be acknowledged by staff and students as part of ‘Celebrate Principal’s day’. Students sang songs, read poems, presented me with hand-made cards and a beautiful bunch of fresh flowers. It was a humbling experience to be acknowledged by our school community. In my message to students I reminded them that the reason teachers come to work each day is to inspire and motivate students to make the most of every learning opportunity presented to them. Congratulations to the amazing students who received awards last week, keep up the great work!
Transition
We are currently taking enrolments for our 2020 Foundation (prep) students. Our student leaders and Mr Hackett visited Central Kindergarten on Tuesday as part of our transition program, with other visits planned throughout the term. If you know of any families who are considering enrolling their child in Foundation at Warrnambool West Primary School in 2020, please invite them to make contact with the school as soon as possible. Our transition into Foundation starts next term, with a parent information session and visits to the school for next year’s Foundation children.
100 Days of School
It is hard to believe that tomorrow marks a huge milestone for our Foundation students who will celebrate 100 days of school! Students will be participating in range of activities around their 100 day theme as well as marking the occasion with a cake. All Foundation families are invited to come
along and help the students celebrate this special occasion in the Foundation Room from 9-11am.
Professional Learning
On Monday afternoon, all staff commenced CUST (Cultural Understanding and Safety Training). The purpose of the training is to increase understanding of Koorie culture, history and experience to ensure a strong foundation to support improved outcomes for Koorie learners across all areas of schooling. CUST is delivered by the Department’s Koorie Education personnel and we look forward to increasing our collective understanding of local Aboriginal history and perspectives.
Parent Opinion Survey
The Department of Education Parent Opinion Survey is presently underway and again will be completed online by a randomly generated sample of WWPS families. The feedback from these surveys, along with the Staff Survey and Year 4 – 12 Attitudes to School Survey, is very helpful as an annual pulse-check and to identify opportunities for future work. Thank you in advance if you have been selected to participate!
Work experience
It is wonderful to welcome back ex-student, Willem Douglas from Brauer College as part of the work experience program. Willem is working predominately with Mr Hackett in PE and science classes as well as spending time in classrooms. Welcome Willem!
Annie
Tomorrow all students will be attending Brauer College’s musical production of ‘Annie’ from 1-3 PM. If you have not returned your consent form please log onto COMPASS or return the paper consent form to school by tomorrow.
Mrs Clare Monk Principal
We are Responsible
It has been very rewarding walking around the school throughout the week see minimal rubbish in the yard. This means that our whole student body is being extremely responsible and ensuring that they place their rubbish in the bin and are not taking food wrappers outside. Thanks to all of you for ensuring that our school looks amazing!
Parent Teacher Interviews
Thank you to all families for their attendance at parent teacher interviews last week. Your attendance at interviews is just one of the many ways of fostering the importance of the home – school connection. If you were unable to attend your interview, please make contact through the office to meet with your child’s classroom teacher to make another time.
Uniform
It was pleasing to see a majority of our students arrive at school each day decked out in full school uniform. We will continue to make our expectations around uniform very clear to students, especially when on excursions and representing WWPS. A friendly reminder that our pants are navy and NOT black and these can be purchased from department stores such as Target and Best and Less quite cheaply. The wearing of coloured long sleeve ‘T’s is not part of our approved uniform. Our new zip jackets have arrived and can be purchased at the office for $35. The jackets offer an alternative to the wearing of polo fleece jumpers. We encourage any families who are struggling to support their child in meeting these expectations to contact us for assistance.

Teamwork
This week in Positive Ed, the students have been learning about teamwork. In the F- 2 classes, the students
chose a person who is good at working in a team. They recognised what these people do that makes them a
good team member.
